hey what's up welcome back to the lab -
Diana and you're watching the game just
kidding um alright so what we're gonna
do today is we're going to create a beat
from scratch on FL Studio so if you guys
are new to the channel I encourage you
to subscribe turn on that notification
bow and let's get a thumbs up going just
like go ahead and just tap that like
button and I'd really appreciate that so
right now where you are on FL Studio 20
and this is a trial version because like
I've said in the past I used to make
beats using Apple studio and then I got
a new computer and then I just did not
buy ethyl study again because I was just
like you know what we're gonna take a
break from music and then I started
focusing on other things and I was just
like alright we're back at it again so
then right now I'm trying out fo so do
you again to see how I feel about it
because it is a big investment and then
I'm gonna try out Pro Tools and that's
one thing that I highly recommend
Ableton kind of looks confusing to me
looks way too smart for me so I highly
encourage you to check out the trial
versions of these DAWs that's what they
call them because like I said it's a
heavy investment and you don't want to
purchase something that's like $200 drop
three hundred dollars and then you're
not really feeling it so you just have
to invest that money again so just let's
see what we can do with just a trial
version of episodio
it is my understanding that while you
can say projects you're not you can't
necessarily open them again and start
over like you know continue so it's just
like it's kind of like if you're old to
like me when I first got my PlayStation
2 we didn't have a memory card so we
would play grand theft auto 3 and then
we would pause the video game and then
turn the TV off
and then go to school and then come back
and finish playing because we didn't
have a memory card for like the first
weeks we had the PlayStation 2 so it's
kind of the same thing so it's just like
whatever you need to do you probably
have to get out of the way as quickly as
possible and then from there you can
actually jump on like you can save it
you serve as an mp3 file or a WAV I
believe so that's actually pretty cool
but you just wants you to X out of it
you can come back to the same project so
keep that in mind so right now we're
gonna make it a simple hip-hop beat
because like I've said in the past I'll
say it again I'm old school baby and I'm
not a really huge fan of track so we're
gonna go old-school
so right now we
you're going to go through the browser
hit up the packs um we got the metronome
we are hitting a 100 let's do 100 beats
per minute and turn on that metronome
how's that sound I think that's fine
whatever all right a hundred and eleven
that's a hundred and ten that's good all
right so now let's go to the packs and I
did a seven-day beat making challenge
and they said the first thing to start
off with is your high hats so let's
start off with the high hats that the
cymbals dude and this is all included
with the trouser so I think it's pretty
cool well let's see alien I think I'm
feeling this one so where's my channel
right so we're gonna put on channel rack
and then this is where you start like
the basis of your beats so we're gonna
start with that chroma one and we're
going to drag that over here and we're
just gonna add that to the bottom can we
places yes we did boom so we fill these
out we're gonna do the pattern alright
so so far so good
that's what we have they say to start
off with the snare now the funny thing
is I don't know what I want my beat to
sound like so that goes that starts to
create a process right now so let's
think hold on what am i alright so um we
picked out a hi-hat but I think I'm
gonna honestly start with my what's it
called okay seriously there's like my
name is are fighting outside I can focus
yes this guy just literally like talking
on the phone like cursing somebody out
just walking up and down the shape I do
it's Christmas morning Merry Christmas
by the way so I think I'm starving for
the melody I think I'm not sure let's
see
[Music]
all right so that's good so far so far
so good
so we can shut this down and it's going
to it's going to our kicks so typical
808 that's not bad
alright so as far as percussion goes as
far as snares ago I actually because
like I said old school I'm not gonna
stop singing that
I prefer instead of a snare I prefer a
clap so it's fine a dope clap there we
go I'm gonna keep that and then let's
see let's do a kick
how's this kick sound not like that at
all
mmm-hmm didn't like that let's go back
to kicks let's do that all right so
we're collapse it a little too fast for
me all right all right and you can stop
now
all right so one thing is just your
standard hip-hop beat in the backward so
anyway like I think beatboxing is like
the best way to come up with beats by
the way I'm pretty sure I'm not
inventing the wheel right now I'm pretty
sure everyone says the same thing so let
start with so this is super nice sounds
all right so this is super fast for me
like rapid um drums where we go
click this sounds way better let's see
no all right let's undo this how do you
undo undo all right so after some
meticulous playing and through
scratching the surface and just
scratching the surface scratching the
project you starting all over again I
think I finally came up with a simple
melody I'm at 95 beats per minute and
I'll be honest with you it really makes
it a lot simpler when you have your
meeting keyboard and you just like cuz
right now I'm just using my mouse and
like my head and like I said haven't
done this in a while I'm not the most
musically talented if I'm being honest
but it's something that I do truly enjoy
doing and like once I get it right like
you know so my beats are actually pretty
cool but at the end of the day like I
said um it's so much simpler when you
have your MIDI keyboard and you it's
just like a plate versus actually what
you think Cleopas about and then like
rearranging so like right now all I have
is like everything in the key of C and
this is what I have so far already
I play dude that's all I have right now
that's all I have well that shit's still
going on okay I'll play that pattern
okay so did you guys just hear that
where was I
what did I just look into that purse
all right so fun fact this is the sample
kit that Soulja Boy used to make Soulja
Boy tell them so crank that Superman
whatever alright so I'm starting with
the keys a little bit not my best work I
can honestly say this is not the best
I've ever had I will probably shave the
big two like Oakland excuse me waive my
previous beats and you'll be like okay
there is a difference but like I said
this is just with the trial version this
is just messing around stuff
like I got like I said like there's a
lot to work with
but ultimately the lesson for today was
you really do need to have your whole
studio set up with like all the little
features because from what we have just
like the root of the product which is
just FL Studio 20 the trial version I
was able to make a B in my super
satisfied with it not really because if
you can't play with it like you know the
pads make such a difference and the
keyboard makes such a difference such a
huge difference and then loops and packs
like right now as far as like loops and
packs and sound kits the only thing I
have is what came with FL Studio 20
I have a couple that I have downloaded
but like I said for the sake of the
video I just want to start and create
and use with what we just have I didn't
even check into the plugins because
usually there are plugins that you can
use yeah usually you have like Alma
sphere and a couple other good ones but
I don't even check into that I don't
think they're available with just a
trial version you probably have to add
them on because I do believe they're
add-ons man shoulda kept my office to
you but I gotta take my laptop works
honestly but I'm should I play a beat
for you guys real quick and then that's
gonna be the end of the video just to
let you guys know yeah there is a lot
you can do with this I think that if I
did have like my little setup I would
have been a little easier for me to just
come up with a melody and stuff but I'm
so I'm proud of it you know I took a
while it's been like an hour or
something but yeah here we go like that
took so long because it's just like like
I said I'm just using the mouse like I'm
not like you know playing mm mm-hmm
that's the thing like it takes a
creative process of it like obviously if
you know what you're doing just be like
okay I want to be Sally's tu-tu-tu-tu-tu
and I want it to be in this key in this
pitch and all that good stuff but the
thing is like with me I'm just like
playing things out like I'm just like I
play music by ear so whatever I'm
feeling so I'm just like Dean Dean Dean
Dean Dean Dean Dean Dean me so you can't
do that with just like your mouse like I
can't so but I mean at the other day the
beat wasn't too bad you guys let me know
what you think in the comment section I
truly appreciate it and this could be it
for this video
forget to like comment subscribe all
that good stuff I was talking about and
I was seeing the next video and like I
said don't sleep on me later
