hello everyone this is Anson from Anson
Alex calm and in this video I'm going to
talk about what you should do if you
think your email account has been hacked
step 1 change your password right away
the very first thing you should do if
you can still get into your account you
need to change your password after
you've changed your password I think the
second most important thing to do is to
check and make sure that your account
isn't set up with email forwarding what
somebody can do is they can hack your
account they can get your password they
can log into your account and then they
can set your account so that it forwards
emails to another account so even if you
change the password they'll still be
receiving any emails that you receive
which might have confidential
information them so to do that I'm going
to show you for Yahoo and Gmail I'm
going to show you Yahoo first since that
was hacked again recently
right now I'm logged into my yahoo mail
account you do have to be logged in in
order for this to work you're going to
click on the gear icon at the top right
corner or just hover over it go to your
settings in settings you're going to
click on accounts you're going to then
click on your yahoo account
underneath email addresses and you're
going to scroll down to the very bottom
where it says access your yahoo mail
elsewhere there shouldn't be anything
set up here other than things that
you've set up in the past if there is
you need to delete that forwarding out
to do this in Gmail I'm going to move
over here to Gmail we're going to click
on the gear icon in the top right corner
as well we're going to go into our
settings inside of our settings we're
going to go to forwarding and pop/imap
and in this forwarding section you
should see any email addresses that have
been set for your account to forward to
and if you don't recognize the email
address delete it out so those are the
first two steps changing your password
and then deleting any email forwarding
that you have set up in your account the
third step might be to go to your sent
mail if you go to your sent mail folder
you can check and see if there's been
any spam mail sent out to any of your
contacts so what you might want to do is
email those contacts and let them know
that you're getting control of your
account back and that hopefully
everything is resolved but that you
would also like them to let you know if
they receive any other spam from you
that way
it within a few days time or maybe a
week you should be able to tell whether
or not you've gotten control of your
account back
to check to see if your account has been
hacked I just uploaded a video on this
for Yahoo but I'll show you for both
Gmail and Yahoo I think changing your
password is what you should do before
you even checked to see if attacked if
you have an idea that it might have been
but once you've got that all set in
Gmail all you need to do is go to the
bottom right of your screen when you're
logged into Gmail and click on this
details link and I'm not going to do
that right now but when I do do that
it's going to pop up and it's going to
show me where my account has been
accessed from so if it's been accessed
from a weird part of the world or just a
place that you haven't been recently
then that's most likely somebody who's
hacked your account in Yahoo you're
going to do the same thing but what
you're going to do is willing to close
out of this what you're going to do is
you're going to click on your username
or hover over your username in the top
right corner of Yahoo go to account info
and then in account info you're going to
click on recent activity and that will
show you the same thing that we just
looked at in Gmail to show you where
your yahoo account has been accessed
from so that's how you can tell if you
have been hacked or not if you can no
longer access your account if you're
entering the password that you think is
your current password and it's not
working then you may have been hacked
and somebody actually changed your
password which is really you want to
catch it before that happens but if it
happens it happens and what you need to
do is you need to try to recover your
password so for Yahoo for example if I
were to log out of my account and so now
I'm here at the login screen of Yahoo
and I can't remember my password I need
to click on the trouble is it me or is
that spelled wrong there's a typo on
Yahoo's website I need to click on the
trouble signing in link whether it's
Gmail Yahoo Hotmail whatever email
address and then you need to go through
the process of trying to recover your
password hopefully you set up a backup
email address or a backup phone number
on the account and the hacker hasn't
changed that so that you will be able to
have a new password sent to you or you
will have be able to have a link sent to
you to your email so that you can create
a new password so again first step is to
change your password second step is to
check and make sure that your account
hasn't been set up for email forwarding
then you want to see if you've sent any
spam mails to your contacts and if you
can't access your account at all you
want to go through the recovery steps to
try and reset your password if that
fails you're going to have to try and
get into contact with customers
Court for the service to share using
whether it be Yahoo Gmail AOL hotmail
etc so I hope you found this video
helpful if you did I would really
