hey scrappers moose here so this video
is going to be about silverware now
i know
what silverware really
i mean
tons and tons of silverware out there
all right now the reason why i'm doing
this video is because
um i got a call from
um
a church that had a yard sales used me
before for picking up you know other
electronics and things that they need to
recycle
and they she called them so we just had
a huge yard sale we're done
come grab it all take it all if you want
it we don't want it anymore so fine
so i go there and she had about
five five gallon pails of silverware
so the first thing that goes through my
mind is probably what goes through most
of your mind is silver
right i'm gonna find silver in there go
through it fine pull everything out
that's possibly solid silver silver
plate
and then the rest is just going to go in
the white iron pile
that's what i started off doing but then
i thought
well you know there's got to be
something more to this so this is what i
learned how to do
all right so the first thing that i did
was i went through everything
and pulled out everything that looks
silver i mean silver
anyone who has any kind of um
experience you know looking for silver
knows that it's going to have a
tarnished appearance so you want to pull
all that stuff out
now
there are some things out there that
look like silver but aren't quite silver
so
the first thing you want to do is look
for either
0.925
sterling a little picture of a lion's
head sometimes you'll see 800 or 0.80
um there's literally a hundred different
marks for sterling silver but it's going
to be marked if it's silver
sometimes you'll see silver p or ep ep
means electro plate so it's really not
worth your time
and there are some people out there who
can recover the silver off of them but
you know
it's less than 20 an ounce i don't see
that it's really that worth it if you
want to save it up and sell it as is
that's perfectly fine but i'll get to
that
the next thing that i found is there's a
lot of things out there
that
at first glance look like silver
and when you read the back it'll say
silver nickel or nickel silver all right
now that is an extremely deceiving thing
because these actually contain no silver
it's actually just a mix of nickel and
another metal
uh the skate smith mom but it's not
silver
all right so you want to set those aside
separate them from everything else okay
so next you go through and you'll find
some things
that
well a magnet sticks to it so it can't
be silver well with butter knives what
you have to keep in mind is that often
the blade is an entirely different metal
than the handle
so this one
is
a
stainless steel blade
with a silver plated handle all right
but
this one
this i i've polished it up a little bit
so sorry
but it was tarnished when i found it but
this
is a stainless steel blade
with a sterling handle
all right
so like this one right here i doubt you
can read it but it says right on there
stainless blade
sterling handle
all right
so this one the handle is sterling
silver
so that's great you know i found you
know
all in all i found a few ounces of
silver in these five five gallon buckets
of silverware so i thought all right so
now the rest is just going to go in the
light iron whatever i'll get like three
cents a pound and i was like wait a
minute all right it's stainless steel
right
so the next thing you got to do is take
a magnet to it all right
so
this may say stainless steel on it but
just because it says stainless steel
doesn't mean it's non-magnetic stainless
steel all right and there's a huge
difference in what your scrap yard will
pay for
non-magnetic stainless steel
so this one
doesn't stick so this spoon is going to
get you more money at the scrap yard
than the rest of that stuff so separate
those out as well
now
the last thing that i learned while i
was doing this
is
i came across it kind of by accident
i was flipping through and i found a
matching set and i thought you know
that's kind of cool it's kind of
interesting it's not a
regular looking set um so i figured you
know what i'll just i'll keep it i'll
wash it up and use it for my lunch box
for work
well while i was at work
i noticed a little symbol on the blade
i researched it online
this set right here
sold for a hundred dollars on ebay
one seven
these pieces that's it not you know a 40
piece set not a whole bunch of other
just these three okay so it got me
thinking
and i started going through all the
other sets that i had and i started
thinking why not just put other sets
together
so
i started grouping everything together
in sets with rubber bands and this set
uh there was a set of eight online that
sold for ten dollars now i'm not going
to get ten dollars in scrap please all
right these are actually
these are magnetic
so this is like the lowest of the low
price and they're in fairly good
condition
so i just
bound them up i'm still going through
all the buckets of
silverware but there's going to be a
whole bunch more that i can sell on ebay
and make so much more money than scrap
so even though i
came to this yard sale and thought wow
it's just a bunch of steel that i'm just
going to get crap for
all it takes is just a little bit of
ingenuity a little bit of curiosity to
just look around through these things
and you can find items that
it's amazing how much more money you can
make by selling them on ebay which ties
me into the next video that you're going
to see coming up so make sure that you
keep watching it thanks for watching
