my wife drives a
2015
Buick Verano
I guess they don't make them anymore
and last winter
in December it needed a jump
so a neighbor gave her a jump and
started
all is fine except the radio now is
marked locked
now looking at the dashboard
the radio although I was referred to in
Buicks
language the infotainment system is here
and the information display is here
it's also the video display for the
backup camera up here above that middle
Orange
this had one word displayed said locked
that was referring to the infotainment
system here
so it being a winner and I being in the
hospital
my wife took it to the local
Buick GMC dealer
Stucky in Alton Pennsylvania
and here's the
work that was done
and under a
was a recommendation
and the concern was
that the customer complaint was the
screen says locked
and radio inoperable
they verified the customer
concern
Ed found the radio to be locked
according to this bullet in which I can
find on the web
the only cure was to replace the radio
and for this amount of work they charged
to her 75 dollars
and then they quoted her
total radio replacement cost with tax
of 1352.
a brand new radio 1352.
and this was uh
January of last year
well
today was a nice day so with the help of
a teenager that hangs around here
pretty smart kid
we went out did the following
above the driver's left knee
when she is seated at the steering wheel
accessible by the left hand
is a little fold out compartment
this is the door shown in the open
position
steering wheel would be up here
yeah up here steering column is out here
a little fold out compartment
pulling that door out
reveals the fuse panel
now I'm going to tell you exactly what I
did although I think
some of it is superfluous
with the door open
and me kneeling on the ground so I say
this because I was not in the seat
and her car is keyless so it has a radio
fob
with the fob in the car I reached up and
pushed the start button
if you do that in this car without the
brake being pushed
the card goes into uh
an intermediate stage
sort of like putting a key in auxiliary
the radio would start if it had not been
locked
and with the door open the beep alarm
went on
I pulled out fuse four
everything stopped the beep
whatever
and I waited a minute or so and plugged
fuse four back in
I do not think I had to do that the
reason I'm telling you this is because
I cannot repeat the experiment
didn't even replacing pulling out and
replacing
fuse number four
I did nothing
it took the car out of auxiliary though
and stopped the beeping of the door
I put it back in auxiliary by
touching the start button
without the brake pedal being depressed
and a removed fuse 18.
waited a minute or so plugged it back in
and I did according to this invoice
thirteen hundred fifty two dollars worth
of work
as soon as I plug fuse 18 back in
I did not replace the fuse understand
that
I just took fees 18 out
and replaced it
full
fuse four is labeled infotainment system
fuse 18 is labor infotainment system
I think I could have removed and
replaced fused 18
and that would have fixed the problem
but in order for you to do exactly what
I did
with the door open
nobody in the front seat
I removed and replaced fuse for
then I removed and replaced feast 18.
both times
the car was in the auxiliary position
in other words before I did them
is that my foot in the brake pedal
I pushed the start button
I'll let you make your your own mind
what Stucky and his
thirteen hundred dollar invoice
would have been good for
