welcome to Consumer Cellular how to
video series today we're going to take a
closer look at our SIM cards and in
particular adjusting them to work with
your phone we have some help today from
our friend Cathy I understand that most
phones use SIM cards but aren't all SIM
cards the same not necessarily Cathy
fortunately Consumer Cellular offers an
all-in-one sim card that works with most
unlocked GSM cell phones or phones
previously used with Consumer Cellular
AT&T or t-mobile the thing is every cell
phone is different but it will use one
of three different sim card sizes our
all-in-one sim card can be adjusted to
work in all three sizes and today we'll
take a closer look at doing just that
when you buy an all-in-one SIM card
you'll find a guide on the packaging
that allows you to adjust the card to
suit your current device there are three
options for your SIM card size for a
standard sized SIM just press out the
dark blue section okay
keeping it fully connected to the orange
and light blue sections within it oh
you'll want to be careful to avoid
touching and possibly damaging the gold
contacts so you should push the card out
from the front got it for a micro sim
press along the orange line from the
front keeping the orange and smaller
light blue section within it connected
for a nano SIM press along the light
blue line from the front to detach it
from the surrounding orange and dark
blue sections it's as simple as that but
what if I make a mistake and I push out
the smaller card when I actually need
the larger one or what if I'm
transferring contacts to a phone that
requires a different size great
questions Kathy you should always keep
your extra SIM pieces together perhaps
with your box and owner's manual in case
you need to go back to a larger size if
that ever happens you simply need to
take your SIM card and find the
surrounding piece that it was originally
connected to this will allow you to
adjust the card to the correct size for
your device you can lay the pieces flat
line them up just like a puzzle and snap
them back together again
in this way your nano-sim can be
adjusted to fit in a micro SIM slot and
your micro sim can be adjusted to fit a
standard SIM slot when you reassemble
the parts into a larger SIM card always
handle the pieces carefully to avoid
damaging the gold contacts when you
slide the sim into a phone slot it's
possible the pieces could start to come
apart again
if that happens carefully slide it out
and lay the pieces on a flat surface
such as a table firmly press the pieces
together until they are smooth and flat
then carefully slide it back into the
slot of course the SIM card can be
divided into smaller pieces again if
needed by popping the smaller section
out I've got the all-in-one card I need
together but how do I get it into the
phone another great question let's look
at the steps to insert the all-in-one
card into two different kinds of phones
okay a flip phone and a smart phone
every phone is a little different but
the general approach will be the same
before you insert the SIM card always
make sure your phone is powered off and
that it is not connected to the charger
okay we'll start by removing the phone's
back cover first flip the device over
most phones have a notch between the
back cover and the phone itself so you
can pull the back cover away from the
phone once the back cover is off you'll
need to locate the SIM card note that in
some cases this is behind the battery so
you may need to remove that first find
the SIM card slot and then get your card
ready for this phone you'll use the
standard size SIM card which is all
three pieces together generally you'll
need to make sure the gold contacts are
facing down and the notched corner is
positioned correctly most phones will
have a small image next to the SIM card
slot indicating where to position the
knotch as you slide your card into your
phone's SIM slot put the phone's battery
back in place if needed
and then replace the phones back cover
great job Kathy that's how you insert a
SIM card into a flip phone now let's
take a look at the steps to inserting
the SIM card into a smart phone this is
similar to what we've just done with the
flip phone
note that smart phones often use smaller
SIM card sizes so you'll most likely
need to use the Micro SIM or nano SIM
size as with the flip phone we'll start
by removing the phone's back cover now
locate the SIM card slot remembering
that it may be behind the battery now
you can insert the SIM card ensuring
that the gold contacts are down and the
notch is positioned correctly for this
smart phone you will use the Micro SIM
card which includes the light blue and
orange pieces from the all-in-one SIM
card remember to keep the dark blue
piece in a place you'll be able to find
it later if you need to once again when
you slide your SIM card into the slot
you'll want to make sure the gold
contacts are positioned down and the
card is positioned correctly for your
particular device you're all set Kathy
now let's replace the phone's back cover
align the back cover against the rest of
the phone and then push it together
until you hear clicking and that's all
there is to it great now that I've done
this a few times I feel better about the
idea these all-in-one cards are really
easy to use with all different types of
cell phones thanks Kathy and thank you
