If you don't know what a peep hole is, it's a fisheye lens
it shows you a wide field of vision so you can see who's outside your
front door. If you hang things like wreaths, you want to take that into account
so we're putting this high enough to see through the wreath
and at the right height for the home occupant. You don't want to place it
so that the person living in the home has to get on a stool if they're not very tall.
This is one I'm going to install. It's two parts and as you can see
there's not much room for error. See the lip at the top and the bottom
if I drill the whole the wrong size it's going to show so I have to make sure
the hole I drill is the exact size.
I found the mark to be made on the inside
of the door of
how high we want it to be and I'm just looking to the other side, I can see both sides
of the door at the same time if I stand in the middle of it
and use a ruler. Here I don't need one because there's a center panel.
I'm marking a piece a paper and folding it in half so I can find the center.
Make sure you get the center of the door because you don't want to be off.
It will look stupid.
I'm going to drill twice.
First a pilot hole. I should have chose a smaller bit.
This door is hollow on the inside. You can see foam coming out. Its fiberglass
so it's two pains fiberglass with foam in the middle
The fiberglass is only about an eighth of an inch thick
So if yours is the same you going to pass throughone layer and its going to fly through the foam.
When you drill your hole make sure it's straight
and doesn't end up crooked when it comes out the other side.
I'm going make the hole the right size for the peep hole to fit.
This drill bit is the right diameter but it is
dull. You can see it's not cutting very well and its making this job a lot harder
for me
Now on the inside,
I'm going to drill again.
If I drilled straight through with a big drill bit I would have torn a
hole
on the inside of the house. On the inside face of the door
and it would looked real ugly and this peep hole wouldn't have covered it. There's not
much forgiveness on the design of this peep hole.
If you have a foam door
blow out all the little bits so they don't get caught in peep hole.
Now it's really easy, just slip it in
and tighten it.
And that's it! Thanks for watching. I hope it's been helpful.
Have an awesome day.
