hey guys welcome to today's video which
is
all about how i take my notes on my ipad
this is one of my most requested videos
so i decided i would make it i go
through literally everything i
do to note-taking from the start to the
end so it's pretty long but be sure to
stay
throughout the whole video if you want
to know everything i do to take notes
first off the app i use is good notes
really good note taking out
all of my notes are organized into
folders as you can see
by category into the subject and then i
have it organized into notebooks and all
the slides that i take notes with are
into a folder
so first off let's just get into the app
there are three types of pens
the first is the fountain pen and this
has like variable thickness
dependent on pressure this is the ball
pen that
doesn't matter how much pressure you put
on it's always going to be the same
thickness
and then this is the brush pen where you
can do calligraphy
and they have tons of colors and i
usually use the pastel and lighter
colors
as it shows up better on the black paper
that i use
and you can also change the thickness
make it super thick and thin
and while we're talking about the pens i
always get like questions how do i use
the brush pen so
use it on max pressure sensitivity don't
know what it means but it just works
i usually use 0.5 and
i just press down really lightly for the
up strokes and then press
down much harder for the down strokes it
definitely takes
a lot of practice and a lot of using the
pen to get used to it
you could definitely do practice
calligraphy sheets on
good notes to improve your calligraphy
as
i know the pen is not easy to use and
you just need to practice it to get
better at it and i'm still working on my
calligraphy it's by no means
the best on good notes so for my paper
i always use the black grid paper mainly
because it's
nicer on the eyes so the template and i
always use it in letter and you can
change the color but just
dark paper is the best and you can also
change the portrait and landscape
orientation
and there are tons of just templates to
choose from
so i'm just going to show you how to
import your own template just in case
you don't like any of them
so first you're going to have to go into
your files and
get whichever template you want here i
just have a bunch of legal paper
templates
so i'm gonna first import that and then
you just go to the end
and you insert it and there you have
your own template
in there my next tip is to use a color
scheme you can go on good notes and use
the pastel colors or you can go onto
and you can look at some of the color
schemes they have
i currently have a pinterest board which
is linked in the description
about just different color schemes that
i find aesthetically
pleasing so i'm just going to show you
how to
import them into good notes to use so
currently i like this one
and then i'm going to screenshot it and
crop the picture
because we'll have to get the colors
from a website which i'll get into
later it's a bit confusing for the
process
if you want to have nice colors or there
are easier ways
such as finding one with hex codes
because to
enter colors customized into good notes
you need these hex codes which are these
six letter codes that correlate to
colors it's kind of confusing
but anyway since we didn't choose that
we're gonna have to search up
hex code picker from image and you're
going to want to upload
your image to their site don't worry
it's like safe and not sketchy i'm
pretty sure
and then you're going to use this little
tool and it's going to tell you
like the code for each of them and
then you're going to want to bring up
good notes and split screen things
and go into your presets to add your
customized color palettes
and here is where you'll just add in the
hex codes
so just zoom in and click on the color
once you've selected it you'll just want
to
type it in this part is the most tedious
of all and it does take a bit of time
but
you know what if you want nice colors on
your notes this is how you're gonna have
to do it you can always just like
try to estimate the color using the
color palette or choose
similar colors but i just like doing it
this way so once
i have my entire color palette i'm going
to talk about title ideas
first you can always use the text
function there are some pretty cool
fonts out there but over is this really
cool app
and they have really nice and
interesting text
so you can make more interesting fonts i
don't know how to upload fonts into good
notes but i hear it's super confusing so
i don't really know how to do it and
here on over
they have like tons of free fonts and
i'm just going to show you my favorite
one
this one and there are tons of other
ones too
and make sure you get the text in the
right color and then
copy the image over on and paste it
using
the lasso tool i just chose a really
similar font i kind of like the block
letter because what we're gonna do next
is one of my favorite ideas
is adding this monoline cursive
to the bottom of it and i honestly just
think it looks kind of
unique and like modern it looks really
cool in general and it's super easy to
do on the ipad
and then i didn't really like the color
it was a bit too dark so i just lasso
tooled it and changed the color which is
something that's really great
about good notes and digital note taking
here
are my hand-drawn titles and the fonts i
use from over
so next we'll be discussing subtitle
ideas first we just have
normal writing next here is cursive
just plain and simple you can also just
spice it up a bit
by adding a line to the bottom like an
underline
and then you can also box it in if you
want and it's just super simple easy
minimalistic and here i'm just going to
show you how i used
these title ideas in my notes
you can do basically just really simple
ones because i find if you do something
extravagant it takes a lot more time
with your note-taking process if you're
in a rush
now if you decide to use white paper as
i know a lot of people do
you can run a highlighter through it but
on black paper
highlighter does not show up well
next i'll be getting into which pen
thickness i use
it's usually 0.5 to 0.6 depending on how
i feel sometimes 0.4 but not usually
and if you have it too thick you really
can't read your text and if you have it
too thin you probably can't read
your notes next i'll be discussing how i
do my bullet points
usually i have it in a hierarchy
so the first one gets this dot the
second one it gets like this
greater than sign and the third one gets
a dashed
line next i'll be discussing how exactly
i take my notes so usually
this is from a textbook or powerpoint
slides and then i'll just like
copy it next to it like summarize it in
my own words but sometimes taking notes
from a textbook is just faster on the
computer
but sometimes like you'll get a
powerpoint slide and you'll be
annotating it and the powerpoint sides
are honestly really
long so you want to condense it into
some notes and that's how i do it
so now we've just gotten straight into
the note taking process
i am taking these from a textbook i
usually would split
screen this but for the purpose of the
video so you can get like
a nice big picture of my note-taking
process i just looked on it
at my computer and so next i'm gonna be
telling you guys how to add diagrams
i'm gonna add a picture of a brain so
search up your image on the internet
be sure to get a clearer one and one
that's easy to trace
as that's what i'll be doing you can
always just insert the image
as is but personally i find it easier
and more
fun in your note-taking process when you
draw the picture
so i'm just going to show you how i draw
it first you'll want to crop the image
just makes it easier to draw the picture
totally unnecessary though
and then resize it to however big
you want it so i wanted mine to be like
not that big
and then i'm gonna trace the image
so first get like a color from the color
palette and choose like a lighter pastel
one
depending on the diagram you're drawing
this
process may differ and you may not need
to get a lighter pastel color
but i'm gonna like layer it on and have
like
the folds of the brain in like a darker
color it's kind of hard to explain right
now
but you guys will see afterwards how i
do it and then i color it in
and i just kind of repeat this process
for all the parts that need to be
colored
i find when you add your own
personalized diagrams it makes your
notes look
much better and they're more fun to look
at and more fun to take and it just
makes your entire
note-taking process much more enjoyable
and that's i guess what we're looking
forward to if you clicked
on this video just a tip here
but if you just increase the pen
thickness it is easier
to color in much faster as you can see
here
so once you've finished with your
diagram you'll want to
lasso tool it off make sure you have the
image selected off
or else you'll drag both of them just
have like the pen
highlighted on and then you'll want to
take your darker colors
and do the tiny details of your picture
as you can see the brain picture is
coming along quite nicely
from like just from afar
[Music]
if there's any finer details just zoom
in
to the picture and then you'll want to
take your lasso tool
and this is like the most satisfying
part of the video
i would say and you drag it on and it
fits like
perfectly right onto the picture and
it's like
pure bliss and you may want to like fill
in any cracks
and do some final touches on the picture
like
just to make it look better if you want
totally
optional though
so i wanted my brain to be labeled
because if it's not labeled what's the
point of drawing it and
so here i just simply labeled it on the
sides
kind of like in a circle which was
pretty cool and i wanted my brain
to be right here but it didn't fit so i
had to do some rearranging like
geometry it did take a bit of time you
should definitely
plan this out before you take your
pictures and
notes so just for my subtitle as you can
see the first one
i went for the simple one and i just
continued writing
for my note-taking process i usually
like keeping things
very organized and having the same
system you could say for example all my
terms and definitions are gonna be like
color coded in like the next part
and i just like having them easy to see
like your notes are meant for you to be
able to look at
and study from
[Music]
okay so i don't really know how long
this took me to take notes
because the time got cut off as
like i don't know but i just finished it
later on and here are the final notes
and now i'm gonna do color coding i
definitely
like having my notes to be color coded
to look interesting
and more unique so i take my color
palette and the lasso tool
and i color it in i have everything
in like a certain order so for these
terms
these are just like the definitions and
and then on the main part of the notes
i'm going to relate them to each other
it's kind of hard to explain
but you'll see like in a few seconds
when i do it so a sensory area
and then i see the primary visual area
right here and i color it in the same
color
this may not work for all your notes as
it's a kind of a
niche study technique but you can see
like
my sensory area gets colored in a
specific color
and i just did this for my entire notes
so
here is the final note taking process
it did take a long time to get to this
point and
we had a lot of explaining to do but we
finally got here
and that's how i take my notes very
exciting
all right thank you guys so much for
sticking to the end of
this video it's pretty long but have a
nice day
bye
