in this video i'm going to show you how
to change the euro cylinder lock barrel
without having the key with the door
stuck in the lock position
like this this is one method you can use
if you've lost your key but you've still
got access to both sides of the door
which is exactly what's happened here
this is not a video on how to break into
houses access from the inside is
required with this method first thing
you need to do is remove the handle
now these are just two phillips screws
top and bottom
like so
now
as you can see
these are quite long that's because
these are holding the outside door
handle on as well
so be careful when you remove them
because you don't want to drop the
outside handle on the floor maybe have
someone near the side
i'll knit round there now and get that
handle off
so literally you can just pull
the handle
away from the door
then you're left with that same on the
other side
there we go
right here's a little tip on measuring
the lock because when you come to buy
one you would have to buy the right size
so see that bar there that'll move
put that straight edge against the bar
and line it up with the lock and do the
same on this side and then mark it up
with your finger
now if you keep your thumb by there and
just pull that out then that distance
from there to there is the length of the
lock barrel
and in this case that is 105 millimeters
which
to be fair it was sticking out a little
bit at the front so we're gonna go for a
hundred mil lock barrel
now normally if you have the key you
better open the door get to the screw by
the side there under the screw turn the
key and just slide that barrel out we're
not in that luxurious position
unfortunately so we're gonna have to
snap that lock out of there now before
you do that you do need to check just
down the side of the lock check for any
grooves just down the side there uh
because that would be like an anti-snap
feature whereby if it snaps it doesn't
snap in the center it snaps the end off
and you still can't get the lock out so
just double check that yours hasn't got
that on there this one hasn't it's
smooth right the way down to the center
so we're safe to snap that one and it
should break in the middle so get a set
of mold grips
pop them on the barrel
as tight as you can
lock them off like
that hold them together and then
just chop
okay we're gonna try from this side
because the barrel's sticking out a
little bit further
ready one two three
one two three
nope
try again
okay
i might have done something
there we go
we finally did it
snap the lock
so what we're left with is
that part of the lock
should be able to push that
out the other side
there we go
just unhooked it off the screw there so
this is what we're left with we're going
to get an allen key in there now and try
and turn the cam just up in there
is what we need to try and turn with the
allen key it's going to pop it in that
way just tuck it up there
and then
i'm hoping
this would be easy
but not all day much hope
so we tried it from the other side have
we done it
oh you little beauty look at that
[Music]
so the way in which we did that then
i don't know if you could see from the
other side i know he's doing it but we
just
it was that bit there just slid it
across that way
just didn't take a lot in the end just a
little flick like that to that way and
it's uh at least the cam
so
now we've got an opening door now we can
actually go about putting the new barrel
in
okay at this point you can actually put
the handles back on so just slide the
handle
back on that side there we go just like
that
line them up
and pop the screws in
the easier when the doors open because
you can hold your hand
the other side so there we go
one
two
now you should be able to withdraw the
screw from the side
like that because that was actually
screwed into the barrel i take the new
lock barrel now
open it up so this comes with
three keys
the lock barrel itself which is
exactly the same size it also comes with
three sized
uh bolts to put that back in or screw
sorry and what you need to do is take
the screw
from the one you've taken out and match
it up really so that one's a bit long um
that one is the closest
so i'm gonna go with that one there
or i suppose you could just use the one
that
you took out but that one's the one that
came with the new kit
so it's definitely going to fit the
thread this lock barrel is about 10
pound from screw fix
so it's not an expensive job once you
can get it all apart so the lock barrel
normally sets with the key out
with that sticking out there
so i'll stop it coming out of the door
so we need to put that
so the key is slightly turned
and then that's smooth both sides
now you can just slide that in
to the hole here
so it literally
just slides in there
like so
might get caught on the handle the other
side i mean
i said you can put the handles on but
maybe it'd be easier leaving them off i
don't know
but there we are so that's turned now so
then all you need to do
is take your screw
and pop it in the side here
and screw it in
there we go jobs are getting we've
managed to change the barrel the
mother-in-law can get in and out of her
side door again we've saved her about
100 pounded locksmith bills as well the
door locks fine the door unlocks fine
and opens as well so she will be pleased
