in today's video i'm going to be telling
you guys how to start a cosmetic
business
and all of the things that i feel like
you should know before you start your
cosmetic business

cosmetic brand and you want to know more
about starting a cosmetic brand and the
things that go into it behind the scenes
just keep on watching i got a couple of
tips and i'm going to be sharing with
you guys

okay so tip number one first and
foremost the first thing that you want
to do is decide what it is that you
actually want to sell
so if you're starting a cosmetic brand
you might want to sell
makeup lip gloss body butters you know
body scrubs things like that any type of
skin care product that you want to sell
decide exactly what products you're
going to be selling and what the
benefits of those products are going to
be
so for example if you know somebody who
experiences acne and has dark marks or
you're trying to treat eczema
and you want to create products that
will specifically help you to clear
those things
up then i will start and write down a
list of all the products that you want
to actually sell related to that
benefit that you're trying to give the
customer if that makes sense so
for me i'm trying to make skincare
products that's going to help a boss pay
to grow and glow so
i started with making a body scrub and a
body butter
and then it was all from there it's
really easy to
get wrapped up in oh i need to have a
body butter oh i need to have a scrub to
go with it oh i need to have
a lip balm oh i need to have you know
lip gloss no what you should do first
and what i recommend doing what i should
have done is determine what the benefit
of the products that you're trying to
sell is going to be
that way it's easier to actually come up
with the product ingredients
and actually formulate the product later
down the line honestly this is probably
the toughest part of starting a cosmetic
business so this is why i say it's tip
number one
if you are interested in selling
cosmetics you might want to start doing
research on different ingredients
and the benefits that they will give to
you so if you want to use all natural
ingredients
then start looking up natural
ingredients if you want to use only
vegan cruelty-free ingredients
start looking up ingredients that are
vegan and cruelty free so that when it's
time to come up with the products you
know exactly what is going into the
product
and you're able to communicate that to
the customer
this is very crucial to this tip number
one you guys make sure that you keep
like a notebook or if you're writing
notes on your phone while you're doing
your planning
make sure that you write everything down
because it'll come easier
when it's actually time to do things
like pricier products determine how
you're going to market your products
come up with product names
write down descriptions on your website
things like that so
if you have a note like just get a
notebook from the dollar tree or
something like that
and write down everything that you plan
out so that later you're gonna have all
your stuff lined up in a row you already
gonna know what you're doing
how you want to do it and when it's time
to start selling you'll start making
money faster

tip number two is definitely going to be
to determine a budget that you want to
have set in place
before you plan your business so with me
i didn't necessarily have a budget in
mind but i'm recommending you guys do
start with the budget so that shopping
for inventory
shopping for all the supplies that is
going to come with this starting a new
business
you want to know exactly what your money
is going to be going into because
you don't want to overspend or under
spend so
i think i spent about six hundred
dollars when i very first started that
was my very first time
investing a large lump sum of money
however i was not really sure what i was
spending my money on
so i would do something like take a
journal like i said before
write down okay i have two hundred
dollars to spend what can i get with
these two hundred dollars so that i can
start my business efficiently and
effectively so
if you got two hundred dollars to be
honest with you there's a couple
different vendors that i've
um showed you guys on the channel before
you can go ahead and shop for your jars
your containers
your packaging supplies anything that
you're going to need to your labels
anything that you're going to need to
get your business up and running fast
you can go ahead and shop for those
things but you want to write down
exactly what you want to spend
and what you want to spend it on so that
money doesn't seem like
it's just flying out your wallet and you
don't know what exactly your money is
all going to
because things going to start adding up
real quick i'm not going to lie to you
you're going to have to put a little bit
of money
but if you know what money you have
already to put out it's not going to
feel like so much of a burden when all
those totals start coming back to you so
definitely have a budget in place
so for example right here you guys see
me using
white shipping boxes i'm using crinkle
paper
i'm using tape i'm using the ink pen i
have a printer
you know there's so many different
things that go into running a business
and just because it's a cosmetic
business
doesn't mean that you're not going to
need the basic things like a printer
ink paper scissors tape you know
wrapping paper bubble wrap all those
little minor things that you feel like
okay well i can just get that that stuff
should go right into the budget plan and
when you start getting jars
and bigger inventory that stuff
obviously is going to cost the bulk of
the money
but these little things matter too so
make sure that you incorporate
everything that you need if you need to
go back and watch some of my inventory
hauls on the channel
i didn't start with a whole lot of
inventory but i do feel like i started
with enough to actually get me up and
running
and be able to start rosebud cosmetics
so i'll go ahead and link one of those
videos up here for you guys
if you are trying to start a lip gloss
business i've seen other successful
entrepreneurs starting a lip gloss
business with literally just a hundred
dollars
so you can take a hundred dollars and
you can start selling lip gloss and
there's
there's more than one way that you can
effectively promote and market a product
without having so much inventory on hand
so
whatever money you have take it from me
it doesn't have to be a large lump sum
but it does need to be spent on the
right things because like i said before
you don't want to waste money
getting more more of something than you
actually need at that time so
that's why the journal is necessary and
actually having a budget in mind is very
very necessary

number three is probably my favorite
thing to advise my clients
anybody who you know is interested in
starting a cosmetic brand
i definitely recommend picking five
products that you want to start selling
okay
with me i only started with two and i'm
just be honest with y'all that is not
enough
you cannot start a cosmetic brand with
just two products
nor should you start with trying to sell
20 products because it's too many and
there's that's too little
so with me i only had two products and i
feel like that was just not enough
my customers don't have enough of a
variety to shop for
and i would i just wasn't very prepared
y'all like i kind of rushed into this
which is why i'm telling y'all
to take your time doing it if you have
five different products
let me just say for example hair growth
oil a soap
a body scrub a lip scrub and then a
deodorant so that's five different types
of products that your customer could
probably shop for
you don't want to start and sell 15
products because
that's too large of a number to start
with your money is going to be
going out the door so quickly and you're
going to have a hard time actually
getting all the products made i don't
say do
more than five products to start but i
do recommend having five of each product
actually in stock on your website
so like i said if you have a hair growth
oil deodorant
body scrub make sure that you have at
least five of every one of those
products in stock
for your launch day so that i mean we
manifest and sell our situations for all
the boss babes so
if you launched and then you only have
two of each of stock like
you're gonna sell out really really
quickly but if you have five you have
opportunity to sell on that launch date
and to continue selling if you don't
actually sell out
so that's why i recommend having five
and keep in mind that you're not going
to only have five products forever like
we're manifesting that you're going to
be able to expand your business
very very quickly so don't get
discouraged thinking oh i only have five
products to start five is a really
really
really great number of products to start
on your launch because
like i said you have a variety to offer
to your customers
you have different products with
different benefits and your storefront
will look established
you don't want to start a business and
have a website with only one product on
it
it's going to be hard to gain like a
trusting relationship with the customer
because your website and your brand is
going to look very new you want to get
established you want to get ross babe
you want to give
i've been doing this forever so if you
want to start a cosmetic brand
definitely stop
with five products and write down why
you want to sell each of those five
products or what your customer is going
to gain
from having each of these products i'm
telling you when it comes down to
marketing that's going to save you a lot
of time
trying to figure out why you want to
market this product you need to know
that
right when you're starting

tip number four is going to be to define
your target audience and i know that you
guys are probably tired of hearing me
saying
define your target audience target
audience target audience but
it's going to save you a lot of time and
trying to actually market your product
when it comes time to market your
products on social media
in your email list and things like that
so a target audience refers to
the specific group of people who will
want your product or service
so these are the people that you're
trying to get your products in front of
so you want to look at things like your
customers age
your customers gender you know how much
money do they make which means how much
money are they going to be willing to
spend on a product
where are they located the type of
things that they're interested in and
then there's just a tons of other
different factors
that you can look for when you're trying
to actually sit down and determine your
target audience
this is supposed to be your ideal buyer
so let me just go ahead and break it
down real quick for example for my
business
my ideal buyer is one a boss babe
two a female obviously three income
varies um
i'm looking for somebody who's willing
to spend above 15
for a skincare product because of the
benefit that they're going to gain from
that skincare product
their interests are things like leveling
up glowing skin
having radiant energy having a high
vibration things that are positive so if
you're looking to
elevate your lifestyle in any type of
way you're looking to practice better
self-care
you're looking to grow your hair glow
your skin stuff like that
that's what my target audience is that's
the customer that i'm looking for
that's the person that i want to see my
business and shop with my business
so basically what you want to do with
defining your target audience is
take a list and write down all those
different things about the person
who you want to be interested in your
product this is going to help you when
it comes time to either run
ads create email marketing campaigns
even generate things like captions and
you know your instagram content
when you're thinking about that you're
thinking about who do you want to be
like oh snap like
her page is really really cute i love
her products i love her mission state i
love everything about her brand
i will on the shop with this girl so
you want to know their interest and what
they value the most you want to make
sure that you're actually speaking to
them you're not going to just say hey i
got a body butter
come chop my body butter well girl why
do i want to shop your body butter and
why do you know
that your body butter is going to
benefit me over the next person so
that's just why you know having an
entire audience is really specific and
it's something that's going to help you
in the long run if you don't do it
you'll eventually have to do it and
maybe have to rebrand later
or change your you might have to change
a whole bunch of things down the line
instead of just doing it before you
actually start promoting your product so
save yourself that time and the money
and go ahead and define your talk
audience

okay so tip number five is probably my
favorite tip it's going to be to study
marketing strategies and tips the reason
why i'm saying study these type of
things is because
marketing is key to having a successful
cosmetic brand
y'all already know there are hundreds of
other cosmetic brands
existing right now and some of you guys
might be feeling like
oh well i can't start my cosmetic
business because xyz already has this
and i saw this girl doing this
no scratch that it's not about who's
doing what and how many people are doing
it it's about how you're going to do it
and how you're going to attract your
ideal customer there's a million one
people selling tissue there's a million
and one people selling bread
and you don't see nobody stop making
bread or stop making tissue
it's because they have a specific
marketing strategy
that they know will attract their ideal
customer
over the next brand if that makes sense
so don't short yourself by not studying
marketing strategies look into go on
youtube and just study
ways to market your business into a
larger audience that's something that
i've done
before and as my business has grown i've
learned my own marketing strategies but
one of the one the main things that you
can probably start to do is
pick one social media network or social
media app that you want to focus on
and stick to it because trying to run
facebook twitter
instagram tick tock and all these other
new social media apps all at once it's
going to drag you down
you already are running a business
that's a lot in itself so
if you know what you're trying to market
and how you want to market it you're
going to be
you're going to set yourself way ahead
of the game
like if i would have actually done the
research to figure out
how i want to use my instagram to
promote my business instead of just
posting content
i would have saved myself that time i
would have been much further than i am
even right now
so an example of a marketing strategy or
something that you can do
to you know determine whether or not
you're going to market this way or the
other way
is to decide what it is that you want
your customer
to stop scrolling for like for example i
post a picture of a body butter
and there's something about this picture
that i know that my ideal customer is
going to stop scrolling down their feed
because of the label design my label
design
is something that i work really really
hard on to make sure that
it's appealing to a specific type of
person i know a specific type of person
out there is going to love the way that
my packaging looks
so i'm going to up my packaging every
restock to make sure that
customers see this brand is elevating in
this way and i love the way that her
packaging looks
so i might want to support um there's
another thing that you can do which is
just simply having like an aesthetic
instagram feed
you can use reels to market your
business
you can use your website your website's
a really big way to market your business
just simply having a link in your bio
instead of saying
hey you know send me a dm and i'll
discuss pricing with you
it's just already going to set you over
the other 500
businesses who don't have a website and
it's going to eliminate the conversation
back and forth that you might have to
have
with a potential customer as opposed to
them being able to just
click right to your website and go and
shop and figure out the answers to the
questions that they you know that they
need so
having a website is just like you can't
start a cosmetic brand without having a
website at least not right now
it's too it's oversaturated market and
it's already hard to get people to want
to
shop with you so i recommend before you
start selling your product to build a
website
build a social media presence establish
relationships online with your customers
interact with other brands that are in
your similar niche to just grow your
following grow your page
grow your networking skills and then
once you start getting your content
you know your content strategy up then
your marketing strategy should follow
right soon
and i do have a couple of other tips on
good ways to market your business
but this video was not all about that so
i don't want to spend all the video
talking about
marketing marketing marketing however i
will be posting a video on marketing
strategies for your business that i've
learned
that have helped my business to flourish
in less than 12 months
okay so but basically my main tip or my
main point in saying all this is to say
study your marketing strategies before
you just start selling a product you
don't know how to sell the product
you have to figure out how you're going
to get your customer to want to buy it
you can't just say shop now or click the
link in my biota shop
well why do i want to click the link in
your bio what is the call to action
what is the benefit that i'm going to
get from shopping your business over
shopping the next business
so those are just a couple of tips for
you guys
on ways that you can start your cosmetic
brand if you're interested in starting
your cosmetic brand don't hold back says
what are you waiting for this is your

all right the last tip that i have this
is a bonus tip i just do this and i
randomly

needed to be saved
now that i've told you some things that
you should do before you start your
cosmetic business i want to go ahead and
say
the most important thing that you can do
for yourself
and for your brand is to be yourself you
have to be authentic and true to who you
are
otherwise running this business is going
to run you into the ground it's going to
feel like you have to
pull something up out of yourself that's
not already within you it's going to
feel like
you're putting on a fake persona or
you're portraying a fake image that's
not really true to who you are
and your business is going to reflect
that and if you can be inspired by
another business but
do your own work make sure that your
brand is unique
make sure that it's not directly copying
somebody else's image or their labels or
their font
just do your own thing because it's
going to save you the hassle of
another business saying oh you know i
recognize that label design but it looks
like
xyz you don't want that you don't want
to be giving another brand attention
because your brand
looks very similar to them just be
yourself like your customers are going
to love you for you
and if they don't then they're not your
ideal customers so don't try to put so
much emphasis on pleasing everyone
find define that target audience y'all
speak to one person
speak to them like you're talking to one
person and that's going to save you
the headache of feeling like your
business is
not given the real image of who you are
or like you're having to
you know portray somebody who you're not
really being so i just say the last
thing i want to say to you is just be
yourself
and have a good time running a business
is very very stressful but it's also
very freeing
and it's very liberating and i've wished
off all the boss babes as watching this
video right now
look y'all already know how i do i'm
gonna give y'all a pep talk i'm gonna
keep boosting y'all to do your own thing
