in today's video i'm going to show you
how you can buy and sell stocks and
shares on the trading 212 platform
hi everyone welcome back to my channel
my name's jesse and i do all kinds of
videos on stocks and shares
cryptocurrency and also personal
investing so that's of any interest to
you make sure to hit the subscribe
button down below to stay up to date
with all my latest videos now if you're
totally new to investing and you're
unsure which investing platform to be
using in order to buy any stocks and
shares i've done a video where i compare
what i think are the four best investing
platforms in the uk so make sure you go
check that out before deciding on your
investing platform i'm going to dive in
and show you exactly how you can buy and
sell stocks and shares so once you're on
the platform you're at the home page
what you're going to do is you're going
to click the little search function
which is on the left hand side of the
menu
you're then going to type in the stock
that you're interested in buying so for
example here i might want to buy some
tesla tesla will come up the top one is
the actual tesla share or stock that i
actually want to buy what's nice is if
you potentially don't want to buy it
right at this point you can add it to
one of your watch lists summary gives
you a little bit of an overview about
the stock such as the current price
what's happened in the last year you've
also got a graph which shows you the
price action which you can then change
the time period depending on what you
want to look at and you've also got an
advanced chart which you can click into
and can give you a bit more detail if
you're a beginner investor you won't
need to use this and the simple chart
here is good enough for you to use
you've got company details key ratios
and also financial summaries which you
might want to look at before you buy the
stock now in order to buy it you're
going to scroll back up to the top and
you're going to simply click the buy
button now as soon as you click that bar
bomb you get another little pop-up and
you've got four options here of how you
can buy the stock you have buying it at
market which means that you're buying
the stock at its current market price so
for this example i would be buying the
tesla stock at 838
you've then got a limit order which is
basically where you can set the price
that you want to buy the stock at so for
example let's say i wanted to buy the
stock when it drops to 800
now if the market price then drops to
800
this trade will execute for me
automatically without me being here now
this is quite a nice feature because
potentially it's middle of the night
you're in bed in your sleep and the
price drops down to 800
and then by the time you've woken up the
prices bounce back up again
if you didn't have this limit order you
wouldn't be able to execute that trade
at a market value because you wouldn't
you'd have to actually manually be there
at the point that it drops to 800
with this trading tool to execute the
trade all automatically for you have the
potential risk with this is the tesla
stock might not even drop to 800 anymore
and you might just see it keep going up
and up and up and as a result your trade
will never be executed now for this
tutorial i won't go into the stop and
stop limit as these are a bit more
advanced for a beginner investor so if i
wanted to execute a trade at the market
price
i'd simply type in so at the moment i've
got 25 pounds of cash to spend in here i
can simply drag the little scroll bar
along the bottom which basically shows
me how much i could buy so with my 25
with my 25 pounds i can buy about 0.03
of a tesla share alternatively i could
type it in so i could type in 0.03 if i
didn't want to use the little scroll bar
at the bottom here i'm hovering over the
number of shares i can also turn it into
a value so i know i've got 25 pounds and
i'm not really too bothered how many
shares that is i could just type in that
i want to spend 25 pounds and it'll work
out automatically for me and you can see
the share value below then going to
click review order and then go pop up
which just gives me a bit of a summary
of the transaction i'm about to do you
can see
number of shares i'm buying the shares
value and see commission is free great
thing about trading two on two there's
zero commission on it but you see here
there is a small fx fee that's because
i'm buying a us stock while i'm based in
the uk if i was to buy uk stock that fx3
would be zero and then i'm going to
click send buy order
and then the trade is executed for me
and if you go back to your portfolio you
can see here i've now got the tesla and
because i'm filming and doing this at a
weekend the stock market is not open
over the weekend so i've got a little
timer you can see here when you click on
it you can see you've got a pending
order 25 pounds of buy once the market
opens on monday morning this trade will
automatically be executed for me at that
current market price now if i wanted to
sell a stock on the trading 200 platform
i'd click on the portfolio
and i'd simply enough click on any stock
that i wanted to sell for example let's
say i wanted to sell some of my coinbase
shares it will then give you a little
summary on the right hand side and
you're going to click the sell button
now similarly here you've got the same
options you've got the market so that'd
be me selling it at the current market
price of 165
and you've also got the limit order
which is me selling it at a certain
price so for example here i'd put in the
price down here of 200
and if the coinbase stock went up to 200
it would then execute my trade
automatically for me for this example
here i might say i want to sell a
certain number of shares or i want to
sell a certain value of my shares um so
for this example i want to sell 10
worth of shares and then typing in the
amount i want to sell i can then click
the review order and then it gives me an
overall summary of my sell order you can
see
the number of shares i'm selling the
share value
the commission is free and i've got a
small fx fee and you can see the total
and i can click send sell order
you can see i get a little enough
notification pop up on the right side
which just said order has been executed
and you can see again because i'm
recording this at the weekend the stock
market's not open i've got pending order
to sell 10 pounds worth of coinbase
shares when it opens on monday now
what's great about trading 212 is you
don't just have stocks and shares you
can also buy and sell etfs which i'll
just quickly show you how you can find
them click the little search function on
the left hand side you can see currently
it's on all instruments but you can
actually sort it down into stocks or
etfs so you click the etfs you can then
dive down even deeper into different
types so you've got most popular equity
funds inverse funds real estate funds
commodity funds and fixed income funds
trading two and two has a large variety
of etfs that you can invest in and that
is how you can buy and sell stocks and
shares on the trading 212 platform you
