son of a mario kart double dash
the only kart racer where one player can
drive and the other can throw things at
the other races it also unsurprisingly
features some pretty interesting
glitches otherwise why would I even be
talking about it so why don't we kick
things off with our very first glitch
and this takes place in the mushroom
bridge and it also involves lakitu now
we can get lakitu to behave in some
pretty unusual ways and I'll show you
exactly what I mean if we drag up the
side of the bridge like this so the cut
is kind of hanging off the edge which
can be pretty tricky in itself we can
actually get lakitu to either disappear
or we can get it in a way where we
actually push lakitu up the track
backwards you can kind of see how he's
moving into the distance as if you said
something that he didn't agree with what
you'll find is he usually stops about
midway on the bridge and then you can
just drive up to him and meet halfway
and that returns things back to normal
we can also do this on the other side of
the bridge and push lakitu through the
wall which is always always a good time
one of the most annoying Mario Kart
items in all history I think we can all
agree is the blue spiny shell but what
if I told you we could hide from the
blue spiny shell I know it sounds
ridiculous but it's something we can
actually do to try this glitch out we
need to head to Yoshi circuit preferably
in a versus mode where one of you can
actually drive into this tunnel and the
other one needs a spiny shell obviously
naturally the player in the tunnel needs
to be in first position for this to
really work if the player with a spiny
shell now fires it off with the other
player inside the tunnel the spiny shell
will not actually be able to find the
other player and will keep shooting up
and down the track trying to find them
that right there is one hilariously
confused spiny shell but if the player
that the spiny shell is trying to find
actually leaves the tunnel the spiny
shell will find it and it will kill you
you can do the exact same glitch in
mushroom bridge if one player is
stationed on top of the bridge like so
and the other player has the blue spiny
shell again we have to make sure the
play on top of the bridge is in first
place so the spiny shell actually has
something to look for and then the other
players just fire it off wherever they
want and now again the spiny shell will
be looking for the player in first place
but it won't be able to find them and
will keep going up and down the track
looking there it goes there it goes
there it goes again
and the moment the play who threw the
spiny shell ends his first place you
better believe that blue shells
come avoid while we're still here in
mushroom bridge there's another glitch
we can do which involves this green pipe
for this glitch we need to drive two
carts into the pipe at the same time and
what will happen is they'll bump each
other in the air and one will get
knocked backwards and land back inside
the green pipe you're now able to drive
around inside the green pipe which looks
very glitchy but also there's a small
area we can drive around here which is
surrounded by invisible walls it's not
the craziest glitch in the world but
it's definitely not right here's
something kind of dumb in dry dry desert
on the final lap if you've finished the
race way off to the right just to the
side of the finish line one of two
things will happen either you'll cross
the finish line in such a way that the
game has trouble steering you back onto
the track so it will bump you into walls
until it eventually places you where you
need to be or you'll finish the race and
fall into the quicksand at the same time
so lakitu has to rescue you I guess
either way the game is just very
confused here's a pretty useful glitch
you can do involving Thunderbolts and
fake item boxes if you hit a fake item
box at the same time a Thunder ball is
used instead of shrinking like you
normally would for some reason the
action is now cancelled out and you're
able to just carry on driving as if the
Thunderbolt was never used obviously you
can see how this would be pretty useful
when somebody thinks they have the upper
hand but you just cancel them out and
carry on as normal
there's another glitch we can do in
battle modes also involving the fake
item box for this glitch you need to be
in balloon battle and you can choose any
arena but you have to have three players
then have a player with one balloon left
be right next to an item box and then
damage that player so they get knocked
on to where the item box is when a
player loses all their balloons whilst
inside an item box they'll disappear but
the item box will keep respawning in the
overall effect being the item box keeps
popping in and then popping out and
popping in and then popping out it's
just fun for everybody another glitch we
can do in balloon battle mode is head to
pipe Plaza and then place one player
just outside one of these pipes if they
then take damage from let's say a green
shell and get knocked into the pipe they
won't actually lose any of their
balloons it's possible that going
through the pipe kind of cancels out the
animation of losing a balloon I have no
idea it's a very unusual glitch let's
head to Bowser's Castle now and there's
a couple of glitches we can do with
these swaps to pull this glitch off
you're going to need two players and one
of them
has to have a spiny shell the other
player simply has to drive underneath
the thwomp now the play with a spiny
shell needs to fire it off just before
the player underneath the thwomp is
about to be squashed and if you time
this just right the player that got
squashed by the form Piz now upside down
and will stay upside-down for the
remainder of the race and the only way
to fix this is to use a thunderbolt to
shrink them so they can drive away the
other glitch you can do with a UMP is
exactly the same only the timing changes
the player underneath the thwomp has to
be hit by the blue shell and the form at
the same time and if you time it
correctly what will happen is you're
free to drive around as normal but your
character will be permanently chewing
the damage animation so your character
will be driving around flailing their
arms while the person at the back edge
is hanging on for dear life let's be
honest toad this hasn't been a good day
for you has it there's a random glitch
you can do with a Chain Chomp in Mario
circuit
now usually chain chomps kind of reel
back and then attack you as you drive by
and I'm not entirely sure of the
specifics of this glitch or how it
happens but I drove into it in a strange
way and it somehow made the Chain Chomp
get locked in this animation whereas
kind of do well it was doing this yeah I
know right
pretty weird like who do decided he'd
tell me off for teasing the Chain Chomp
I decided he needed to be eaten let's
head to Rainbow Road now for two random
glitches one of which you'll need the
parade cart and what you do is you drive
to this section of the track and you
kind of edge your way up and then let
off the accelerator at just the right
point and you'll actually fall through
the track and kind of get stuck it's
really weird I don't know about you but
I kind of enjoyed us watching these
characters flail around the second
glitch in Rainbow Road takes place just
after the starting line and involves
getting hit off this edge at a very
specific way if you get knocked over the
edge of this boost ramp in just the
right way by a green shell let's say
what will happen is lakitu decides to
take the day off and you'll fall for
maybe a good 15 seconds I guess before
he realizes oh yeah I have a job to do
maybe I should stop you falling to your
death this is the kind of glitch that
the casual play would probably never
encounter but I'm thinking somebody at
Nintendo forgot to program a little
space that said hey Lakha do you need to
save me I think to round this episode
off we should talk about some glitches
that are actually useful in this game
and one of them being a glitchy shortcut
in waluigi stadium when you
this part of the course with all the
Piranha Plants coming out of the sides
what you need to do is start charging up
a mini turbo to the point where you can
release it and bump into this fence and
if you get enough height you can
actually enter a void area where lakitu
will pick you up and place you at the
boost ramp just before the finish line
it's not a gigantic skip but it does
skip this portion of the track now
getting this glitch to happen is going
to take a good couple of tries and some
practice you need to hit this fence at
just the right speed to get enough
height to hit the void but honestly if
you keep practicing what you've seen on
screen here you'll be able to get this
every time and it looks really cool when
you do it too and the other major skip
in the game takes place in Bowser's
Castle and for this one you'll need to
be in first place with a blue spiny
shell all you have to do for this one is
fire off the spiny shell as you cross
the finish line to enter your second or
third lap and what will happen is the
spiny shell will actually knock you up
to a void out area that's about midway
in the track the game's getting a bit
confused and thinks you fell off this
part of the track when really you're
coming from underneath it and because
you're doing this as you're crossing the
finish line to enter your second or
third lap the game actually thinks
you've completed that part of the course
and just lets you carry on this is a
really simple skip that just requires
the spiny shell and good placement but
that about wraps it up for this episode
and some cool glitches you can try out
in Mario Kart Double Dash and if you
