are we going guys this crazy is 35 here
I'm going to show you how to unlock a
Western Digital DirecTV hard drive the
500 gig hard drives that come in the HD
dvrs
the DVRs where I got this from is the
DVR was discontinued usually if you get
a DVR that directivity replaces the send
you a new one and they tell you to just
send back in the access card and you
send it back in and then and the in the
instruction sheet that they give you on
how to send it back it will also tell
you to you can please turn the DVR into
a recycle center to where it can be
recycled properly recycle in a lek
Tronics recyclable well Center and but
anyways I took this out of one of those
DVRs and it is locked because of it
being a 500 gigabyte hard drive they're
pretty expensive but anyways somehow
some reason another Direct TV decides to
lock them I did this on a Seagate hard
drive earlier that came out I'm sorry
for the shaking I'm holding this camera
at the moment the Western Digital hard
drives they have a jumper for the power
up in standby mode what you'll need to
do is remove that jumper first I'm going
to set the camera down for just a second
and remove this jumper and then we can
get started
Oh give me just a second
okay as you can see the jumper is
removed now and the next step we will do
we will hook this up to the computer oh
there's a video already on the Internet
I can't remember the exact person's name
youtubers name on how to do the Seagate
hard drives but he's he's hooking it up
to a the DVR which you can do that to if
you want it then you know go ahead and
just let it power up using the DVR but
then you'll have to switch over
oh he's using a SATA to USB which you
really don't even have to have that too
if you do it the way I'm doing it here
and we're going to avoid that okay what
I'm going to do is set the camera down
for just a minute and get this hooked up
to the computer and then we will get
started from there okay guys I'm back I
paused the video phone before I set it
down
but anyway so as you can see I've got it
hooked up straight to my computer
without the DVR and next step we're
going to do is go up to the monitor and
I'll install a to run a tool that's
called H dot to HD 82 and what you'll
need to do I'll leave a link in the
description where you can get the tool
down below and also a written out
instructions on how to do this too if
you'd rather just follow those
instructions instead of watching a video
but I'll leave all that information in
the description below I'm going to pause
the video for a minute while I get my
camera set up to the monitor and then
it'll get started okay guys I'm back
power up your computer Oh what you only
do is just power the computer and if it
sometimes the H stat will automatically
boot up if it doesn't then you'll have
to go into your boss and set it to boot
from CD ROM Drive all when it comes up
to this menu right here just hit enter
and allow it to do this thing
it's on on these if it's in just let it
get a little pause for a minute there on
that strangers allow it to just continue
running don't hit any any keys on a
keyboard if it comes up with a red error
on written on the string when it gets to
this section right here it'll ask you to
type in HD 82 Exe space for /w ' I will
show you that you will type in HD 82
space
/w ' and then hit enter what this is
going to do is it is telling you to that
the hard drive is in standby mode if
taking the jumper pin a jumper off of
the jumper pins doesn't allow the hard
drive to spin up from standby mode then
you it'll come up with the error tell
you that it's in standby mode you will
have to type in this oh I forgot the dot
exe I'm sorry guys it this camera is
between me and the keyboard space for /w
' and I apologize this is only my second
video doing this I'm not really a video
type instruction guy but anyway so you
will type in this on Oh to get started
as far as taking it out of standby mode
what I was saying it would come over the
error telling you that the hard drive is
in standby mode you will type this in
and hit enter to allow it to I'll take
it out of standby mode once it does then
it'll go into the H dot - tool to allow
you to start
the unlock process and if it doesn't
come up with error then you can just
type in H dot 2 and hit enter and it'll
automatically go into the tool or you
can just type in this right here and
then hit enter and it'll go into the
tool and once it boots up it'll show you
the list of drives you have illa you're
the hard drive and the city dvd-rom that
you have RAM I mean but anyways when as
long as your hard drive you will select
the hard drive that if it's highlighted
depends on how you have it hooked up in
your computer on the SATA ports in my
case the though it's in the number 1 and
once the hard drive is highlighted
you'll hit enter and you'll go to this
menu here and on this menu what you'll
need to go go to is the device
configuration menu and we'll scroll down
to
device configuration and overlay and hit
enter
and after you get to this section right
here you'll you'll need to select
restore and then it'll ask you at the
bottom of the screen do you want to do
this yes or no just tap the letter Y and
then press any key to continue okay and
then once it gets done with that process
it will come back up and it'll it'll be
DCO area is disabled DCO area unfrozen
is disabled once you get to this section
on here it will allow you to move on to
another section we'll need to hit escape
to go back to the menu and let's see I
think that's where we need to be and now
we need to select the commands menu
scroll down to commands menu and on this
we will go to select you know select
commands feature sets hit enter ok and
then we will go down to this if it
should be disabled but now on the side
of hard drives oh this is this is the
Western Digital harder you will have to
do this on the state of hard drives if
if you're doing this with a SATA hard
drive to unlock one of those then you
have to scroll down and select oh that
power up standby to disabled because
it'll show enabled you can go through
that step and follow the on-screen
instructions it'll come up with a yes or
no you just select Y for yes and hit
enter and then it'll disable it after
you get past this part
then you will be able to well as long as
it finishes without errors turn the
computer off unplug the power front from
the DVR if you're using the DVR but you
can leave it in the computer to just
power off your computer and I've left
instructions down below on how to do
this using the DVR but you can bypass
the DVR part like I said at the
beginning of the video you can just boot
the computer back up with just the you
know take the city city out of the city
to run Drive that way it doesn't back up
into this h2 and you can install Linux
or you could have just installed Linux
straight to the hard drive without doing
any of this stuff as long as the jumper
pin is removed from from it before you
get started because the jumper pin was
on the powerup in standby jumpers you
can install linux from using a live CD
you can boot it up using the linux live
CD with a as long as gparted gparted
should come pre-installed on it run the
gparted
and boot into you know you or you can
you know just download gparted and
install it on a flash drive and you can
format your delete the partitions and
format the hard drive and I should be
able to show you those steps in just a
minute I'm going to go ahead and hit
escape to get out of all of this and we
are done and what I'm going to do is
power off my computer and we'll pause
the video for just a minute and get it
set up to run to boot up into the OH
departed in a minute and show you how to
delete the partitions and format the
hard drive and in order to go to using
the hard drive as storage in Windows
I'll be back in just a moment
okay guys I'm back I got the flash drive
hooked up to computer
what I'm going to do is boot this thing
up into gparted and show you how to run
the gparted to delete partitions and
format hard drive what we're doing here
is booting it up from the flash drive on
line I press escape when I get to the
first main blue screen there in order to
boot it up into some Aiyaa
select boot device menu I'm going to go
down to general you disk that's a USB
Drive that I have and hit enter it will
boot into gparted you'll select a hit
enter on the first one there just use
default settings on this allow it to run
it will take a minute to go through all
these scripts I'm used to Windows stuff
this Linux is all new to me I don't know
a whole lot about Linux but this is all
gparted that's all a Linux base as far
as I understand oh I'm going to pause
the video for just a minute and let it
run through all this
okay we're back this screen will pop up
you will hit enter to choose that and
hit enter again just enter again just
selecting all default settings that it
has on here you don't have to type
anything just keep hitting Enter
it will boot up into gparted and then we
will be able to use departed to delete
partitions it will show your hard drive
right here it has both if it pops up
showing your flash drive and under
gparted
then you know it'll probably pop up
showing it right there and you know
whatever size your flash drive is you're
using - only one gigabyte flash drive so
let's just tap on that arrow right there
and select the hard drive that you have
highlight that hard drive on each one of
them what you're going to do is
highlight that go up here or partition
is and delete each partition and for
some reason it is not showing up
allowing me to delete it maybe this one
will show up yeah delete must be because
it's unallocated this this Linux stuff
is kind of weird
delete delete on the SATA hard drive all
of this was allowed me to delete all of
this what you're going to do on this is
create a new partition and just select
add and it selects that it creates a
whole the whole hard drive is one single
partition and then you will select it
again and go to format what I'm going to
do is format it for NTFS to use with
Windows
select apply and there we go all right
all operations completed successfully
you can close that out and you can see
right there it's formatted in the file
system in TFS 465 point seven six
gigabytes it won't show the entire 500
gigabytes because it uses a certain
amount of space for whatever system
files the stuff like that that you have
to you that the system has to use we can
close this out and double click on exit
and exit out of this it will pop up in
just a second it allow you to shut down
the computer this is what we're going to
do shut down the computer and then we're
going to boot this up into Windows and
then we will download the Western
digital tools and allow it to allow
Windows to see this hard drive as
external storage not external storage
but an extra internal storage space on
the Seagate hard drive I did earlier I
download a Seagate tools it's basically
the same thing you downloaded install it
run it and then it automatically pops up
at the bottom of your screen with you a
little information thing telling you
that it's it's recognized and installing
drivers for the new hard drive but
anyways I'm going to pause the video for
just a minute and go hook up my Windows
hard drive and get started on booting it
up in the windows when I come back will
will be booted up in the windows and
then we'll go from there ok guys I am
back what I just figured out while I was
o getting after I got windows loaded up
I decided to check and see if the hard
drive would show up sometimes Western
Digital hard drive
we'll show up this is Windows 10 that
I'm using here I've been testing Windows
10 I've been doing the windows insider
program testing Windows 10 just new
different versions of the you know the
latest versions of Windows tens is
coming out with all new new features and
things are adding to it but anyway so it
there's the hard drive the Western is
your hard drive it showed up under so
you don't have to download the Western
Digital too that uses to do any kind of
partitioning running tests on the hard
drive stuff like that but over here
let's close this out and see got twos
when once I had when I had the Seagate
hard drive that had done the first one I
had to download Seagate tools install it
and run it before it would recognize the
Seagate hard drive but of course you
know the Western Digital with it being a
different brand hard drive it
automatically showed up but anyways
that's pretty much it that's all you
have to do and I really appreciate you
guys watching my video and please if you
would hit subscribe down below if you
like to see other videos that I may be
doing in the future if I can get around
to find an extra time to do this stuff
but but anyways thanks for watching my
video and hope you enjoy everything and
you guys have a good day
