hi I'm Robert thanks for tuning into my
YouTube video I'm a very handy person
I've been fixing things as far back as I
can remember since I was 9 years old I
fix stuff like sheetrock walls small
appliances computers and the list goes
on and on I even have some formal
training and carpentry and computer
repair so I hope you find this
information useful ok what I'm going to
do here is help you learn how to free up
a garbage disposal the proper way if you
flip the switch on and you hear the
garbage disposal try to turn and it
doesn't it just homes that means it's
locked up for some reason if you haven't
run it in a while
or it's got so much stuff jammed in
there that you got a free it manually so
first thing you do is go under the
bottom of it and try to unlock it also
on the bottom of the garbage disposal
you'll see the rent reset button there
if you flip the switch and you don't
hear the motor running or doesn't turn
this button or normally be popped out
letting you know it's jammed so if you
see that button pumped out first thing
you want to do is push it in to reset it
then try your switch and if it doesn't
work it's still stuck that's when you
get the allen key out and stick it in
the middle of the bottom of the disposal
whenever garbage disposal is installed
it actually comes with a allen key
that's shaped different than this but
the allen key is a quarter-inch key and
typically it's strapped to the garbage
disposal somewhere I couldn't find this
one so I had one in my box now the next
thing you want to do is look at the
bottom of the disposal and in the center
there's a hole so you take the key and
you fit it into that hole and you work
it back and forth until you get it free
so that the garbage disposal is turning
so let me use two hands and get that
garbage pose returning
okay nine times out of ten you can put
the allen key in here and turn this
thing and it'll move one way or another
to get whatever it's jammed in there
loose I couldn't get this one moved I
actually used a little bit of a cheater
breaker bar on it still couldn't get it
moved and I don't want to destroy the
plumbing fittings the drain fittings and
stuff so I'm going to declare this one
locked up by means of being rusted out
on the inside and I'm going to tell the
owner that they have to get a new
disposal now after you put the allen key
in and you move the disposal bottom the
allen key right or left and loosen it up
you pull the key out before you go up
there and hit the switch to see if it
works but this one I think it's DOA
thanks again for watching the video I
