hey this is Brian from disable my cable
comm and today I want to give you ten
tips on how to get better reception with
your indoor TV antenna so my first tip
is probably the most obvious one it's
probably something you're already doing
and that is to put your antenna in a
window now you just want to make sure
that when you put it in the window it's
in an area that does not have a metal
screen behind it because that will block
your TV signals okay so if that's not
working what else can you do my second
tip is to put it in a window that's
facing the TV transmitter towers in your
area so if you want to find out where
though where those are and what
direction that is go to disable my cable
comm to a page called the station finder
now I'll include links in this video and
in terms of code and then I'll tell you
what direction TV signals are coming
from in your area if they're coming from
multiple directions we just have to
experiment with putting your antenna in
different windows when number three tip
is to put your TV antenna as high up as
possible in your home so if you have a
second-story put it in the second story
that'll get you more channels if you
have this is a cool trick that ice
covered if you have a skylight put it
try putting it in the skylight that can
also help a lot so almost like having a
rooftop antenna so generally speaking
not all the time but generally higher up
is better my number four tip is
something that she'll probably have to
do if you want to try the higher up
experiment which is use a different
cable and the my tip here is to use rg6
cable now how do you know if it's rg6
cable well it will say actually on the
cable rg6
if it doesn't it should have a model
number and if you google that you can
see it's rg6 or not the other common
type of cable that's out there is rg59
and that's not as good now you can see
the difference here in this hand i rg59
in this hand i've rg6 you can see
there's a slight difference in thickness
if you
just a motif that comes with rg59 cable
unfortunately so what I've done here is
I've actually swapped out the cable this
is this is an actual cable from a mobile
leaf I pretty much just tossed these and
replaced them immediately with rg6 cable
now some antennas will come with even
cheaper cables which are even thinner
and here's an example right here so you
can see the difference in thickness
right there it's pretty much over twice
as thick so this is the RG six and this
is a cheaper one now on that same note I
would definitely want to advise you to
avoid antennas where the cable is
permanently attached to the antenna like
this one there's no way to get it off
and so you're pretty much stuck with
antenna that has cheap cable attached to
it and so I would advise you to avoid
these types of antennas altogether my
next tip applies if you are using a
metal antenna like the cable cutter
Arroway
my tip on this one is to add some metal
to it if you're having problems getting
a certain channel I was having problems
watching Olympics this year and what I
did is I simply hung a coat hanger on
this antenna and it improved my
reception you can try a coat hanger
wires tinfoil anything that's metal to
kind of change the reception
characteristics of the antenna could
help and it's definitely worth trying my
next tip applies if you have if you have
an antenna that came with an amplifier
this is an example of an amplifier that
that might have come with a mote relief
now my tip here is to try it without the
amplifier because a lot of times the
amplifier does not help and it in fact
hinders your television reception
especially if there are strong signals
in your area what happens is that the
amplifier amplifies those and it swamps
out the smaller weaker signals so try
your antenna without the amplifier you
can usually
screw this and just bypass it all
together now if you don't have an
amplifier on your antenna and you live
in an area where the signals are very
weak then an amplifier might help so in
that case you could try an external
amplifier I would recommend ones made by
channel master of their high quality and
I tried them I don't think links in this
video but if you do decide to get one of
these make sure you get one from a
vendor that has a good return policy
like Amazon because there's probably a
50% chance that it won't improve your
reception my next tip is to rescan
regularly because TV stations change
their transmitter power they trans
change transmitter towers so station
that you couldn't get six months ago you
might be able to get now so keep trying
every so often because the TV stations
are not static they do change my next
tip after that is to eliminate
electrical interference in your home
some readers have said that when they
turn on certain appliances like a
fluorescent light or electric the
climbing chair their TV reception goes
bad so try turning off all the
electronic appliances in your house such
as computers Wi-Fi routers fluorescent
lights and see if that affects your TV
reception if it improves turn them back
on when it's time and see if you can
isolate which piece of equipment is
causing the problem my number 9 tip is
more of something to help you get some
data and that is to move your antenna
outside try the outside as an experiment
so again a long cable and move your
antenna outside and see if that helps
now in my case it helped a lot so that
told me that hey maybe it's a good idea
to get an outdoor antenna and so maybe
if you live in an apartment you won't be
able to drill a hole and put your
antenna outside outside your walls
but maybe you can convince your landlord
to get you an outdoor antenna because
you've proven that you can get better
reception with your antenna outside so
that's just something to help you get
more data and to help you make the
decision on whether you should invest in
a rooftop antenna or not my last tip
number 10 is something I've been saying
throughout this video which is to
experiment so take all the tips I have
talked about and try every combination
try different cables different locations
amplifiers and not using an amplifier
and just experiment you'll have to maybe
take some notes to keep track of your
results and it will take some time but
it can pay off one time I was doing
experiments with little my mum who leave
and actually fell on the ground on the
floor and I got better reception on the
floor than on the wall because it didn't
make any sense but it just went goes to
show that experimentation different
locations can can pay off sometimes
so try different wacky vacations try the
locations I've talked about in this
video first because they're most likely
to work but don't be afraid to try other
wacky locations like the ceiling or the
floor and try different cables and all
and all the techniques I've talked about
in this video so I hope this has helped
you if you have got some tips that you
found that helps you get better
reception please leave them in the
comments below
if you want more information on how to
get better reception and more
information on these tips and links go

video has helped you and thanks a lot
