downfall of facebook as newer and

you can use facebook marketplace and
facebook shops to expand your customer
base and make more sales

one of the best ways to increase sales
is to reduce the amount of friction
between your potential customers and
them buying and more often than not that
friction can be removed by meeting them
where they are instead of requiring them
to come to you and jump through a bunch
of hoops i mean we've all been there
right you see something online and think
i need that you head over to the website
find what you're looking for only to
realize that when you break out your
credit card you need to first create an
account
check your email to confirm your account
then head back log in re-add to cart and
by the time you get there you're so
turned off that the thing you so
desperately needed just a few minutes
ago isn't even a glimmer of desire now
that right there is the demonic friction
at work and also just how fickle the
purchasing decision can be for most of
us real humans
thankfully with shopify trailblazing
social shopping integrations not only
can we as sellers meet our buyers where
they already spend their time on their
favorite social networks but now we
reduce the friction so much that they
don't even have to leave facebook to
come to our website now they can
literally buy directly inside of
facebook end to end but first dictionary
time if you are new to selling on
facebook random new words and phrases
you'll hear can start to feel a touch
overwhelming what's more there are some
things you'll need to do inside of
facebook and other things you'll need to
do inside of your shopify admin and at
first glance this may feel daunting but
you'll see that it's really truly very
easy so let's spend the next minute to
see the big picture and understand the
terms
i'll kick things off with the two most
confusing sets of terms facebook
business manager versus facebook
commerce manager as well as facebook
shops and facebook page shops
business manager is where you can
control the top level settings of your
business including your business's
facebook page while commerce manager is
where you manage all of the settings
dealing specifically with selling your
products like your catalog of items
facebook page shops is the original
iteration of e-commerce on facebook
where with shopify's integration folks
visiting your business's facebook page
could see your catalog and buy things
directly from there
facebook shops however is the newer
version where your entire catalog and
shopping experience on facebook is
consolidated into one easy to manage
place which means your one shop section
can control not just shopping on
facebook but also on instagram a single
point of truth for you to sell on all of
your properties owned by facebook's
parent company meta that said facebook
is still in the middle of rolling out
facebook shops around the world so you
can check out the supported markets page
on facebook business to see if your
country is supported but fear not even
if it isn't yet you can still use
facebook page shops it just means that
you'll have to set up things like your
instagram shop separately and your
country will likely receive full
integration sometime very soon once that
happens when facebook brings facebook
shops to your country they'll notify you
through a notification and you will be
able to migrate everything to the new
system very easily
we'll link the supported markets page in
the description below but given that
this video you're watching is in english
all countries where english is the
primary language already supports the
new facebook shops but let's take a
bird's-eye view of what you need to do
to get set up
first things first you'll need both a
business page on facebook as well as a
shopify store once you have both it's
time to sync them together so they can
communicate with each other and you'll
need to perform a task in the facebook
business manager and four tasks in your
shopify admin so make sure you are
logged into both before starting first
in your shopify admin will be enabling
facebook as a sales channel so find the
words sales channel in the left hand
navigation menu and click the little
plus sign which will bring up a list
where you'll find and select the
facebook option
click the update sales channel button on
the following screen and shopify will
bring up a list of tools you can use to
start syncing the two together
click start setup under sell your
products on facebook this will bring up
the setup facebook shop screen where you
will select connect account to start the
process of syncing your new facebook
shop with your shopify store
and once your personal facebook account
is connected you will be able to choose
the facebook page or pages you are an
administrator for that you'd like to
start syncing with
next up is the most psychologically
scary part but is in actuality very easy
and that's verifying your domain this is
so important because it's the only way
to protect you you don't want other
people to be able to hijack your domain
so verifying it during this syncing
process is absolutely critical
once you're logged into facebook go to
business.facebook.com and that'll bring
up your business manager home
from there click on the gear for
settings on the bottom left then more
business settings which will open a new
tab in your browser on the left hand
menu of that new tab find brand safety
expand it and click on domains click the
blue add button and you'll be asked to
put in your shopify store's domain and
remember don't add www or http just the
domain itself like mystore.com once you
type in your domain and click add you
will be presented with a four-step
process that again if you're not used to
messing with website code looks
absolutely terrifying but thanks to
shopify is exceptionally easy
click on that bold string of code in
step 1 to copy it then head over to your
shopify admin
and now you'll see just how simple this
is
on the left hand menu click online store
next find a button called actions and
when you click it it'll drop down where
you'll find and click edit code
when you click edit code an extra left
hand menu will appear and you'll find a
folder icon with the word layout next to
it
you'll click that at which point it'll
expand and you'll find theme.liquid and
click it once
by the way sidenote it's possible that
it does not say theme.liquid but rather
theme dot something else but there's
only one item that starts with theme dot
so just click that once
when you click it you'll see a whole
bunch of code appear and this is the
part that looks scary but fear not
find the first instance of the word head
between two triangle brackets
click once behind the second triangle
bracket behind the d of the head
hit enter so it starts a new line then
paste that line of code you copied from
then hit the green save button on the
top right
congratulations the only scary looking
part is done
now these code changes can take up to 24
hours to both be updated and be able to
communicate back to facebook but
sometimes it's much faster like just a
few minutes
me personally i'd give it an hour before
heading back to your facebook manager to
click that big green verify domain
button
but once that's been done you're ready
to move on and hey as an added bonus can
basically tell your friends you're a
hacker because you coded something by
the way we're just covering how to sell
on facebook here but if you're also
interested in the specifics of selling
on instagram and the ins and outs of
instagram ads i welcome you to check out
this video which will link right up here
but going back to our facebook guide the
next step is actually mostly automated
and that's to add the products in your
shopify store to your facebook shops
catalog and when i say it's mostly
automated i mean that it'll take up to
48 hours for facebook to sync your
products but if for any reason you do
not want some of your products to be
available through facebook shops you
will have to manually disable them
this is done by going to your shopify
admin going to the individual product
page you want to remove from facebook
shops
click manage under the sales channels
and apps section on the right hand side
of the page and uncheck the facebook
option
again most people will likely want their
entire shopify's store catalog to be
available on facebook shops as well but
for example you may have some products
that you don't offer international
shipping on but want to do a facebook
shop's ad campaign targeting audiences
all around the world and so decide to
remove those local shipping only
products from your facebook shops
lastly and this is an important one to
consider is to select your checkout
method
by default all facebook shop tiles
feature a view on website button but
like we mentioned at the very beginning
you may choose to reduce friction by
enabling shoppers to buy and check out
directly inside of facebook there are
pros and cons to both in that keeping
the view on website button definitely
increases traffic to your online store
and therefore increases the chances of
people having a look around and
potentially adding more things to their
cart while both learning and building a
deeper bond with you and your brand but
also has those added steps before they
can actually give you their credit card
information more friction this fee can
definitely dig into your profits so my
personal recommendation is to experiment
with both where in your first month keep
it at the default view on website option
to track conversions and results and on
month 2 enable the facebook checkout
function and see if sales drastically
increase with the reduced friction which
would ultimately make paying that extra
fee totally worth it depending on your
margins of course another huge benefit
of enabling facebook checkout is that if
you are a seller in the united states
you can sync your products directly into
facebook marketplace now facebook will
likely roll this ability out gradually
to the rest of the world so don't forget
to check that link of supported markets
down in the description below but if you
are in the states all you have to do
once you've already set up your facebook
shop is to go to your facebook commerce
manager select your shop click the
settings on the left hand menu then
click business assets then finally click
enable marketplace since this is so new
facebook serves your listings in
marketplace for you with their
recommendation algorithm which on the
one hand is a bit annoying since you
have zero control of who to target but
on the other hand is fantastic because
it's one less thing you need to worry
about just treat it like it's a whole
bonus sales channel you didn't
previously have the thing about channels
though is that you just need to start so
you've been watching to research and
figure out how you will sell on facebook
i welcome you to sign up for a 100 free
trial to shopify where you can test
everything we talked about here with
zero commitment but there you have it
the complete guide on how to set
yourself up to sell with facebook shops
and if your country is supported
integrating your online stores products
directly into facebook marketplace me
being here in canada i cannot wait for
the marketplace integration to make its
way over here and i'll be keeping my eye
out on the supported markets page on
facebook linked below so i can jump on
it the moment it happens by the way if
you got some value from this video hit
that like button but if you got lots of
value be sure to hit subscribe and that
bell so that you'll be notified the
moment new videos just like this one
drop but as usual thanks so much for
hanging out with me and i'll catch you
in the next one
