[Music]
hello and welcome back to the off-grid
family today it's another not so
off-grid kind of project but it's a
project that might actually help other
people my auntie has got this old
conservatory and unfortunately the door
behind me is now locked shut and it
won't open she had someone round today
who treated her very unfairly basically
told her knock the whole thing down
there's no point and was very abusive to
her in my opinion and so I've come over
to fix the door he offered her to do it
for five hundred pounds so I'm going to
try and do it myself and I'll talk you
through the process and this may have
might one of you guys out there so I
thought I might as well that's get on
with it Joey
okay so what's happened is Sacchi stuck
locked get your finger round it in
advance that none of it's working
try unlock or not get so there are a few
tricks I know of that may help so let's
see what we can do first thing to try is
unscrewing the actual handle
which have been sealed shut I'm fortune
hey let me try a bit of wd-40 on the
actual screws and then basically with
wd-40 just wait five minutes to do its
job and then come back and try that one
glistening off
[Music]
one does not watch my own
[Music]
that's one out that gives us a little
bit of wiggle and even the smallest bit
of wiggle my help I need to get that one
out so try again there is a bit of
movement on it now go with wd-40 again
[Music]
don't be show wd-40 is amazing stuff
keep spraying it the don't go writers
cigarette round it because you'll end up
setting fire to yourself I'm screwing
that one back in to see if it'll help
with unscrewing this one out still don't
wanna bounce budge
now not too too violently but use a
wooden mallet or a rubber mallet and tap
it and hopefully that will break any of
the connections that are sticking
together that never wants to come out
so my next job is to go outside and see
what where it's connected and if we can
do anything with it from the other side
okay well around the back to attempt to
hit it from the other side you know give
it a bit of a wd-40 and a whack and the
key wouldn't even fit in that side so a
little tap with the rubber mallet you
don't want to use anything too too
strenuous just tapping it that went in
but I've still got no motion on the
cylinders at all so there is one thing I
can do which would be to force it at the
top and it will snap a small bit out but
at the moment I don't want to do that so
I'm going to persevere with this screw
and with the locking mechanism after I
trying to unscrew the bottom screw again
from the other side the it is actually
solid in here somewhere at the back is
twisting okay - you know you can feel
that it's moving but somewhere in here
it's rusted solid so what I've done
just gently I've drove I've taken the
square out from the other side and then
I've pushed a screwdriver down so now
we've got a little gap against where the
lock is only a small gap but enough to
be able to spray more wd-40 in there and
hope that it gets where the screw is
always sprayed the lock as well now
again leave it a couple of minutes and I
got to try and unscrew it again from the
other side otherwise if I can't unscrew
the handle then I'm going to have to
start thinking about a brute force
method ok I've left it again for a few
minutes what I'm going to do is use my
thrill I'm going to have it
unscrew screw unscrewing back and forth
and see if we can wiggle it loose but
when doing this do not let the drill bit
spin or your men depth reading the
screws and all sorts and asses so hold
it tight it's just starting to spin in
the screw am I going to lose any thread
we have I believe that is in there for
good so we might have to go with the
brute force method and then they're just
trying to tap it with the screwdriver in
there to break the the threads away from
what if they press it into and try again
I think that's in there for good I will
try one more blast with wd-40 on this
side and one more on the other
okay I've tried and tried at that screw
and there's nothing getting out so I'm
actually have to go outside and look
into doing a brute force method are you
there
using a grinding disc to cut the bit
that's locked because there's only
locked at the top the rest of it is
completely opened and we need to get the
lock mechanism out so we're not going to
try and save the lock anyway so with
these type of doors the lock mechanism
it all the way along that's why when you
push the handle up you see all the
little hooks jut out and that's where
it's stuck just at the top so I'll see
what I can do if I pull on the door I
should see a couple of screws appearing
so what I'm going to try and do is
unscrew them see if that will let give
us enough to be able to pull it loose I
could get enough gap here to be able to
actually unscrew the bottom part of the
lock so I may be able to now bash
upwards or downwards a camera which way
to release the top lock wish me luck
okay I've unscrewed all the things
holding the actual lock on now so if I
can take that off so there we go that's
the entirety of the lot at and now this
one is connected to the one above so I'm
wondering which get this lock out so
start unscrewing all the screws that I
can get to and this one is solid as a
rock in there so I'm actually enough to
drill that one out so another little one
that I've got to get and then we can
pull out a bit of the locking mechanism
maybe enough to release it I don't know
I managed to get it open what I did I'm
screwed as many screws I could and found
that both the bottom latching mechanism
didn't get that in camera this one and
the top one and not connected so once we
pulled that one counter loose was able
to unlock and lock the door so now let's
see if we can salvage any of this or if
it's need to go back how it is
right after having a quick look the
500-pound problem is just and he try and
open this here I try and get it in short
it's really bright out is very hard to
see through the blue binder this because
up and down
I'm actually not it's just in here this
little thing here it goes up and down
only do that there's no longer connected
to what it should have been that's all
that was wrong so I might actually be
able to put this whole thing back
together I've taken the entire locking
mechanism up all the way from the top
and now I'm going to have a look to see
if I can fix this some end is still not
allowing it to turn properly so I'm
going to have a look in there but
unfortunately I still can't get this
screw off I have managed to spray
directly into the place that is where
it's where their actual screw is stuck
so I've tried again in a few minutes if
I can get that all off I can take the
whole bit out and I can actually look at
it properly while I'm waiting for the
wd-40 to work inside here I've screwed
the other screw back in and I'm going to
just fiddle with the lock mechanism the
reason I've screwed the other screw in
is if the handle is moving around it may
actually be the problem and stopping it
opening and closing for locking and
unlocking I should say
[Music]
whole lot mechanism is horrible right
first thing I want to do now is connect
this strip back in to make sure that it
is actually going in and out where it
should be right my auntie will never
well might be able to afford this year
to buy a new door or new locking
mechanism or anything she's thinking
about getting the doors replaced when
she can afford it what I'm going to try
and do is get the middle section working
so that she can at least lock it just in
one point that's you know that's safe
enough for her what I'm going to do
first then is I'm going to cut this damp
and and screw that back on and that way
it will hold the bits where they should
be in their correct alignment and I'm
hoping that'll be enough after the wd-40
is done it's working a lot of wiggling
to get it all nice and working again
will be enough to be able to open and
close the door safely so it won't lock
itself again right I'm just going to get
my grinder with its cutting disc on and
I found I haven't got the cutting disc
on it and also it's got a tiny crack in
the disc that's they're very dangerous
to use and
attempt it anyway so I've only got
otherwise a multi-tool with the tiny
cutting bits
[Music]
right I'm not going to touch that for a
sec and then I'm going to screw it back
on something I noticed was on the back
of this it's actually a bit rusty so I'm
just going to get that off and then
flatten it as you can see it's a little
bit bent here where I was having to
pressure pull it out of the frame so I
just give that about a couple of taps of
the hammer I'm just going to get the
rust off first
there we go all the rust off it's been
straightened as best I can
and now I'm going to reattach it okay
and there we go and it still locks and
then locks which is the point so there's
one with one point of safety now not
that not all of them but as I say she
can't afford another one and sometimes
it's better to do what you can or other
than you know go out and pay loads of
money for something you can't afford so
I test it with the door shut now
hopefully it works and there we go
unlocked and oh god just joking and luck
done so she can still be safe within a
house okay thanks for watching I hope
someone found this useful because these
things can be blinking expensive and you
know this isn't the first time I've had
to take apart a patio door before
completely different from the last one
but they all work similar if you get my
drift if you ever have a problem and you
need to ask any questions please leave
comments I answer quite quickly and I
hope you enjoyed it
see you again soon bye
