hey what's up everybody so you probably
clicked on this video
because i'm going to teach you guys how
to sell shoes on ebay
in 2020. right before we get into all
that i just want to cover everything
we're going to go through
so at least you know what's ahead maybe
if you want to skip ahead i'm going to
try and leave little markers
in there so we're going to work through
the title and then there's also going to
be
photos that you have to add all the way
to the things that you have to fill out
for all of the
item specifics and then also to the
description box
and talk a little bit about like
shipping how to ship what's the best way
to ship
what services are the best how does
insurance work
and then we're going to talk about
returns do i accept returns do i not
accept returns
and kind of all the different nuances
that go into that
there's a lot to go over and so i'm
hoping i'm going to try and minimize
this video as much as i can
but let's go ahead and just jump
straight into it by the way just really
quick i want to kind of give a
background
like who is this guy i don't know who he
is he's a small youtuber
how can i know to trust him so i think
i've had my ebay account since 2012
and i've been selling shoes throughout
that time so it's about eight years but
i've also
gotten super heavy into selling shoes on
ebay maybe about a year and a half ago
so i've learned a bunch of different
things and i want to pass them on to you
guys
i have this many reviews and here's a
screenshot of that over here
and there's also uh here's a kind of
pass list of all of my sales that i've
made in the past couple months so
you guys can see that i have moved a
pretty decent amount of shoes on ebay so
i like to think i know what i'm talking
about i also don't think i'm an expert
on everything but i do think i have some
wisdom and some truth to kind of give to
you guys
you probably saw that ebay they started
doing zero seller fees which is
amazing so no more stockx no more go but
the problem was
why should i trust ebay because they're
scammers there's a lot of
talks about people getting scammed here
and there this and that
and i don't know if you guys saw but
ebay announced that they're going to be
launching uh in the next couple of weeks
actually their own
authentication program and by the year
2021 that they're gonna have
a full on no matter what shoe it is as
long as if it's
a hundred dollars over it'll be
authenticated and they're
partnering with sneaker con app so i
think this is gonna be interesting
because they're still offering zero
percent fees
so that's a lot of money for you to make
the first things first
the description so i've already made an
ebay account you already have a couple
shoes
that you want to list so you have to
make a listing so one of the first
things you're going to have to do is
make a title
so my suggestion when you make a title
is you want to try and fill out
as many words as you can i think you
have a 80
count limit to what you can do i don't
think you have to use
all 80 sometimes it helps you want to
write the name of the shoe you might
want to write the size of the shoe i
think it's very helpful when you also
write
the style code and the color code so if
you don't know if you
look on shoes i'll kind of give examples
nike has like a six digit code with the
dash and then the last three codes are
the color code
for adidas it's usually like two letters
and then four numbers like a bv two
seven seven
six or something like that all these
shoes have different style codes and i
think it's very helpful when you're
selling shoes because sometimes people
don't know what the name of it is
and so they don't know how to search it
and so they're going to look up the
style code and the color code and type
that onto ebay
and then hopefully that'll help you
bring more people to your
listing so that's one thing i want to
note make sure you write like if it's
uh these are bricks it's okay nmds
so how i would list this is i would
probably write
nmd adidas boost nmd dash
c2 um probably brown suede over here you
do have the style code and the color
code which is by9913
i could write men's size 10 and a half
and i can write like a bunch of other
things like running
walking people like to add all this
stuff if you don't know go ahead and
check out my ebay page
for different examples so all these
shoes will have a different
description but they all should look
kind of similar and i think that will
help
you kind of be on more of the top
searches when people look for your
product so
next thing is pictures pictures is a big
thing because if you don't have clear
pictures
then you're probably not going to get as
many sales so clear pictures are super
important
and what you want to do taking pictures
is
don't take pictures at night time just
don't you could wait until the next day
take pictures during the day have good
light if you don't
have good light then maybe you should be
interested
in buying a studio box here i just use
um
the wood floor in my living room and it
comes out really nice because i take
pictures
at the right time of day where there's
still light where it's not too dark not
too bright
and i want to give good pictures and a
lot of angles okay this is one of the
biggest things i see people mess up on
is when they're either taking pictures
at night time or they upload blurry
pictures
um or they only upload like one or two
pictures guys it's so
sketchy to me as a buyer i also buy on
ebay it's sketchy when i only see one or
two photos because
i feel like you're hiding something and
even if the shoes are great
like what's the harm in taking a few
more photos because one i also need to
legit check shoes that's also a hard
thing to do
with only one or two pictures i also
want to see any of the flaws how used
they are
if they are used um etc like if the box
is damaged i want to know that before
buying because when i
receive the shoe and something's wrong
and i didn't know
well guess what i'm leaving bad feedback
because the seller didn't
promise me the item that it appeared to
be sold
so make sure to take a lot of good
pictures i put these examples i always
take
these pictures so so even though these
aren't the original box
i like to take pictures like this i
usually take a picture of the box
like this with the tag right here the
shoes kind of add a nice little angle so
that way
it kind of looks appealing so the first
picture is going to be this one because
it looks most appealing and it shows
people exactly what i have for sale
the next picture i take is a front angle
view like this so that way they can see
if there's creasing they can see if
there's anything
wrong with the tongue or the laces and
then after i take the pictures like this
i usually remove the box at this point
and it's just the
photo of the shoes on the floor i
usually take a picture like this
because it shows the medial side and
the profile side of the shoe and then
i'll simply
flip it over take the picture again so
that way they're seeing both sides of
the shoe
and then i'll take one picture like this
of the back heel so that way they can
see heel drag they can see any scuff
marks because usually the heel
is going to be the way that you indicate
heel drag scuff marks because
even when you're driving you know you're
hitting this part you're scuffing this
part
people step on your shoes on this part
so the heels are an important thing
and then lastly i'll flip it over and
i'll take a picture of the soles
because you also get to see how much
traction is left if there's anything
worn down if there's a bunch of gunk in
there
i don't know so it's always important
for you to take all these photos so that
way
um you don't have any problems with
people being like hey you didn't give me
the
shoes i just that were described or you
didn't do this or that like
you kind of avoid all those things and
honestly like you don't want to try and
scam people and be like oh this shoe is
kind of beat up i'm only going to take
these pictures this way so that way
they still buy it honestly like that's
only going to get you so far you might
be able to move a couple bricks and some
people might not care about it
as much but some other people are going
to put you on blast you're going to
request a refund
they're going to leave you bad feedback
they're just going to be so upset
and if you do it to the wrong person
they could tarnish your name and
you don't want that because you're
trying to build your own business on
ebay
so make sure you're always honest and
showing all the right pictures and then
after i do all those pictures
if there's a flaw on the shoes say
there's a scuff there's a cut there's
a stain or something i take extra
pictures of that so that way they know
exactly
what they're getting there's no real
like perfectionate
way to take pictures that's just the way
i've learned to
and what i've appreciated over the years
and
sometimes i'll get people asking me for
more pictures of like the inside of the
insole
the size tag of all that stuff and when
they do
i just provide it it's fine uh if they
don't
then it's all good right so i pre i try
to provide
enough pictures that it's it makes sense
so
i'm always uploading at least like at
minimum five or six photos at a time
so the next thing you're gonna do is
you're gonna fill out all of the item
specific stuff so this is kind of
it also is important it kind of seems
like a little bit of
busy work but um you have to write the
condition it's in
the name of the item the color of the
item
you got to make sure that the model's
right that the style is right
make sure if you're selling sneakers
that it's under athletic sneakers
because if you don't
you will not be getting the 100
zero percent seller fee thing you it has
to be under athletic sneakers
so make sure it's under athletic and
then you're gonna kind of
trail down and you can add as much or as
little information there are some
things that are required so make sure to
fill those out
like correctly try and use the ones that
ebay already has pre-made but if you
really can't find it
then like you can create your own it's
no big deal but for the majority of the
things that are required
just make sure that you're very specific
with it because it does affect the way
that people
search it up so some people fill out
everything euro size manufacturer like
all that stuff i personally don't
because i don't think it really
matters super hard but all the stuff
that are required i actually
really make sure that it's the right
information because you also don't want
to screw up
sizing or something and then someone
requests a refund because you sent them
the wrong size or you wrote the wrong
size because even though in the picture
it says the size 10 if you accidentally
have it at like a nine and a half or ten
and a half
and you send it people could be like
well your description said ten and a
half so
that's not what i got you gotta always
cover your tracks you can't assume ebay
buyers are smart
and will know everything and read
everything because
i mean when it was the last time you
read every single detail of someone
else's listing
so make sure to overlook everything
everything is right in there and you'll
be good to go
i believe that the next thing is your
description of the item so this is your
space to talk it up
honestly it will already pre-program if
you're doing this on your mobile phone
it will pre-program just saying it'll
give the item
the title of your item and then it'll
just say shipped with
whatever usps it is pre-owned or
something very general and basic and
then you kind of add your own thing
so this is important too because
sometimes people like to throw in their
own
their own welcoming thing some people
have pre-loaded pages that just open up
which is pretty crazy i still don't
even know how to do that see i'm not
even like super professional
but just for starting off i do think it
helps but i like to
restate everything that's with the shoe
does the shoe come with the box does it
not come with the box is it worn how
worn down
is it um do the shoes still have life
left is it breaking down
all of the flaws like i said you want to
be honest because if you're not being
honest and you send someone a product
it's not good for your business man i'm
just telling you so make sure to be
honest in all those things and then
i always like to kind of end it off with
like hey thanks for
your business or thanks for stopping by
thanks for looking and then i don't know
if it's allowed i haven't been stopped
yet but i also added my instagram i'm
like hey check out my instagram page
and then i'll be like at the real sneak
peek and sometimes i get people
asking me hey you are selling this shoe
for this much i'm wondering if you can
change it so they'd rather dm me on
instagram rather than messaging me on
ebay because honestly it's faster and
easier item description make sure it's
filled out pretty well
i would say at least write a paragraph
at minimum
some people write out like a whole long
thing talking about terms and conditions
honestly like kudos to you guys who do
that and there's no shade
i'm pretty sure like it might help you
with the customer relationship
and working things out but when it comes
to like
actual ebay cases ebay doesn't care that
you wrote all that stuff
they don't like just being straight up
honest if you're like
no returns all sales are final no matter
what it doesn't matter
like they will force you to like refund
them
and i'll like i said i'll get into that
later so moving on
so shipping you have three different
options you can do calculated shipping
you can do free shipping you can do
like a flat rate cost and you can use
usps fedex
ups honestly while you're listing it
doesn't matter which one you pick in
terms of like the service you're going
to provide
it does alter however if you use
a customized shipping rate so like if
you use usps
it's probably going to be cheaper from
here anywhere to like halfway across the
country
that's just how it works when it's all
the way across the country you're
probably going to want to use fedex or
ups
it's just cheaper that way so that's one
way that it'll affect the cost
i personally like to do free shipping i
just calculate 15 to 20
per shoe that i list and so whatever i
expect to get
i add an extra 15 to 20 depending on the
shoe
like the size how heavy it is um how big
the box is going to be
so that is how i do it i do that
for a specific reason which i'll also
get into a little bit later
um but whatever you feel comfortable
with if you're not sure
uh you could you guys can follow what
i'm doing is fifteen to twenty dollars
should cover your shipping cost um
unless you're selling a super expensive
item then you're also going to want to
add in like
insurance costs or signature costs
because those things do add up and you
do want to make sure that
in case for whatever reason your package
doesn't show up that you're still
covered
that's what i would do i do free
shipping either that or do a flat
flat rate cost i think the calculated
one is a little bit risky because some
people are going to see like
27 for you to ship something because you
didn't
accurately fill out your shipping
information
so the shipping information we'll get
right into that
the best thing you can do i know it's
it's easier and it saves you money just
recycling boxes that maybe you get in
from sneakers app or
adidas or whatever it is or just reusing
old amazon packages like
it's smart like you do get to use that
what i do suggest is buying like
sets of boxes that are all the same size
so for me i like to use i have two
separate boxes that i
i buy it's easier because one the boxes
cost maybe like
37 47 cents or something like that
and i buy one that's 14 by 10 by six
those will fit your average shoe boxes
like this one
and then i have another one that's
actually 16 by 12
by six and that one will fit bigger
boxes like
like this jordan box is a size 12 but
it's like
a lot longer than other ones so this
one's gonna fit in that box
um or you have bigger boxes um
like jordan five boxes or jordan six
boxes are a little bit
bulkier so you're gonna need those
bigger boxes and
dimensions matter dimensions matter in
your shipping cost and how much you're
gonna pay
i know it gets all into this so it's
also gonna make things a lot
faster for you because if you know that
all of your boxes are one size you can
always enter in that
and assume that each shoe is going to be
around three pounds so
that will help everything go by faster
i'm telling you buy
specific size boxes for your shoes all
that to say
is you're going to need to invest in a
couple things you're going to need
a scale not like a big scale like you
stand on to weigh yourself but more of
like
they have shipping scales you can find
like smaller ones that go up to maybe
like 50
pounds because you don't i'm guessing
you're probably not going to ship
shoes that are over 50 pounds unless if
you're selling shoes in bulk
if then then you're probably going to
need a bigger scale more expensive scale
but the little ones i think you can buy
them on amazon for like 10 15 bucks
i have one from mozari and then you're
also going to want to have a tape
measure so you can always make sure that
the boxes are always the right size
unless if like i said you don't have you
can skip that step if you buy the same
size
boxes so ah this is going on forever and
i hope you guys are still staying with
me
take a break stretch relax we're getting
through it
i know it's a lot to take in but
hopefully this will help you guys
so got through shipping the last thing
is how to manage your payments and do
you
you accept returns so this is a big one
if you can ebay is switching over to
their own system of managing payments
that is going to be the best thing for
you a lot of people
think that paypal is supposed to be
better and whatever if you have paypal
the zero percent fees is still true but
paypal still takes
2.9 percent of your sale and i have a
lot of people arguing me with this but
this is just from my own personal
experience
this is what i've seen this is how it's
affected me in my business
when i look at invoices this is what
happens so i switched over so paypal
used to charge me 2.9
while i was still getting zero percent
from ebay i mean
goat does that when you're trying to
transfer money out whatever like it's
just a processing fee
so that used to be a thing if you can
set up with ebay i would suggest
because with ebay they only charge you
30 cents per transaction
as long as it's a hundred dollars or
over on sneakers
plus it's not an international shipping
rate so
international cost please i would
suggest doing global
the global program with ebay because
when you do that you don't have to wait
for your item to ship
all the way to europe or something in
order for you
to be safe and sound you ship to ebay
and then ebay receives your order and
then they ship it out to them so you're
only responsible for shipping it to ebay
so that's something that a lot of people
were afraid about make sure to do that
it does
cost a little bit more that one you
actually do get hit with the fee
i've been getting hit different fees one
fee i got for like five dollars one fee
it was like a dollar 37 but
you know five dollars for making the
sale that's okay with me make sure to
switch over to ebay
managed payments because after that it
only costs 30 cents
per transaction so if i sell a shoe for
150
the money that's hitting my account is
going to be 149.70 the only downside to
this
is that paypal you used to have your
funds right away at least in your paypal
account it would hit right away and of
course when you
deduct it you can do instant transfer
which is like a day but it takes like
one percent or something
i don't like losing money i'd rather
wait the one to two days
but essentially it becomes the same
thing like at least with paypal you can
send money out if you're trying to buy
stuff from different people
but if you're just trying to get into
your bank account it's going to take the
same amount of time
managed payments they pay but you have
to wait like
one to three days for the payment to
process into your account
and then it'll hit as a direct deposit
into your bank account
so that's the only downside to it is
that you do have to wait like one to
three days for you to actually get your
money
but that's just how it is i would
suggest doing that if you can switch
over if they make you set up with paypal
just grind it out until you can finally
switch over to manage payments
2.9 percent still isn't a bad cost
compared to the nine percent plus five
dollar fee from go
or like the 12.9 percent from stockx
and then the last thing that you're
going to check off is i always do
required
uh instant payment i don't like not
having it on because what people do is
they'll click on it commit to buy
it'll take your listing down and then
they'll just never pay
it's super annoying super frustrating i
know
i have had it happen to me a lot of
times but
if you turn on that button then they
have to pay right away and if they don't
then your listing is still up
so you're good to go on that end and the
last thing is do you accept returns
this is another big topic because a lot
of people are like
don't accept returns because that's how
you get scammers scammers are going to
hit you no matter what if they're going
to try and scam you
so i personally open up returns
for free i pay for return shipping as
well the reason why i do this
which a lot of people for some reason
don't know
is that you get benefits if you accept
returns
if you become a top rated seller let me
explain that really quick
because it's not just for anyone you
have to meet the requirements of being a
top rated seller
the way that you do that is that you
have to change your shipping
days to only one one business day of
handling time meaning you only have one
business day to actually ship out your
items which
for me i have time to do that uh you
also have to meet like a certain quota
of
no delayed shippings and no like issues
like
like claims and files for people against
you because you're a bad seller like
honestly it's not that hard to get it
you do have to grind for like a good
month and whatever but
that's just how you do it when i talk to
ebay people on the phone because i like
to ask them a lot of questions because
i'm trying to learn i'm trying to get
better at this so i asked them a lot of
questions
because i was like dude people scam all
the time shouldn't i just say no returns
they're like
honestly people are going to scam you no
matter what if they're out to scam you
and it's true
and also the return rate on stuff is the
same whether you have returns on
or off it doesn't matter because people
even if they're honest and they just
want to return it because maybe they
feel like
it's just not the item that you describe
they can return it because they'll say
item not
as described and ebay has to do that
because on their end they probably feel
like they're the ones who are getting
scammed out of the shoe
and then you have to fork over the
refund money
and shipping and do all the stuff and
it's just super frustrating
so the benefit of actually having
returns because right now it just sounds
like well returns and ebay and all the
stuff sucks
i don't want to do ebay but this is the
benefit of it okay
so the benefit of this is if you are a
top rated seller and you do returns
this is where you get protection you
don't get protection from all scams or
100
but what they do offer you is that if
you
accept returns someone returns it to you
instead of ebay dealing with all stuff
you get to deal with it meaning you can
get up to 50
of the sale back when it's returned to
you granted
you can't abuse this power because ebay
keeps track of it and if they see that
you're
getting 50 back from every single thing
and you they have ebay
people like complaining about you doing
this then yeah your privileges are going
to get taken away
so don't abuse it honestly just use it
to be an honest
business person because it'll
be beneficial say you ship out a dead
stock shoe someone returns it they're
not fake but they've been used once that
affects the value
if you didn't have returns on and ebay's
doing all the stuff you have to deal
with ebay sending photos doing all the
stuff that's just such a big pain in the
butt
um but instead if you accept free
returns
and you are a top rated seller i get to
pick from 10
all the way to 50 of how much money i
want back
to me i'd rather have 50 of my money
back rather than zero percent of my
money back
i know it's not the best but it's better
than nothing
so this is kind of where the roles get
switched over so that's why i suggest
doing free returns doing one day
business handling
try and get to that top rated seller i
know it's kind of mixed in with returns
and whatever but
it's a big deal i've already experienced
two returns
and honestly two returns out of the last
like
six months is very small it's not like
it happens a lot
i personally haven't gotten shoes back
that are fake that are
undead stocked i had one pair that came
back just a little bit more used and so
i took like 10
of the sale for it it's honestly it
works so smooth because they don't even
approve it it just
like i approve it like it just comes
back to me so make sure you do that and
then after all that's done you can
finally submit
the listing and if everything checks out
it'll automatically list
for you all of that was a lot to go over
and
if you guys are interested in so in the
next video we're going to talk about how
to deal with scammers
maybe how to ship your shoes what
shipping your shoes should look like and
