alert barking this is the kind of
barking that happens when the doorbell
rings or when the mailman is approaching
alert barking is really the reason why
people actually brought dogs into their
lives in their homes so many years ago
because their ears are so sensitive that
they can hear things when they're
approaching and you know give us a
warning so alert our being in a sense is
actually a good thing personally I love
it I love the fact that my dog does
alert barking that he lets me know when
someone is out there that I don't know
about at the same time you can get
rather annoying if you can't get it to
stop so alert barking is essentially a
warning bark it's letting you know
that's something you know the dog is
saying hey something's not right all
right
how do we stop it well here's thing with
a work barking before we teach the dog
to stop alert barking we're actually
going to put the barking on a command so
we're going to teach the dog to bark at
the same time we teach them to be quiet
so first you're going to want to do is
pick a word pick a word that means a you
know free dog to bark I use alert you
can say bark you can say you know wolf
you can use whatever you want it it
doesn't matter you could say blue you
could say you know chalk or you could
say it's your friend you can say
whatever you want it's just a sound that
we're kind of we're going to teach the
dog means do this action which is bark
okay I use learn so here's what happens
uh we do something that we can you know
trigger and practice by getting the dog
to bark I'm going to use the doorbells
an example because that's very common or
knocking it's very common that many dogs
bark at the doorbell or at the knocking
I know my dog does so I would go inside
and be inside with my dog I have
somebody on the outside ring the
doorbell doorbell rings my dog starts to
bark bark proper proper book I say max
alert and he's back
max alert bar he Spartan going crazy
then what I'm going to do while in
sparking I'm going to take a very good
smelly treat and the treat in my hand is
going to go right down in front of those
nose and I'm going to hold it there
alright and then that's when the magic
happens because dogs can't bark and snug
at the same time don't ask me why I
don't be actually humans can do either
take a chance take a second try to try
to barking inhale you can't do it just
you're physically it doesn't work so
because I have a treat that's much more
exciting than barking he's automatic in
a stop barking and that is when I say
the word white or you can say whatever
you want
you know shush so I say alert and I say
white and then we repeat someone's on
the outside
my name is a doorbell the dog starts to
bark bark max alert alert I get a treat
quiet now here is the key with treat
Goes Down and you put it in the front of
his nose you have to wait for two
seconds okay
that is critical wait a minimum for two
seconds of quiet then you say the word
and then you give him the treat okay and
then the treat comes after after the
word all right
so bring the doorbell buck alert bark
bark bark bark bark tree bark bark bark
bark bark bark
quiet any there you go
alright and then it takes practice then
you practice this and you do this then
in real situations the next time the
doorbell rings for real because it's the
UPS VN or the mailman the dogs barking
good boy alert buck buck buck trinkles
down sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff
quiet ok and you do this for you know a
couple of weeks two to three weeks and
then you're going to test it you're
going to test it once when your dog is
just you know hanging out with you look
at him and say dog and your word alert
bark woof and see if he doesn't if he
does it then that means he's gotten that
part down so then while he's barking try
the quiet word and you couldn't use when
American and quiet shush enough right
and if he gets it great then test it out
in the real world next time that the
doorbell rings and he's barking you
don't say where you just simply say
quiet and see what happens see if he
stops barking if he does great you give
him a treat rewarded London oh that's
good that's what they wanted and you
continually reinforce that if he doesn't
do it then you just need to practice
some more we just go back to the same
theme of practicing the barking on
command and practicing treat go in front
of his nose he smells it for two to
three seconds and then we say quiet then
give it a couple more weeks and then
test it again don't usually pick up on
this pretty quickly because like I said
you know treats are a much higher value
than you know the fun of barking okay so
half in a work barking now eventually
you can use alert barking you know
outside for sometimes it can help with
aggression issues if you're having leash
aggression or least reactivity teaching
your dog of the quiet command is very
useful so just have some other
applications you know mice just stop
barking at the mailman stop barking I
hear a bell friend in the car your dogs
aggressive in the car Oh quiet commands
noise so you can use it definitely some
other play
right okay so that's a look barking and
the bark on command and stop barking on
community it's exactly what it sounds
like your dog is barking because he is
poor and if your dog gets bored the only
person we have double hang is ourselves
so if you have a dog crew
