this is the lock-picking lawyer and what
i have for you today is a bail catalyst
300 bike lock this is a lock that you
would find on the shelves at several
major American retailers including
stores like Target and Walmart it
advertises a 12 millimeter hardened
steel shackle a steel tube lock body and
a 5 pin dimple core if we look at the
packaging we can see that Bell
advertises a four out of five security
rating after independent laboratory
testing that makes this a quote
high-security lock let's open this up
and take a closer look at the locking
mechanism okay we can see it has a
relatively thin lock body and also you
can see the locking lug which holds the
shackle closed and that's also a bit on
the thin side I'd imagine this lock
would probably be a pretty good
candidate for the screw spreader and we
may do that in a future video but let's
lock this back up because what we're
going to do today is see what it takes
to pick into this lock let's get a Z bar
in there for tension and a right side
offset dimple pic okay number one little
click there click out of two three is
binding tightly got a click there and a
little bit of movement on the core click
out of four and five click there and we
just got this open okay as you could see
that was not a terribly difficult lock
to pick open it's actually a bit on the
disappointing side because in recent
years we've definitely seen a trend
toward harder to pick bike locks but
this Bell catalyst 300 bucks the trend
with a really cheap really easy to pick
5 pin dimple core so definitely a
disappointment
that's all I have for you today on this
Bell catalyst 300 by clock if you do
have any questions or comments about it
please put them below if you like this
video and would like to see more like it
