this is the helpful lock-picker here and
welcome back to my lock-picking
homeschool series the video I have for
you today is on how lock bumping works
and how we can open up locks by bumping
them what I have in front of us here is
a cutaway lock with the Schlage SC one
key way ish like SC one bump key and
then regular keys to this lock you can
tell that this lawcast some decent
bidding on it you can see the good ups
and downs and this key in fact opens the
lock quite well and the bump key does
not so how about key works you can turn
any ordinary key into a bump key the
most important thing is is that you have
the spacing right and then what you're
going to want to do is you're going to
want to file down each piece of the
bidding on the key until they're all at
the lowest depth as you can tell on this
bump key here they are all cut down to
the keys lowest depth and then you will
have a working bump key so how about
bumping works is that it is a kinetic
attack as you can tell that this bump
key does not operate this lock but what
you are going to do is pull it back one
notch turn it either clockwise or
counter clockwise and strike it with say
a bump hammer or a screwdriver this is a
bump hammer and you know whatever you
want it really doesn't need to be
anything special and in that split
second it is going to hit those key pins
which will shoot these driver pins up
and out of the way the key pins will
drop back down and then the shear line
will be reached and the plug will turn
you don't always get it on the first try
but you'll be surprised how well bumping
works and how quickly you can get many
common locks open with it the only
tricky thing about bumping vers say
raking is that you need to have a right
key with the right profile to every lock
you're going to want to open and that's
not very practical
if you are trying to open up a variety
of different locks but let's see what it
takes to get this lock open all right so
we're going to try to bump this lock
open
the key works pretty well and has some
pretty decent bidding and hopefully that
won't make a difference in my experience
I've been able to bump open plenty of
locks with decent bidding so the first
step is always making sure your bump key
fits the profile of your key way which
it does and this is a 5 pin bump key and
this lock is only pinned up to 5 so
that's perfectly fine the next step is
to take your bump key
and pull it out one click
as you can see so now you can see that
it is one click out and then you're
going to do light tension where you're
turning either to the left it to the
right and then you're going to hit it
with your bump hammer and hit it nice
and hard but just be very careful that
you don't hit yourself and if you aren't
able to get it open just retry and now
you can tell that the lock is open the
plug is turned you can see that the
driver pins are at sheer and I can turn
the plug freely you can't always pull
the bump key out when the lock is open
because if you had a key pin that was
down at the lowest depth it would get
stuck but for me I can take this right
out so that's locked bumping it's pretty
quick very effective on many different
locks and it is quite fun to learn many
people can learn it at a beginner level
very quickly and you'll be surprised how
many locks you can bump open I've bumped
open quick such leg my Schlage Everest I
actually bumped my she like Primus once
luckily it had the correct regional side
bar code Knight that won't always work
on all locks but lock bumping is a
really cool concept and it is a great
tool to have in your arsenal the major
flaw with it is is that
you're gonna need to have a bump key for
every type of key way that you're going
to come into contact with and that could
potentially be a lot of keys where say
raking you know you can use two tools
that will fit many different key ways
but either way thank you guys so much
for checking out this video if you have

or if you just have any bumping stories
or any suggestions on better ways to
bump locks open if you guys enjoyed this
