So, you're looking to sell your antiques and you're not quite sure where to go. I'm Blake
Kennedy from Kennedy Brothers Estate Services and I'm here to help. Selling antiques is
pretty difficult when you're not quite sure who to call. You can put that ad in the newspaper
and describe what you have and then put a price on it and hope that you got the right
price, and then you get everybody in the world calling you and wanting to come over to your
house to look at your items, but that is one way to sell it, but it's kind of a headache.
You want to make sure first of all you know what you have and what you expect for it.
A lot of people go but this is what I paid for it, and this is what I'd like to get for
it. But you got to understand, you bought it for a reason for your own house. So if
you can sell it to an end user, to somebody else that have always admired that antique,
call them up and give them a shot. And say I know you've always liked this particular
piece. I'm looking to get rid of it, I'm downsizing, are you interested in buying for it? 'Cause
you remember what you paid for it, you know give them a good deal on it also. But if you
just need to get rid of things quick, you can call up any antique shop, and understand
that the antique dealers are there to make money, that's how they make their money. A
lot of them they call it doubling up if they offer you two hundred dollars on it, you can
kind of think that it's probably four hundred, but again. They're there, that's how they
make their money, they got to pay their overhead of their shops, their advertising, but that
is a quick way to sell your antiques by calling them, calling the antique shops. Another way
is if you're good with the digital cameras, put them online. There's a lot of people selling
antiques online, but you know, you want to make sure you measure the piece, just tell
them exactly what it is, make sure there's - if it has a chip or a crack in it, let
them know, because you certainly don't want that returned, you get a little bit higher
price on that because you have people all around the world bidding on it, not just you
know trying to sell it localized. But you know, make your phone calls and realize what
you're selling, if something sounds too good to be true when somebody makes you an offer
on something, you might want to just step back and make sure that you really know what
you are selling and if they don't give you a good feeling when they're trying to buy
it, then just say you'll have to get back with them. Good luck trying to sell that antique
furniture. I'm Blake Kennedy.
