my name is Bob Buzzard I'm the bed man
I'm here to give you a short end service
on the operation and functions of the
new versa care bed first thing make sure
the power cord is plugged into the wall
I've had numerous calls where the bed
was just not plugged up to the power
cord and that would be the gray cord
the second thing we've had some problems
lately with the nurse call 37 pin
connector not being plugged up into the
wall this is also located on the front
front of the bed and this cord would be
plugged into the bed locator that's at
the head of the bed this would be the
first thing that you would do when
checking preparing the room for the
patient make sure this this is plugged
up and the power cord I find that a lot
of nurses they come to the side rail
controls and first of all everything
should be lit up you know that bed is
operational that way however nothing
works none of the controls are work
unless you light up they call this the
enable key a lot of times I go into a
room or I'll get a call that the beds
not doesn't feel good or the mattress is
flat
I would suggest hitting the enable key
and putting the mattress on maxi inflate
it's the the one that shows the the
mattress larger were the first button to
the left of the enable key this will
fully inflate the mattress to the hard
position it would be the one you would
do like if you would pull the CPR it
automatically goes to that so you have a
firm surface to work off of this by Hill
roms description is a
pressure sensitive mattress made to keep
from getting bed sores and leading to
that cut type of situation so this bed
will inflate and deflate on its own
according to the weight of the person
that's on it both ends of the bed it is
hooked by these and as you can see this
one was not hook one side is hooked the
other side should be hooked underneath
the brackets two plastic two on this in
two on the other end you pull the
mattress to one side slide the up one
under go back to the other side and
slide the other side under this enables
the mattress to be fully extended if you
have a say a 7-foot person on this bed
that's also here with your foot you
enable key you extend you can extend the
foot out depending on how tall your
patient is or how short your patient is
and you can move it back that's why this
mattress needs to be hooked at both ends
so that it will extend and you you can
it'll fit the person that's in the bed
it is suggested that your patient's hips
be at this point in this mattress you
have three sections you have the back
the torsional part and the heel and they
inflate and deflate as you move around
but we've had times where they say it's
uncomfortable or I'm sitting in a hole
or something well if the patient's hip
is supposed to be here and they're not
setting right on with their heavy part
of their body right on this part of the
mattress it's going to feel like you're
in a hole we've had two or three of
these destroyed from being caught
underneath the bed lowered on them
smashed they should try to remain
in the side rail here next major problem
we're having is a lot of times the bed
will come down it'll be total locked out
what you have to do at the beginning the
enable key has to be lit to do any of
this kind of stuff so you have to have
that lit and and hold it to get these
lights out so that the battle function
same way with the total lockout see it
won't come on it can be lit but you have
to have your finger on that button to
make these light up or to make them go
out you all know to the how the key
works you light up the enable key hold
the the button and that will reset the
scale you let go it's calibrating and
the bid will go back to zero this should
be done before the patients put in the
bed because it's not you have to get the
patient back out of the bed you
calibrate that and you should also have
any items that that the patient is going
to have on their possession at all you
know all the time like a blanket the
pillow should be on there there's a
button and if you push this and hold it
until the green light comes on the bed
will work unplugged
just that function with it unplug you
hit it the green light comes on and then
you can actually move the bed up and
down by battery and no power this is
especially convenient in the operating
room or somewhere where you can't get to
a cord but you need to move the bed up
and down or to transport somebody and
you're not not close enough to to a
power source we also have an obstacle
detector on this bed it's along each
rail along the side and on the foot end
you can identify it by the blue marks
and the circle with the foot end I've
called on this more than anything else
and you can see if something is laying
on here this light will be blinking and
what it'll do the bit will start down if
something goes there it kicks right back
up the bed will not go down
because you have something in there it's
going to be caught like a foot or it
doesn't really matter
I've been called there's been cotton
balls cotton balls laying on this rail
tissues the most common is the power
cord or some of the telephone cord we do
not want to put anything underneath on
this rail or under this bed just because
we're doing damage to them one of the
biggest complaints about this bed was
the patient's they didn't like it
because this blower that inflated and
deflated all the time they also have
what they call a sleep mode now you have
to light up the enable key right right
assist left assist hold them both until
they light up green and that will put
you in sleep mode and the blower will
not activate and how you go off is you
either wait 8 hours or you push any
other key and that will take care of
that we are also installing equipment
locators on all the beds little black
oval I know you've seen them they work
through the nurse call just the same as
your badge or the your device that you
you all use when you go into a room so
they can track you these locators are
gonna tell me where the bed is at that's
half the problem the other half is
getting this bed out of service and into
my shop so I can work on it we have come
up with a little red sign that I will
place on the footboard of every bed at
the beginning of the month and it'll it
says remove from service and return to
plan operations this is not to alarm the
patient or anybody else as soon as that
patient is discharged housekeeping me
nursing we're going to all have to work
together and get this bed out of service
as soon as possible so I can do the
schedule PMS and stuff on the bed we're
going to go over one other
think about this versa care bed we have
taken five of the new beds and put
overhead traction on these my biggest
concern about this is I found that the
beds come back to storage and the bars
are a lot of times off of the off of the
off of the frame and what one thing we
just have to learn and to to watch is
just as I have this bed set up as you
raise a bed up you have to make sure
that the foot in is back inside of the
rail or what we're going to do is we're
going to lift this thing completely well
it's slipped by but it'll lift the bed
lift lift everything off and this thing
comes down here hanging like this and
and all kind of of a bent up ways and
stuff so we really need to watch that
keep the bed below below the rail and
extend it inside if you have to go out
pass pass that in just make sure that
it's below below the bars out there
because we don't want this thing to come
over on a patient or injure a patient in
any way so that's pretty
self-explanatory and we know we never
take this apart this stays on the bed
just I think it's clean by housekeeping
and brought back down here when you're
finished with it you call the call them
and they bring it back down here in
storage
on some of the older beds I had two
calls today I had two of these older
beds there ten sixties there Hill roms I
always get the the bed's not operating
or the hit broke in bed whatever and the
two calls I had today you have a nurse
control panel at the foot of the bed
there's a button for the the knee the
head the high-low up-and-down in total
mode or lockout and a lot of times the
bed comes to me broken it says it's
broken when oh just one of these
controls are turned off so instead of
inconvenience to patient to move the bed
out because you just need to check these
four buttons here and make sure they're
in the on position any questions you all
have feel free to call and I'll be glad
to come up and talk with with anybody
thank you very much
