Crossy Road was updated with new characters and a new area.
This is known as “The Candy update”. 🍬
The Chocolate Chicken is the first of 11 characters in this new area.
Hipster Whale seems to be going with the sugar theme in recent days, 🐳
as Crossy Road Castle was just updated with the Candy Cafe Tower.
Perhaps this is cross promotion, 🤔
but I didn't even see any mention of it here,
or perhaps it's just a nice way to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and other year end holidays.
Actually, I wasn't even alerted of this update.
I wasn't looking for it.
While flipping through apps on my Apple TV, 📺
I noticed a blue dot next to the app title.
That's when I knew it was time to go to work.
If you're playing Crossy Road to perfection, how do you unlock the new characters?
That's what this video is about.
It's also a first-look at these new characters.
First up is the Chocolate Chicken. 🍫
Although, it's spelled C-H-O-C.
This is essentially your standard chicken character,
except that it leaves a chocolatey mess as a trail.
This free character is also a way to get a look at the new level.
It has a candy-coated look.
Ingredients may include, sugar, chocolate, and high-fructose corn syrup.
It's also very pink.
But in general, it's also very standard.
You have your logs, your lilypads, and your birds.
So if you're farming for coins, this level can get that job done.
That's basically how you can unlock the bulk of the characters.
Coins are spent in the prize machine.
If you already have all of the other characters unlocked,
this task is even more difficult.
It's 100 coins for a standard spin.
If that fails and turns up a duplicate character,
it's 200 coins for a somewhat improved chance.
20% or even 40% is still not great odds, so expect a lot of repetition.
I could have spent 99¢ each to straight up unlock most of the new characters,
but no. I grinded through this.
So let's start with the next character — Alice.
As you can see, I started this adventure with thousands of coins.
That didn't last long, but it was a nice jump-start to unlocking many of the new characters.
Anyway, she's obviously based on Alice In Wonderland.
If she eats something, she gets big.
If she drinks something, she gets small.
She's a nice character. 🥰
It's amazing how they can make a character that looks so cute by only using cubes.
Now, the audience for Photics.TV is predominately male,
but to the other 18.7% out there, to the ladies,
does this appeal to you?
What do you think when you see such a girly looking level?
While playing this level, I kept thinking about the trailer for the new Matrix movie.
The song “White Rabbit” from Jefferson Airplane was stuck in my head. 🤪
The next character is the Chocolatier.
He's a chef looking character, with a snack on a stick,
that he dips into chocolate.
He too leaves a chocolatey mess as he runs through the level.
There's not much to this character.
At least, it wasn't very special to me.
However, if your day job or hobby is to make chocolates,
then you might have a special affinity to the chocolatier.
Next up is the Jelly Bear, but we'll come back to that character,
as this character does have special significance in this game.
So, that means Hansel and Gretel are next.
These two are also based on a classic story.
These two are also together at the start, but it's very hard to keep both alive.
Fortunately, you only need the main one going to keep playing.
I think the lead one is Gretel.
I think that's the girl's name.
It also looks like breadcrumbs are left on the ground as a trail to get back home.
They don't make it in this story.
Gretel gets flattened by a car made of pastry.
The sixth character on this list is the Soda Jerk.
He looks like a waiter from a 1950s diner.
Much like to the chocolatier, I didn't see much to this character.
Aside from the sounds of soda cans opening, this is a pretty standard character.
And unlike the Chocolatier, the Soda Jerk isn't really a common profession these days.
Although, I suppose a Barista at Starbucks is the modern equivalent. 🤷🏻♂️
With all the sugar in this new area, the seventh character is a welcomed addition.
It's the Tooth Fairy. 🧚🏿♀️
She serves as a friendly reminder to brush your teeth, 🦷🪥
especially after consuming all of these sugary treats.
Her notable ability is flight.
Well, it's more like hovering just off the ground.
There's not much here, except some random twinkly noises.
But hey, maybe this game might inspire people to be dentists. 👩🏼⚕️
A lot of these new characters are essentially professions.
Although, does the eighth character on this list qualify as a profession?
I think the Good Witch is another fantasy reference,
probably from the Wizard of Oz.
She's a cutesy character, as she makes playful girly sounds.
Also, she rides a broom to move around. 🧹
The ninth character, the Gingerbread Man,
was already unlocked before I started playing the new level.
It looks like they moved him over to this new level.
He's annoying, so we'll skip right past this part.
Although, it's the same if not worse with the “Too Much Candy” character.
This character, reminiscent of Willy Wonka, is a life parable.
Don't fall into a river of chocolate and don't eat too much candy.
However, going back to the Jelly Bear,
eating appears to be the secret to unlocking the 11th character in the Candy area.
On the Jelly Bear level, small colored cubes randomly appear on the ground.
I figure they're gummy bears. 🐻
Every time one of these little cubes is collected, a new Jelly Bear will appear.
This is similar to the Easter Bunny, as mentioned in the Top Ten Crossy Road characters video.
I don't know the exact technique required to unlock the 11th character with the Jelly Bear.
Perhaps it's eating 80 candies, or perhaps it's having four jelly bear friends follow you,
but I'm not sure.
But after several runs with the Jelly Bear, the chocolate duck was unlocked.
It's your standard Crossy Road character,
but like the chocolate chicken, the duck leaves a chocolatey mess.
Anyway, that's the candy level.
What do you think?
Are you happy that there are 304 characters now,
or is this a little too extreme?
I tried thinking of a game with more playable characters,
but I don't know of anything that comes close to 300.
WOW! 😳
I still like Crossy Road, but unlocking characters is becoming quite a chore.
Although, if not for this update, I probably wouldn't have played it.
I've mainly been playing TRANSFORMERS: Tactical Arena, Star Trek: Legends,
and Zen Party pinball these days.
Links to those videos are in the description.
So what do you think of the new update?
