this is a 2013 Toyota Camry the the
customer is complaining of the doors
won't lock or unlock with the remote she
has to perform it manually and it ended
up being the door lock actuator I
actually already replaced the driver
side door I'm going to walk through it
with you guys on the passenger side door
and if there are any differences I'll
try my best to describe them alright
first thing we need to do is to remove
some covers to access three three screws
that are holding in the body Pat are the
trim panel to the door there's a plastic
panel here whoops that come up pretty
easy just slide this under there remove
those in a second and last but not least
this whole panel right here right there
get all these out of the way undo these
electrical connectors now you'll see the
screws just screw there in the door
handle and then the screw underneath
where the window control was and then a
screw under the armrest now I will
unscrew those and then we'll get to the
body clips and just work your way around
what you're wanting to do is separate
these clips here from the actual door
and you may have a few clips pop off
like that and the second we'll grab
those and reattach them to the door
panel and let's see let's remove this
little cover here before we get too far
yes a little clip go off right there
we'll just take that and we didn't break
it so we'll just slide it back in there
[Music]
so we've got a little electrical
connector here for the light undo that
to give us a little more more space to
work with just reach in there and press
on that clip and pull it out we're gonna
pull the Randall out panel out you see
the whites there on top and the green is
on the bottom I'm gonna do these and
pulls in the balls all the sockets we
want to unplug this little connector
here that goes to the door lock actuator
and the locking mechanism and we're
gonna peel this down and black guitar
stuff is I guess is extremely sticky and
messy so be your own judge on that one
all right and to remove this we're going
to need to release these three Torx
screws one here here in here and there
is a locking rod in there that we'll
need to kind of snake out I don't think
it's gonna be too big of an issue it
should come out by itself and I'm going
to undo the rail of the track to the
window just to give myself a little more
room in there
you know I'm doing that just lets us
move this window track that's to give us
more room to get the actual mechanism
that is hiding here now that we've got
those screws out
I'll reach back here and just kind of
now we'll go inside and grab the new
unit okay so here we have the older unit
in the new unit what we need to do now
is to get these cables off the old unit
and to put them onto the new unit do
that we'll just pop that out right there
and the lead ball will come out a little
track and for this one here we'll have
to pop it open it's got a little case
covering it and you remove this and lock
it here take it up pull it out the
cyclic passage all right so this is the
old unit I'm gonna put it aside and now
we're going to put the cables into the
new unit go I know to put that in there
in place until aux area
and this one and put the little that
ball in there turn it over and put that
in place all right now this is ready to
go into the door all right now we're
just gonna put this back in place there
is a little rod in there can I see it
right there that little metal rod does
have to slide in to this little bracket
right here but just slide that in there
you should have plenty of room if you
undid the track and it should just
everything should just both right back
up all right so now we're to get that
bar in there I just kind of put one
screw in there to hold it pull it and
hold it up well I kind of worked the
mechanism around on the inside and pull
that lever down and place the bar inside
our on the track and just let it up in
there so now I'm going to put in all the
other screws and wrap this thing up okay
after we've got that on there it's
basically just cleaning everything up
and putting it back together I'm gonna
go ahead and test the door real quick
you want to plug the connector up and
shut the door right now we'll lock the
door all right
so are our doors working just remember
the white is on the top and the green is
on the bottom and don't forget you
little bulb down here to connect back
and then you've got two connectors to go
into the window trim and door lock all
right guys just put everything back
together and you should be good to go
all right hope this helps you out good
luck okay I know this isn't the same
vehicle but I want to walk you through
the process for replacing the driver
side door seeing as there's only one
minor difference and this is the driver
side locking mechanism you'll notice
that on the back side there is this
little cross shaped piece that is not on
the passenger side door you're saying
this one is blank and that is because on
the driver side you have to take in
account for the lock cylinder and when
you are ready to put the locking
mechanism back on you will need to
loosen this up to where you can pull
this out some put the new lock cylinder
or I'm sorry put the new lock mechanism
into the door and then tighten this back
up that way there will be a little metal
rod on the back into the lock cylinder
that way this will already be in place
and you'll be putting that rod into
place while this is already in place and
what it is on the Camry where this
little red sticker is there will be a
black rubber grommet fill that rubber
grommet off and there will be a Torx
screw back behind there loosen that
screw up and this this whole piece right
here should pull out and then that's
when you'll put the new mechanism in
tighten that everything up down here
reinstall the lock cylinder and tighten
it back up plug it up and that should be
the only difference on the driver side
door
