it was going on YouTube welcome back to
the channel today I'm going to show you
how to fix that a bad key fob this is
actually for a 2010 Chevy Equinox and
we're gonna do it for under ten dollars
so if you're new here going at the
subscribe button I hit the bell so you
get updated whenever I upload a video so
let's get to it first of all you're
gonna need your old key fob you're gonna
need your new key fob one package that
in a minute you're gonna need a small
hammer it can be a claw hammer whatever
that's just a small one that I have you
might need this larger flat blade
screwdriver I'll show you why in a
little bit
you don't need a small Phillips
screwdriver a very small punch and a
small flat blade screwdriver
alright let's some packages I got this
off of Amazon the cost eight dollars and
some change to get it shipped to me as
you can see it looks very good tape over
that you'll see that in a second a blank
key I will show you how to swap over the
laser-cut blade to this one so you don't
have to get this one cut and spend more
money so that's what she is and I'll put
links in the description for this one
one with remote start and then there's
little two remote start and power
liftgate
I will make sure that all three cases on
there I know this one's just over eight
dollars the other two I'm not sure but
I'll put that in the description all
right the first thing we're gonna do is
slop over the blade this is the old key
fob broken when you partially have it
open you'll see there's a roll pin there
so you want to punch that out and this
blade will actually come out of this
housing now you could swap this whole
housing to the replacement key fob case
but I have had it where this one is
slightly different than the aftermarket
and will not work correctly so I try to
make everything work like it's an OE key
fob so I just prefer to take this blade
out put it in the new fob case and vice
versa and throw the other stuff away but
so to do that we're gonna use a vise
and I'll put it in to where I can kind
of hold it open put your punch on there
with this and I know this is bolted down
but working on a better better bench she
moved a little bit I try to just tap
lightly and not go crazy with it that
way I don't bend the blade because then
you have to get a cutting off to go to
the dealership and get a cut by VIN yep
she's moving nice now we'll put it up
here where I won't want to roll that
just broke all right I saw in the last
clip the end of that broke off trying to
the screwdriver didn't work tried an
Allen wrench didn't work there's
actually still enough on here to start
driving it out and as you can see there
that roll pin is started almost all the
way I'm gonna grab some pliers which I
forgot to put the tool list so I'll add
that to the description and we'll try to
wiggle this out the rest of the way
inside driving it all the way out all
right got a pair of vise grip needle
nose hold this off to the side and start
working this out
now the biggest thing is this one is
Rusted this pin the new fob will use
that roll pin I'm not really worried
about destroying this one I thought at
the playout it's the whole purpose of
this see if we can drive it a little bit
farther
all right we're gonna change plans we're
gonna get this disassembled get this
piece separately and then we'll get that
pin the rest of the way out all right
this is simple the key fob you'll need
the little screwdriver possibly this
we'll see how she comes apart first
thing you want to do pop that up and
take the battery off the battery stay
stuck just take a screwdriver and work
it just like that and then this the part
where everybody worries but literally
you just want to pry the two piece the
two halves apart
and remember all we're saving is the
board and the blade and the battery so
doesn't matter what it looks like when
it's done you just want to get it apart
there you go you see it's starting to
come apart now they are pressed together
really really well
set this aside so you finish get the
blade out of it the battery
there's your board all that's trash
alright the new one will come apart a
lot easier pop that off you'll have
stick on em on that I should go back
here which will show you at the end and
these have a screw they go behind the
emblem that hold the case together
because once you take them apart even if
you could salvage it it's not going to
stay very well the trash pile so this
part you'll need the little screw driver
and as you can see a little Phillips
screw there take that out screw
then gently we saw he's that already
popped up gently worked the case they're
not Marit
and I'll show you how to put the put all
that back together some not very
difficult there we go
it's like that save that save that save
that there you go here's everything
except for this piece that we use so now
well get this roll pin out we'll drive
the roll pin out of the new piece and
then we'll swap the blade to there all
right got the blade out and as you can
see there is a little groove right there
on the receiving end
there was a roll pin where the roll pin
goes you want to line them up to where
the groove goes where the roll pins
gonna go so it's started we'll go back
over to the vise well tap her down the
rest away put the roll pin in all right
roll pins in that is assembled the way
it should be so now we're gonna put the
key fob together
so you have that spring there there's a
little ear on it and inside the case
actually this is the air I'm talking
about the one that's actually sticking
out is that just like that it'll stick
in there it'll stay you can't rotate it
well you can by the spring but all right
this which I don't know if I get a shot
inside there's a little groove that
lines up with that there once you get it
you'll rotate you fill fill the spring
resisting back all right if I've played
itself I'll sit like so needing to one
of two ways you can do that or you can
put bring it over here put in here there
is one pin there and there once you line
them up like so it's not stuck in place
it will fall so here's where everybody
gets irritated with these and everything
I've read is the key will not flip once
you get it down in the grooves there's a
groove there groove there rotate the key
fob or rotate the key one turn now it's
got spring resistance you have to hold
it and put all this together like so
your board is going to move so it's just
a matter of playing with it until
oh that is together and as you can see -
that's like it's supposed to work all
right
now you will take the little Phillips
screw that came out the back put it back
in there don't go crazy will strip out
the case and run it in maybe dang
magnetic screwdriver there we go
sorry that is in battery positive up
like that put the cover on now for me
the car isn't here just the bob was
dropped off I can press the buttons and
feel the actual buttons engaging so I
know it's going to be good
peel off the adhesive on the back with a
Chevy emblem drop it where the screw
went push it in give it a few few
scrapes gently take a pick a screwdriver
or something
gently work up the blue coatings peel it
off there you go one brand new to you
key fob for under ten dollars
as you can see lock and unlock works
