today I'm going to show you how to pick
a skeleton key lock so in case you've
ever found yourself locked out of a room
inside of your house that uses one of
these instead of having to call a
locksmith or try and break the door down
these few easy steps will help you get
it open the way a skeleton key lock
works is very simple it's not much in
the bottom this is the deadbolt it's
comprised of three very basic pieces
there's a spray show it to you the lever
which is just a basic piece of metal
with a cutout in the center
we're not in the center but off to the
side and the deadbolt which is pretty
much the heaviest piece in the whole
walk a lot of grease on them
all right so let me show you how it
works and you put the key in it makes
contact with two things the lever and
the deadbolt when I turn the key
deadbolt comes out you'll notice you
can't push it back in the reason for
this is the lever as you can see this
brass tab on the deadbolt is being
blocked by this little part of the lever
holding the deadbolt out so when you put
the key in the top of the key
lifts the lever as well as pushes on the
back of the deadbolt that allows it to
pass through and the deadbolt retracts
and this is just a basic single lever
lock there are some other ones that use
more than one lever but for this video
I'm going to show you a single lever one
so do this you're not going to need any
fancy tools just a couple of allen
wrenches typically one small one and one
larger one what you're going to be doing
is using one allen wrench to come
through the keyhole you're going to push
the lever up with it now this difficult
part is holding it up and trying to push
the actually let me lock it first
when you're picking it you're gonna use
one to push the lever up and another one
to maneuver the or not maneuver but move
the deadbolt in so this is gonna be hard
to do when holding the lock but you just
want to hold the lever up I'm actually
not going to be able to I don't have
three hands I'm sorry it's basically you
would use one to get the lever up and
use another one to start moving the
deadbolt in and once you have the
deadbolt in a little bit you can take
the one holding the lever up out because
it will come to rest on top of the
deadbolt then you take another Allen
wrench and just hook the back of the
deadbolt and pull it in that's how you
pick it let me put the cover back on
them let you see the whole process
so like I said one allen wrench you got
to find the lever and once you have it
push it up actually try this yeah
the difficult part is you once you find
it you have to hold that thing up when
you try and put the other allen wrench
in as you see i use the other allen
wrench to push the boat bolt in unlock
the lock let me show you again lock
small allen wrench put it in push the
lever up larger outer edge find the bolt
drop the lever
turn the allen wrench
bulks going in so you can take the one
holding the lever up out just pull back
and that retracts the bowl
