hello this is ju hey look what we have
here we have a
door this door is in a girl's room and
what we want to focus today on
is the door knob now this girl kind of
wants a little bit more privacy
so today we're going to install a new
privacy
bed bathroom door lock so this
door knob lock is a quick set brand
but all uh they're all pretty similar in
construction
so if you have a different brand this
video should help you out
okay so taking a look what comes in the
package you do have both sides
of the door knob itself one has the
little security latch here
you have the latch itself right here you
have a little striker plate
you have a little drive-in collar here
this is not required for all
installations
and then you just have your hardware
right here and
some instructions okay so to remove the
doorknob
itself you just want to look on one or
the other side
of the door and you're looking for
little screw holes like that
which should have phillips screw heads
in them
and so you just take your phillips
screwdriver
and kind of fit it into the hole
and and back these screws out
just like that and with the screws
removed you just simply
pull the knobs off just like that one
uh knob will have this kind of rod this
u-shaped rod
on one end the other one will not have
that
so next you want to remove this internal
latch right here
and first you have to take this little
face plate off and so
usually this is a phillips head
sometimes a flat head
but you just remove these two screws
and then just simply remove the latch
from the hole
in this case the face plate is attached
to the latch
but in some cases the face plate can be
a separate piece
you can also remove the existing striker
plate and that's just
removing two existing screws and then
you could just replace it
with the new striker plate but in this
case i think i'll just keep this
existing striker plate
in place so when installing our new
privacy lock we just follow the
steps in the reverse order first by
installing the latch
now in this case the face plate is
attached to the latch just like the
previous one
now when when installing this you want
to know which direction
to install this little latch and so
you want to look at this little kind of
beveled end
now you want that end to face the door
as you shut it
because when you do you want it to hit
that striker plate
just like that and that's what moves
this up and down
if you do it the opposite way the flat
end here
will just basically prevent the door
from shutting all together
so you want to make sure that it's in
the right direction
and then i'm just going to use the two
screws that came with the kit
to just screw in the latch
okay so next we install the door handles
again there's
two different types of door handles
there's the inside one which has
the little latch for the privacy and
this will be
on this side where the bedroom is the
hall side will
be this one and this one has a little
hole in it
where you can actually install a little
tiny screwdriver or
you get this little tiny screwdriver
part
that comes with the kit and you can
actually stick this in
and twist it and that will actually
unlock the door so it's not really a key
but in an emergency you can actually
stick in a small screwdriver or this
little component
to unlock the door so the handle with
the little lock
in this case has this little rod right
here it's kind of in reverse order from
how we took it out
but so we want to install this in the
proper way
now again something to note is the shape
of this little rod
it's kind of has a little u shape right
here with a central bar
if you look at the opposite end this
also has uh some little uh components
and and this rod only fits in a certain
way so if you kind of go like this
it'll fit in like that if you uh
do it reverse it won't go in so it only
goes in a certain way
okay similar to the latch the latch
latch hole has a shape here so you want
to stick this rod
in this little hole but as you can see
there's a little bit of a
circular shape right there you push this
in a little bit there's a little rod in
there that kind of moves
but this also has that circular shape
and so you kind of want to
fit those shapes together you may have
to push this little
uh striker to get this thing in place
but you just get that in place and
you're good
so again the other side you want to fit
in
uh this little rod to fit in properly
with the other side of the the handle
here and since that fits like that
we're just gonna kind of fit it like
this and it'll fit in
nicely like that now the trickiest part
of this whole installation
is this little uh plate right here you
can see it kind of moves it moves
independent
of the main handle and you want to
line these two holes up with these two
holes
here because you're going to insert
these screws in
you want to make sure that this will hit
these right here and you can screw them
in
if if it's off you know if this isn't if
it
if it's down like this then you'll kind
of blindly
put the screw in in the wrong place so
this is truly the trickiest part of this
whole installation
so we're going to line up this make sure
it comes in
try to line this in as good well as we
can
and just with our fingers we're just
going to kind of feel around
to try to stick these holes to try to
stick these
in properly and sometimes you can peek
around
and then by holding the other side of
the knob
just kind of twist that in with your
fingers
until you're pretty confident you got in
that hole
and then just loosely fit and then you
want to do the other side as well
kind of feel around try to get in that
other side of the hole there
just finger screw it in until you think
you have it in there
and you can kind of pull it out and take
a look
and with those in place then you can
just take your
your screwdriver and then just
well you may want to use your fingers to
get them in as
far as possible and then you just take
your screwdriver
and drive them in the rest of the way
you may want to
kind of adjust this doorknob a little
bit because you can see it's a little
low there you can make a little high
so you kind of want to make sure it's
kind of in line
with this striker striker right here
before you tighten it all up
and then lastly you want to make sure
that this little
striker here moves freely that the
handles
move freely you can also test the
lockout itself
it's locked locked
unlocked unlocked and then in an
emergency you could always
test to make sure the little screwdriver
or in this case this little key works
just go ahead and lock it up like that
you kind of have to put this in that
little hole
kind of feel around to make sure you
have a little groove
and yes indeed you can see that it
unlocks
and relocks with this little key
and there you go i hope you enjoyed this
