if you have a cat
you may notice he or she loves to jump
climb and chill on tables
curtains counters and other pieces of
furniture your cat doesn't have any ill
intentions when he does this
your cat is just like any other creature
in the sense that it just wants to learn
and explore the environments around them
but from your perspective you don't want
your precious cat getting hurt by
jumping onto an unstable platform or
getting tangled up somewhere
on top of that you also don't want your
beautiful pieces of furniture to get
ruined
we understand the dilemma that a lot of
cat owners have and that's why we're
here to share four ways to stop cats
from climbing on unwanted places
but before we begin don't forget to like
and subscribe
the first method is to actively
discourage your cat from climbing
designated areas
you really don't want to reward bad
habits and punish good behavior
if your kitten often finds food on the
counter make sure you remove all the
food
if your kitten jumps on unwanted places
you must be ready to remove her gently
cats can be stubborn but you have to be
willing to do this numerous times
the key here is to be repetitive and
make sure you don't scold or startle her
because she might start associating you
with the noise or sudden motion
just pick her up gently without cuddling
her or rewarding her with any type of
attention
and move her to a different location
next
you can try creating an alternative
climbing zone you can easily purchase a
catchery
a cat house wall shelves or even a
window perch
it's no secret cats love heights so
purchasing an elevated spot might be
worth the investments
but make sure you place these alternate
climbing zones strategically
you can even place treats near or on
these spots so she can feel rewarded for
her actions
the third option is to remove all
launching pads
in order for the strategy to work you
must take time to examine
the route your cat takes to his or her
destination
you might notice your cat needs to climb
on a chair first in order to leap across
the shelf
that's what my cat amy does after that
the most logical step is to remove the
launching pad in my case
i really need to remove that freaking
chair asap
without a launching pad it will be more
difficult for a cat to climb on
dangerous furniture
last but not least you can always use
repellents
aluminum foil can be an effective
substance because it creates a texture
and sound that's unpleasant for cats
another one is double-sided sticky tape
because it's a sticky platform that your
cat wouldn't like to step
on also you can use lemon and orange
peels or
any other type of citrus fruit peels
which can be effective for a few hours
the urge for your cat to jump around and
explore is only natural
it's really similar to how little kids
love to be adventurous
at the end of the day this all boils
down to curiosity
our job as cat lovers is not to kill
that curiosity
but to rather create a safe and secure
atmosphere for our beloved pets
