little dirty then this video is for you
[Music]
hey my name is debbie and welcome to
trying remote which is a video series
where i try out a new remote job or gig
every single month and become your
guinea pig to show you if it's something
that you may be interested in doing so
sit back relax and find out the best
gigs online that you can do from the
comfort of your home
today is our second episode from our
series of flipping furniture last
episode we talked about
why it is a great side gig for you to do
especially if you don't have a lot of
money or experience
i shared with you my experience from
furniture flipping and now i made
200
from trash yes you heard me right i said
200
from trash just by going online
and
selling furniture now if you actually do
this several times a month you may be
getting way more than 200 or you may be
getting less it really depends on how
hard your work and how persistent you
are because like with anything else it
is all about trying and testing them out
so today we're going to talk about the
five trusted websites where you can
start selling your furniture online the
first site that i will be
sharing with you is facebook market many
of you may have heard of facebook if you
haven't then you probably have been
living under a rock
so since you're here you probably
know facebook
hopefully so facebook market is just an
extension of facebook where you can
actually go in there list items that you
have maybe it's already in your home it
could be furniture it could be books it
could be clothing whatever it is that
you have
somebody will try to buy it from you
hopefully
so this is the actual marketplace that i
listed the furniture that i found on
somebody's curb
cleaned it up and sold it for 200.
it took me about a month to
get a buyer for the furniture that i
sold again
it depends how long it can take it
depends on the market it depends on the
location that you have it really depends
when the buyer comes online and sees the
products that you want so i can't really
guarantee when you're going to sell it
and make money from your furniture but
what i love about facebook market is
that first of all it's free
second of all it is a lot more for me at
least safer than for example an online
marketplace like craigslist where
there's really no profiles you can't
really see who that person is and you
don't know who you're talking to so
facebook market is a lot better than a
place like craigslist but again you
still have to do your due diligence
when you are trying to sell something
when it's an exchange of money when it's
an exchange of goods because you don't
want to be
led into a spot where you don't want to
be in and deal with a scammer so a few
things that i did notice when i was
listing on facebook and i did encounter
some scammers in there and i wanted to
pinpoint this out to you the first thing
that i noticed
is that there will be people who will
reach out to you from an invalid profile
so what i mean by that is they will
actually send you a message and their
profile has no images they'll send you
um a message stating something like hey
i'm really interested in the product
that you're selling text me here and
we'll do the transaction outside of
if you see that run
don't even bother to message them back
because first of all that's just really
shady if it's already shady in the
beginning it's going to be shady after
so
that is one of the first warning signs
for you to not even go forward with that
um the next thing is
the reason why you don't want to do that
you don't want to do a transaction
outside of facebook facebook messenger
all of that is because once you get out
of the messenger and the facebook
platform if anything does happen then
facebook can't really see what's going
on so they can't back you up if the
person did actually scam you right
because you don't you didn't do the
transaction on their platform so they
don't have receipts for it so you always
want to have receipts in terms of your
messaging your interaction with that
person so that's why you always have to
do it on the facebook marketplace
platform all of the
agreements that you have and so forth
the next thing is
one of the things about facebook market
is that you do have to obviously either
deliver the items to the person or they
come to you and get it i always
recommend for you to always do it with
somebody else always someone always has
to come with you you do it in a public
place
you never want to do this just by
yourself just for safety measures so
always look at that
and yeah i i really believe that
facebook for the most part there's
legit people there i have used it to buy
things i have used it to sell that
furniture that i sold um i've had really
good experiences but again do your due
diligence
now the next platform that i'm going to
recommend to you is etsy so a few things
that you can sell on etsy is a vintage
item it could be vintage clothing it
could be handmade items that you make
yourself or it could be flipped
furniture so as long as it goes into
that handmade vintage working with your
hands kind of stuff etsy is that
platform right it's the best platform
for that the one thing that etsy does it
does take um a fee
and what it does is it takes a 20 cent
fee every time you list an item
and it actually also takes a five
percent fee after you sell an item now
the great thing about etsy it's
definitely worth it to pay for their
services because it is a company where
they do look at
the buyers there so it's much more safer
than facebook market and craigslist and
things like that so that's why i
recommend
this platform for you the next platform
that is another great one to sell your
flipped furniture is called offer up
what i love about offer up is that it is
similar to facebook market in the sense
that you don't have to pay for listing
or selling your items so that's a really
great plus because then you get all of
your profits it's a hundred percent
yours now they do offer
a promotion or they call it promote plus
where you can pay per use for their
future meaning that they will promote
the items for you so that more people
can see them so if you do wanna
put a little bit of cash in there to
promote the item you really want to sell
it maybe it's something that is a
business for you then that could be
something that you can think about of
doing
um and again it's similar to facebook
market it's free to use you find people
locally and then you can just exchange
the goods you can buy and sell there
now the next platform that i do want to
talk about is ebay now i'm sure a lot of
you have heard of ebay it's been around
for a very long time
it is a
fee service so you will have to pay a
fee for listing an item and also selling
the item but ebay typically
uh charges you depending on what the
item is the category so they have
different ways of charging you for the
items that you're selling so whatever it
is um that you are trying to let go then
they're going to see how much it is what
the category is and then it really
depends on that so you have to go online
start your listing and then see at the
end how much they're going to charge so
that's really what the big difference is
with ebay again ebay is typically known
for things that are used uh vintage
people go there to find unique items
which is really great that's why
when you sell your flipped furniture
there especially if it's a unique used
and vintage item you'll find a lot of
really interested
customers on that platform and that's
why i love it i've used it
several times and you can get some
really great uh clients and customers
and also items if you want to buy things
there as well and lastly i still would
recommend craigslist i know i
bashed a little bit in the beginning but
i still go to craigslist yes i know it's
not year 2000 but you can still get some
good things on craigslist i've even gone
there to look at some free furniture or
free items that people want to let go of
but it's also a great place to list your
flipped furniture similar to offer up
and facebook market is free to list your
items there and the transaction is also
going to be free
so it's pretty awesome except for the
fact that there are more chances to get
scammed this is really why
many people are kind of wary of
craigslist because there are a lot of
scammers there so you have to again do
your due diligence but i honestly would
recommend this to every platform whether
it's craigslist facebook market offer up
ebay whatever platform that you're using
you always have to make sure that you
are not dealing with a scammer so
if it seems too good to be true or if
there's some red flags happening just
trust your instincts and maybe back off
um
because
we don't want to get too excited that
we end up getting scammed we end up
losing money
and or an item that we really love and
we don't want that to happen
so again make sure your due diligence
seeing if that person is legit
that you know that what they are
offering you
is real they're not trying to get any
personal information from you so that's
really big thing if they're starting to
ask you for really personal things make
sure you back off because you know that
ain't legit so once you have decided on
the platform
that you are going to list your flipped
furniture it is time to include your
listing which means you have to write it
take photographs of it and make it nice
and wrap it in a bow tie
and send it off into the
interwebs as they say
so that you can find the right clients
for it and we will talk about that on
the next episode next week where i share
with you how to start your listing on
these different marketplaces and
platforms so that you can start selling
your flipped furniture make some profit
and create some extra income while you
work from home or really from anywhere i
hope you enjoyed this episode i am
