so when i started social media designs
i didn't really at the time decide that
i was starting a business
i was gifted a sewing machine about
eight years prior to starting social
media designs you know as a stay-at-home
mom i had two kiddos
and i felt like i really needed
something for myself
and thought i'm pregnant with my third
child and
thought
well i'm gonna i'm gonna make her a
blanket i took out the sewing machine i
didn't know the first thing about sewing
i
had to google how to thread that sewing
machine i threaded the sewing machine up
i went to the store i bought a flannel
with a minky and i cut it up i pinned it
together and i taught myself how to sew
i didn't really know the difference
between different fabrics and the
challenges of different fabrics
so i taught myself on minke and i made
my first blanket i made a couple
blankets for my older kiddos made a
blanket for my husband
made a few odds and ends things
to the point that i actually felt really
good about what i was making and you
know maybe maybe somebody would want to
buy this to be honest i didn't really
have the money just to keep spending
money on fabric and i thought if
somebody else bought it i could keep
sewing and continue to learn that skill
so i opened up a small facebook page you
know i would make two blankets
and then i would post them on local yard
sale pages i'd sell those and then i
would buy enough fabric to make four
blankets i would take that money and go
buy eight blankets then i just kept
building and building and building upon
that
and every time i sewed it got a little
bit better and a little bit better and a
little bit better
i got to a place that was really fun and
exciting that i was able to start making
other products i was able to teach
myself how to make car seat accessories
crib accessories so bumper pads crib
sheets and crib skirts and all those
types of things
and i was able to continue to work on my
skill of sewing and continuing to
self-teach
about a year year and a half in where i
thought
you know
maybe so sweet is a company and to this
point it was really just a hobby i
finally had decided you know what maybe
maybe we should open up an etsy shop and
i think this is when so sweet got really
exciting for me because i had opened up
this etsy shop and i remember for the
first time making a tangible goal
as to what i wanted to accomplish on
etsy and how much i wanted to sell per
month and what that would look like and
if that was something that was possible
rather than just selling everything on
facebook marketplace when i hired the
first person to come and help me sew
and i remember when we got up to three
people who were helping me sew three
seamstresses and then five seamstresses
and then 12 seamstresses
that first christmas party that we had
was 22 seamstresses and their spouses
and i remember that being such a
wonderful experience where i realized
that not only could so sweet be
something and possibly become a business
but be something that enriched and
helped many many people's lives in the
same way that it helped me in my life
and i was able to be around such
incredible
amazing women who were willing to
pursue this endeavor with me
and to build a business with me
and were so willing to offer their
expertise and helping us to be
better in every way that we could be
today at our current numbers we have
over 250 seamstresses we have over 50
people who do our fabric cutting
over 100 employees
and collectively able to we are able to
bless the lives of over 400 families and
people who work at so sweet minky
designs i just want to say thank you so
much for
watching this video for giving me the
chance to
tell you about so sweet for my passion
for so sweet where we're headed and
where we're going and all the all of the
exciting things that we have going on
it's so sweet thanks for being here
