in this video we are going to tell you
about six common problems that kindle
paperwhite users face and how you can
fix them in no time
we'll also give you some great expert
tips as a bonus
so keep watching
[Music]
the first problem that many users report
is that sometimes a ghost image of a
previous page remains on the screen even
after forwarding the page
if this happens with you you should
refresh your screen
to do this without exiting your book tap
around the top of your screen
the toolbar will now get displayed
now tap anywhere on the screen
the screen will turn black for a second
as it refreshes and the toolbar will
disappear
this will fix the ghost image problem
the second problem is not being able to
automatically connect to wi-fi
although normally your paperwide will
scan for available networks and connect
automatically sometimes it may require
you to do so manually
to do this you just have to tap menu and
then settings
you will see a list of available
networks
if the one that you want to connect to
is in that list just tap that and you're
done
but if it isn't tap on other
you'll see a dialog box called enter
wi-fi network
in that dialog box type the name of the
network and the password
now tap on advance
enter all the information that it asks
you to such as the ip address security
type and connection type
you can move through the various screens
using the up or down arrow
when you've filled all the required
information tap connect and you'll join
the network
here's our first bonus tip for you
if you're able to connect the paperwhite
to your home wi-fi but can't connect it
with amazon your connection needs to be
re-established
to do this tap on menu then settings
wi-fi networks and select the network
with a tick mark next to it
a dialog box will now appear that says
forget network
tap it then reselect your desired
network and enter your password now you
should be able to connect to amazon
the third common problem reported by
users is that the battery of your
paperwhite discharges really quickly
if you read for half an hour every day
on an average your battery should easily
last between one to two weeks
if it runs down faster than that this
may be happening because of unindexed
content
usually when you add any new content to
your kindle paperwide the material gets
indexed
this lets you search terms or words
either within one book or throughout all
the content on your device
but occasionally a new book doesn't
index properly
this causes your device to constantly
try and index it and makes the battery
run down
if this is the problem follow these
steps
tap on the search icon on the home
screen
ensure that all text is being displayed
on the right side of the search box
in the search box type something unusual
or uncommon
even a series of random letters would do
tap on the arrow next to it to start the
search
now you have to look for unindexed items
to do so go to the very bottom of the
list on the results screen after the
search results if you see any indexed
item there press and hold down on that
now select delete from the menu that
you'll see
this should remove the unindexed item
if you had acquired this particular
content from amazon you'll be able to
download it again from the cloud
if it was acquired from other sources
always make sure to have it backed up
amazon samples can be redownloaded from
the amazon page of the book
so if you like to resample your content
make note of it before you delete it
we would advise you to keep tracking how
much time it takes for the battery to
drain out
wait for a couple of days to see if the
battery draining problem has been solved
if you find out that it has you can
re-download the unindexed item from the
cloud sideload it from a computer or
resample it from amazon
another expert tip is that if you need
to put more than one unindexed item back
on your kindle add them only one by one
always let the first one finish getting
indexed before you add the next one
by doing this you'll be able to single
out the particular book that causes the
problem by not getting properly indexed
the fourth problem is that your kindle
paperwhite does not sync among your
devices
the whispersync feature of amazon lets
you move effortlessly between reading on
the paperwhite to reading on a computer
or smartphone
along with this whispers sync for voice
also lets you sync between the
paper-wide and audible versions of any
book
you can listen to the audio versions on
any audio device using the audible app
when you open any ebook on a different
device you'll be given the option of
moving to the furthest page you've read
if it does not happen you should check
these two things
first check the amazon server connection
whispersync only works if your device is
connected to the amazon servers
make sure that both your paperwhite and
the other device have 3g or wi-fi
connectivity when you're syncing them
secondly check this synchronization
setting
if you've connected your devices to
amazon servers and the synchronization
still doesn't work check the
synchronization settings
log into your amazon account and go to
manage your kindle page
on the left side you will see a link
called manage your devices
click that go to the end of that page
and check if the synchronization option
is on
if it isn't simply turn it on
the fifth problem is the home screen of
your kindle paperwhite not displaying
items in the correct order
you can choose to display the items on
home screen sorted according to title
author recent or collections
sometimes it doesn't display the items
in the correct order
this can be easily fixed
tap menu from your home screen
tap on the sync and check for items
option
it should be the number 5 option on the
drop down list and the fourth option on
the second generation paperwhite
after doing this the home screen will
display all items in the correct order
let's give you one more expert tip
before we move on to our last problem
for today
to avoid small problems here and there
always make sure the clock of your
kindle is showing the correct time
you can also choose the option to update
your clock automatically on the kindle
paperwhite 3g
the sixth and the last problem for this
video is that your device fails to
recognize your password
if the password that you chose isn't
unlocking the device you should try
doing the basic things first like make
sure you enter the correct password or
try entering variations of your password
because it's possible that you mistyped
the letter when you were setting up your
password
if you own multiple kindle devices make
sure that you're entering the password
on the correct device
it'll be great for you if any of these
steps unlock your device because
resetting the password is a pretty
serious deal
it will wipe off all the content from
your device and also be registered from
amazon
you will have to reinstall all of your
material
we hope it doesn't come to this but if
there's no other option left but to
reset your password type one three times
then two three times in seven three
times that is one one one two two two
and seven seven seven in place of the
password and tap on ok
this will wipe your kindle clean
now you'll have to register your device
with amazon again and download all the
content again from the amazon archive
that's it for this video
