a lot of people are surprised to find
that it is definitely possible to make a
living off of selling slime alone

today i am doing a video that has been
highly requested a lot of y'all have
been asking for
slime shop advice or just how to
start a slime shop like tips and tricks
so i'm going to be exposing all of my
secrets today
and steps i think are very important
when
starting a slime shop you could make a
living off of this i have been making
this
my living and doing it full time since
2017
so that has been quite a long time um
so i know a thing or two when it comes
to starting a slime shop
all of these steps are fairly easy and
anybody can do them so
let's get started shall we okay so you
decided you want to start a slime shop
where do you even begin i will tell you
where to begin
the first thing that i would suggest
doing is taking a look at your branding
come up with a name which is very
important every slime shop you know has
to have a name so that people know
you know where your slime came from
things like that so make sure you come
up with a name
and make it something fun coming up with
your branding and
a name color scheme for your logo things
like that that is going to be pretty
difficult at least it was for me
so make sure you have fun with it once
you have named your shop and you've come
up with a logo and color scheme
it is time to head to social media there
are tons of social media platforms as
you well may know and i highly suggest
that you get on each and every one of
them
because you never know you could take
off on facebook instead of instagram or
you could take off on tick tock instead
of youtube like it just depends
but you will find an audience somewhere
something really important when it comes
to social media branding try to keep all
of your usernames on every single
platform the same if possible
obviously if your username is already
taken i would suggest just adding
something to it like unicorn slime shop
if that was taken
i would do unicorn slime shop official
or the real unicorn slime shop or
unicorn slime shop something else i
highly suggest that you check out tiktok
and get on the platform as soon as
possible
small businesses on tick tock are
booming because so many people
are on the platform right now people
watch tick tock day and night i know you
do
i know i do that's for sure small
businesses are really out here thriving
because of tick tock and it's great
you're going to find people who want to
purchase your products that way
okay so now that you're done with
branding it is time to purchase some
items to start making your products
i highly highly highly recommend that
you shop
a lot of places before you actually
purchase your products
so if that means going to amazon first
before you head over to walmart or
target
make sure you do so because some of the
products might be cheaper at amazon
some of them might be cheaper at walmart
or target you may even be able to find
some things when you're starting off at
the dollar tree
as well or maybe like a dollar general
or 99 cent store so i recommend
kind of taking a field trip around your
city if possible going to different
stores and seeing
which stores have items that are cheaper
for you
also make sure you check on amazon like
i said and you're going to want to look
for things like glue
you're going to want to look for add-ins
like glitters maybe even
some polymer sprinkles if you can find
that i know michael's has those now
a lot of places actually carry foam
beads now as well so you can check
at walmart michaels and i believe hobby
lobby will also have foam beads as well
make sure that when you're out shopping
you have in mind the type of slimes that
you're wanting to make that way you
basically know what ingredients you will
need if you want to make a floam
obviously you're gonna need glue and
some foam beads of course you're gonna
need borax as well to activate any type
of slime that one
i usually find the cheapest either at
amazon or walmart
what i like to do is keep notes in my
phone on the
notes app and i will put down like a
list of things that i will need for a
particular slime that way i can go ahead
and purchase those items and i will also
do a checklist so that when i actually
purchase the item i can check it off my
list and i won't purchase it twice
glue is obviously very important when it
comes to a slime shop because you kind
of need glue to make your slime
i highly suggest that you check out
walmart amazon
and michaels for the cheapest glue they
kind of vary so you just want to make
sure you constantly watch all three of
those sellers you can get michael's
white glue for i believe the cheapest
i've gotten it for
was 10.99 and that's when it's on sale
elmer's glue is usually about 10.80
at walmart but they don't always have it
so i like to
always check however i normally just go
ahead and get this
or i also get the amazon school glue
which usually comes out too i want to
say like 11
50 maybe 11 and some change um
for their school glue if you want a
thicker glue you can try the elmer's
glue wall
that one will run you about 17 to 18
on amazon that's the cheapest place to
get that one i've never seen it any
cheaper in any store you can find it at
home depot you can find it at michael's
but it's normally like 24 or like 30
bucks they like
make the price a lot higher and clear
glue is going to be all a matter of
preference now the clear glue gallons
you might find some that have a
tint to it so while you may find clear
glue
gallons at walmart um it will be the
elmer's clear glue
normally and that one will run you about
twenty dollars and
it's not that great because it does have
like a yellowish tint
to it so if you want a crystal clear
slime that's not the one you go with i
recommend going with the amazon
clear glue gallon that one is a little
bit more expensive i want to say it's
maybe like 19 or 20 dollars sometimes
um but that one's clear or you can get
the clear glue from
michael's now this one here usually will
run you anywhere between 12 to 14
depending on how good the cell is
this one does have a little bit of a
yellowish tint to it but it's not
as yellow as the elmer's gallon so you
will still be able to get somewhat of a
clear slime out of this but if you're
going to add
add-ins and things with color food
coloring or
watercolors things like that a food gel
um this is a perfect option it's the
cheapest glue and it works just like all
the rest of them i
am like forever stocking these places
and their glue section i bet people
think i am insane
but uh you want to make sure that you
get the good price even if your shop is
you know
established already and you're making
sales you still want to make sure that
you're getting the most bang out of your
buck you know what i'm saying
you are also going to need some
containers to sell your slime in there
is a ton of places that you can get
slime containers from
i will link them all here on the screen
um so that you can go ahead and check
them out i personally use
berlin or i use to raw plastics if i'm
not mistaken
is what their name is but i used to use
places like uline
and just like random places i could find
as well sometimes you can even find
containers on amazon
um it's all a matter of preference
whatever containers you like
use those now is the fun part okay you
have
all of your supplies to make the slime
now it is time
to prototype basically this means to
come up with a slime experiment with
different textures and recipes and come
up with your own
slime now you definitely don't want to
skip this step and i know some of you
may be thinking that it might be a waste
of money to make this slime and not
sell it but you're going to want to keep
a personal batch for yourself that way
you can test the texture out yourself
and also you can see how long your
product will last see if anything
happens to it i mean
slime is something that we make out of
random ingredients and sometimes
some ingredients that you add in won't
fully mix into the slime or it will
start to separate you also want to make
sure there's no molding because
obviously this is kind of like a damp
product that you're selling so you're
going to make sure that nothing is
growing on there
and also you want to make sure that you
test the ingredients that you add into
it maybe something will like separate
out of the slime a lot of times like
different types of baby oil
will actually separate um out of the
slime over time so you're going to want
to like
make sure that you're choosing the right
brand of products to put into your slime
the only way to do that unfortunately
is to test it and it is going to cost a
little bit of money
but as they say you got to spend a
little money to make a little money
so just make sure you test out your
products make your prototypes and
they won't actually go to waste because
you can actually film them for your
social medias
make some tick tocks about them do some
instagram videos promote photos and
videos on facebook
also start a youtube channel you can
start a youtube channel doing the very
same thing that i am doing here
and you can make slime on youtube live
you can make it you know for a video
just you know restocking your slime shop
they definitely will not go to waste
because you can use them in so many ways
not only for videos but for photos as
well to promote your shop also don't
forget i have a bunch of tutorials and
recipes on my channel that you can check
out for free
i've never been one to hide any of my
techniques or have any secret
ingredients so i'm an open book
all right now that you're happy with a
couple of recipes and you have some
slimes that you want to sell
it is time to think about packaging now
packaging your slime is very important
because you want to make sure that you
get into your customers
damage free you want to make sure
they're getting exactly what they are
purchasing
as well so you're going to want to do
this
step here which i think is very
important now this is something i did
when i first started but you're going to
want to purchase from your competitors
and i know what you're thinking
again this is more money that you have
to let go of but like i said you have to
spend money
to make money unfortunately that's just
how it goes
now you want to basically look at
everything once you purchase from these
sellers and you get your items look at
how they package it did it come in a box
did it come in a bubble mailer
did it come bubble wrapped so you're
going to want to take notes of all of
that and of course
you're going to want to purchase all
that as well also this is the time where
i would suggest investing in a little
scale you can use a food scale or you
can get like something bigger as
well to weigh your products because
you're going to need to weigh your
products in order to tell the post
office how much it is
so that you can ship it out a lot of
shops have different ways to
pack their orders a lot of people pack
their orders by boxes only like they
only do boxes
some shops are like me where they do a
mixture so if you order like one slime
or two slimes you get in an envelope
and if you order anything over two
slimes then you will get it in a box i
like to do that just to ensure
everything is as cheap as possible for
my customer because
boxes are a little bit more expensive
sometimes than bubble mailers so i like
to keep the cost as low as possible
while still making sure that everything
is being shipped safely so i have two
envelopes here i have them
um facing the back that way you can't
see the labels that are on there because
it has my customers addresses
but if you order one slime from my shop
you get it in a single mailer here
this is a bubble mailer and i also
bubble wrap it on top of that
just to make sure that there's added
safety this order here
is for two slimes and this one got a
bigger envelope from the post office
these are actually free
you can get them from your local post
office you can go to the usps.com
and get a bunch of them i literally
order hundreds of these when i order and
they are free
boxes as well those are free as well
from the united states postal service
and
there are many different sizes you can
choose from i
like to have three different sizes just
depending so we have
orders of three slimes here maybe if we
can fit more we put that in there as
well
orders of four plus can also go in here
and then for larger orders we have a
bigger box as well
um and like i said they're free so it
helps you save money that way and you're
also
providing the postal service with
business another thing that can be
included in your packaging
is something like extras now i like to
give this little packet here i'm going
to give you a close-up
this here is a packet of borax it also
has my business card and some candy in
there just to say thank you
and of course there's this little thank
you sticker on here as well it basically
just says thank you i hope you love your
purchase please come back again and it
has my instagram handle on there so they
know where to go back to
adding extras is definitely not required
but i think it's just an extra personal
touch that you can give to your
customers
just to kind of get back and say thank
you for supporting my business now that
you know how you're gonna get your
products from point a to point b
it is time to choose a selling platform
now there are many
selling platforms out there the ones
that i personally have experience
in is etsy and shopify now i used to
sell one etsy back in 2016 and 20 or
2017
2018 actually and then um in the middle
of 2018 i actually switched to shopify
which basically allows me to have my own
website
now this video is not sponsored
whatsoever like i'm giving you my honest
opinions on
basically everything i'm talking about i
find that etsy is a really great place
to start with so if you're just barely
starting out
you can definitely choose etsy as a
platform and i like it for a bunch of
different reasons first off
and one of the main reasons and i think
a lot of people don't really understand
this sometimes but etsy is almost like
its own social media platform
and it's really cool because you can
search things on the search bar and
it'll pop up and you can purchase it
right away you know what i'm saying
with a website people actually have to
search for your website first and then
they have to search for the products
that they want to buy
this one it's like one and done which
makes it a little bit easier for you to
make a sale a lot of the times you can
also get ads on etsy and
people who might not even necessarily be
looking for your product
can stumble upon your product and find
it interesting and may want to purchase
it now with both etsy and shopify there
are fees of course that you have to
pay for when you're selling with these
platforms like i said i don't sell with
etsy anymore but
if i recall correctly there was a
transaction fee
and a listing fee for etsy so anytime
you upload a product to your etsy shop
you get charged a fee
and then also when you make a sale you
get charged a percentage of that
sale as well now with shopify it's a
little bit different so with shopify i
believe i spend about eighty dollars a
month
for the platform but i have a fully
customizable website and i also have to
pay 14
a year i believe for my domain which is
basically my www.unicornslime.com
i pay 14 a year for that which is not
too bad
and then there is also a credit card
transaction fee so if somebody pays with
a credit card
there may be a transaction fee and that
just depends on what type of plan you
choose for shopify
so again a lot of this stuff may not
apply to you if you choose a different
option than i chose
um but there are definitely fees with
both selling platforms it's just
a matter of preference really i would
highly suggest you just like compare
both of them compare and contrast
and see which one would be better for
you okay now that you have chosen a
selling platform it is time for you
to upload your products to sell and find
out what you're going to price them at
this could be kind of hard but what you
want to do is you want to make sure
you add up every single thing that you
have purchased so far
for your shop and you want to kind of
divide it by
your inventory basically so let's say
you spent a hundred dollars total and
let's just say to start you're gonna
sell
10 products or 10 slimes you're going to
want to take that 100
and divide it by 10 which is going to
equal 10 of course
and that is how much you're going to
need to sell your slime
to at least break even that is just to
get the money that you already invested
back to yourself now of course you're
going to want to take into consideration
how long it takes you to make the slime
also shipping costs things like that
extra things that you don't really think
about
so instead of selling your slime for the
ten dollars you might want to sell it
for 11 or 12 dollars
just so that you can also make a profit
and continue to
do this and to continue to upkeep your
business so again
taking into consideration everything
that you're buying total and dividing
that by the number of products that you
have
that is going to only help you break
even so you're just going to get that
money back
but of course like i said to maintain
your business you're going to want to
make some type of profit
as well as it be worth your time okay
now you know what products you're going
to sell
you know how much you're going to sell
them for it is time to
upload them to your selling platform
this is super important you're going to
want to make sure you take really good
high quality photos of all of your
products
you also want to make sure that you
include a couple of really important
things
under the product description like how
many ounces is your slime
what color is the slime you're going to
want to let them know if it's scented as
well
also it's good practice as well to let
people know what is going to be included
in their package if they order that
slime so i like to include in each
product listing that every single order
comes with some borax activator solution
to help their slimes if they're sticky
and also some candy as extras you can
also go as far as to let them
know how long your shipping process
takes so if it takes one or two
businesses you can put that down at the
bottom also another great thing to
include at the bottom is any type of
like policies or procedures that you
have when it comes to your slime
another great thing to add to your
product listing at the very very bottom
is what i do i like to include my
product policies now we are selling
slime here and slime isn't something
that can be
exchanged or returned so i like to note
that down in the description
and i also let them know that while i do
not accept cancellations refunds or
exchanges i will definitely
uh try to help you as much as possible
with your experience when it comes to my
slime something like that so you're
letting them know that you will not
exchange the slime for them you will not
return it things like that but if
there's an issue you are going to help
them fix it now every shop is going to
be different when it comes to that some
people will exchange the slime and maybe
just like throw away the slime but that
is a waste of money so i wouldn't
recommend doing that
um but i would recommend um you know
trying to help your customer as much as
possible
so that they are happy now is another
fun part you have all of your products
listed it is time
to promote the heck out of yourself and
your slimes now go on tik tok
upload a video showing all of the slimes
that you just restocked in your shop
let them know it's your grand opening
maybe even for the first grand opening
have like
somewhat of a sale like maybe 10 off um
just so that you can get people enticed
to come to your shop head on over to
youtube and do a restocking video and
show them what slimes are in your shop
let them know what texture what scent
and how you made it if possible as well
people love behind the scenes that's why
i love doing as well
the restocker me videos and i also do
restock with me videos like mini clips
on my tic toc as well head on over to
facebook and upload all of your product
images and let them know how much they
cost and of course make sure you try and
include a link to your shop wherever
possible
a lot of people are surprised to find
that it is definitely
possible to make a living off of selling
slime alone
and you don't have to have a hundred
thousand subscribers
or 100 000 followers anywhere you can do
it with
20 000 subscribers 10 000 some people
are even doing it with 5 000 subscribers
i have a lot of friends who are probably
under the
10 000 follower mark on instagram who
sometimes sell out of their restock
almost every single restock and they
have
loyal customers who keep coming back for
more because their products are great
and they're promoting themselves on
these platforms
it is definitely possible it's just
going to take a little bit of patience
and a lot of promoting yourself
but that is what social media is for
nowadays and make sure you use it to
your advantage
let all of your friends and family know
let them know to share it to people who
they think might be interested
slime is not just for kids and a lot of
people don't understand that at first
until they get their hands on it and
then they come back
wanting more my grandma loves slime her
sisters love slime
i've met people who use slime as a form
of therapy for like arthritis in their
hands people
use it to just be happy and you know
just because they love it it's like
collecting
random things like beanie babies or
squish mellows you know slime is
literally marketable to anyone
so just follow these steps here and i
will guarantee you that you will be able
to start a successful slimestop alrighty
all that is pretty much it for today's
