I can't believe I paid a hundred dollars
for this okay we got the fan and of
course the liquid metal just all over
the board and over here I think is what
the actual problem is they are trying to
fix at some point the HDMI port let's
see the bottom side see how bad that is
that's not too bad there's even liquid
metal on this the front of this piece
right here this video is sponsored by
bw100 more on them in a minute all right
let's make sure we have all the parts we
need here got the top plate and this top
metal piece a little bent there not too
bad though of course liquid metal just
kind of splattered all over a destroyed
ribbon cable that might actually be
usable
I mean things are pretty dirty but looks
like everything's in decent condition at
least let's plug in this power supply
and see if it's putting out the voltage
we need and Scotty says it's putting out
12 volts that's exactly what we need so
I'm going to get this thing cleaned up
enough to get the motherboard installed
before I do the HDMI fix and let's see
if this thing will even start up so the
good news is that a little bit of the
liquid metal got over here we got a lot
to clean up on this plate but there's
not a bunch over here and it didn't get
into the power supply one of the things
that's going to take the longest for
this PS5 is just cleaning up all this
excess liquid metal that's all over the
board so that's what I'm going to do
right now you know as much of this
cleaned up as I can and then we need to
install new liquid metal I need to get
it off of all of these surfaces because
if there's liquid metal just sitting
around in here it can drop onto the
board and cause a short circuit and then
our PS5 would not work okay we have this
all cleaned up there's no loose liquid
metal on this bottom part the power
supply as far as we know is good now we
need to clean up this board we've got to
get all the liquid metal off of
everything other than right here on the
APU
[Music]
now we have this board cleaned there's a
couple problems I found on the underside
though we're missing a couple components
right there
and we're missing one component right
there so before we try and power this on
we got to replace those so let's get
that done and then we'll try and power
it on and see if it will even power on
if it does then we'll get this HDMI
system working so I'm going to be using
this board from a PS5 that was ran over
that I was never able to fix but luckily
for me it's got exactly the parts I need
I'm going to take this part from this
board and this part from this board and
place it onto the board we're trying to
fix
thank you
now that we have this capacitor this
capacitor and these two capacitors down
here are placed we can fit this into the
PS5 and see if it's going to start up
and if it does then we'll get to fixing
this whole HDMI mess first I'm going to
install the perfect amount of liquid
metal we just need a little bit on there
right now just to kind of get us started
then I'm just going to come in and rub
that in really good
okay and there we go now we'll add quite
a bit more okay and that's how much we
need for now once we see whether this
thing's going to work or not we can come
in and out a little bit more but the
more we have on here the Messier it can
potentially get so I just want to have
just enough on to test it okay I'm
plugging it in hopefully nothing
explodes
okay good so far but doesn't have any
power I used to never Buy electronics
cleaner because it seemed like no matter
which brand I bought it never really did
what it said it was gonna do that's all
changed now thanks to bw100 bw100 is
safe for All Electronics it's
non-flammable and it evaporates super
quickly and even better it's also safe
for Plastics we all know a lot of
electronics companies have a problem
with their analog sticks a lot of times
Gunk just gets built up in them and that
makes them drift unless those analog
sticks are completely worn out bw100
works great to get them working again
I've used it on PS5 dual sense
controllers joy-cons PS4 controllers and
Xbox controllers but it's also great for
things like VR controllers and drone
controllers but I don't just use it for
controllers you can also use it for
motherboards that have any sort of dust
or dirt or even liquid damage corrosion
it's suitable for All Electronics from
cars all the way to game consoles and
controllers I highly recommend bw100 for
all of your electronics cleaning needs
I'll put a link right in the description
it'll take you right to it have any
power
uh no it doesn't no power to the fan
just no power anywhere so let's do a
couple checks real quick and see where
we're getting power and where we're not
getting power
see if we have power in 12 volts in I
mean that's good news
so the board seems to have power where
it needs to have it there's two things
I'm going to try one is I'm gonna try
plugging in a different power board that
has a power button that I know is good
and then also I'm going to try another
ribbon cable right here because I think
this can be a problem as well but
ultimately we may need to replace this
HDMI port since this one's been torn off
and there could be other faulty
components over here so let's get all
that done and see if any of that works
and as I look at this a little bit
closer we've got a missing resistor
right here the good news is that I can
steal it from a donor board the bad news
is the more I look at this board the
more I find components that are missing
I hope there's not a whole bunch of
others I don't see any but there's so
many that are just so tiny it's almost
impossible to check them all so so I'm
going to get this resistor installed and
then we'll try this all again
[Music]

[Music]
and now let's plug this cable back in
plug the power cable back in
now do we get anything at all
ah no
okay
so let's try a new power button
or a different power button
and nothing bummer and now I'm going to
plug another USB board in here
I'm not sure if that's going to do
anything for me but this ribbon cable is
not in good condition so
let's just try it it's an easy thing to
just plug in real quick and see what
happens
okay
now that's installed I'm going to unplug
it let it kind of reset or let the
capacitors drain down
okay come on
still nothing
okay I think what we need to do next is
replace this HDMI port and make sure the
HDMI system is in good condition
and we can try it all again and here we
are under the microscope and you can see
each of these little brown pads that
means that the entire circuit board has
been ripped away from that area which
means once we install the new Port onto
this board we're gonna have to run
little traces onto each one of these
that are ripped off we don't have to run
traces to these ones that are just for
ground anyway but we do have to run
traces to all these ones that connect to
the board so let's get this board
installed and then the fun begins
what I need to do now is go through and
scrape away some of the solder mask the
solder mask is this green material that
covers over the actual copper Trace
and I need to scrape that away so I can
connect a wire to it
and actually now that I think about it
this one's just fine I don't need to do
that over here I need to do that on
these ones where the pad has been torn
away from the board like this one right
here
so we'll scrape away the copper or the
solder mask from this one
just like this
there we go
once we get that scraped away we can see
some of the copper so once that's done
on all these pins then I'll come through
and add a little bit of gel that's
called solder flux that helps the solder
flow and then I will come through and
solder a wire to this part of the board
and then I'll solder the same wire on
the other end to the corresponding pin I
have to do that with each of these pins
so we'll show how to do this first one
and then the rest of these I'll probably
do off camera and then once that's done
then we can test it again
and we have each of these circuit traces
fixed we got jumper wires installed and
all the ones that need them they're all
soldered on correctly it doesn't look
great but they're all solid and this
should at least fix the HDMI section of
this board while I was doing this repair
I noticed another problem all of these
little black arrows indicate a missing
component so as I was looking at this
board the more I looked the more things
I found missing we've got one two three
and I think there's another one
somewhere four right here so those are
the four that I've noticed so far I'm
gonna get these components replaced
using components from our donor board
hopefully there's not any more but on
this board the more I fix the more I
find that needs to be fixed so hopefully
after this we'll be done fixing and if
we're lucky it might power on
[Music]
foreign
[Music]
so I've got all those components
replaced I've checked for voltages where
there should be I don't see any other
problems on this board so let's try to
power it on and see if it'll work here
we go are you ready that was like hours
worth of work just the HDMI port was
probably at least an hour so I really
hope this works for a hundred dollars
did we fix it
oh no
bummer well the good thing is we know we
have a good power supply that alone is
worth more than a hundred dollars so I
definitely didn't lose money I really
was hoping to fix this one but
unfortunately this one is just not
fixable if you want to see me try and
fix a PS5 that was run over I'll put a
link to that up on your screen now so
you can come hang out with me over there
and see if I can fix that one thank you
again to bw100 for sponsoring this video
if you want to try it out I'll leave a
link right in the description that'll
take you right to it thanks again for
watching today and I hope you have a
good one
