hi there everybody my name is Richard
McMunn from the interview training
company past my interview comm and in
this tutorial I will teach you how to
pass an NHS manager interview so it does
not matter which particular manager role
you're being interviewed for within the
NHS please do watch the video from
beginning to end because it will make a
significant difference to your
preparation I will give you some really
important tips to help you prepare for
your NHS manager interview but more
importantly I will give you some sample
questions and high scoring answers now
before I get into those a very warm
welcome to this interview training
tutorial as I say my name is Richard
McMunn that's me there in the centre
I've been helping people for about 20
years to pass their interviews and I do
that primarily by giving you top scoring
answers please do make sure you
subscribe to the channel by clicking the
red button below the video you will not
miss out then on any of the weekly
interview training videos I'm uploading
and I would also appreciate it if you
gave the video a thumbs up thank you
very much that always motivates me to
create more content so in preparation
for your NHS manager interview you and I
need to make sure that you demonstrate
the following key skills and attributes
because you are applying to become a
manager in a large multi-talented and
complex organization and such as the NHS
and therefore you need to demonstrate a
unique set of skills you need
outstanding communication and
interpersonal skills excuse me because
you're going to be you know managing a
wide range of people from different
departments but also dealing with
stakeholders and clients who have a
vested interest in the NHS you also need
to demonstrate exceptional
organizational and multitasking
capabilities because you will not just
have one task or project to complete
there will be lots of them you need to
demonstrate leadership and change
abilities with an understanding of the
change management process and I will
explain that during this video but
essentially the NHS changes all of the
time that's what makes it unique and
it's such a great organization but you
need to be able to lead people and you
know direct them through the change
process strong work ethics whilst
continually working to high professional
standards the ability to motivate and
lead a team of people those are really
important to be able to maintain
confidentiality at all times in line
with the relevant and HS code of conduct
you have to make effective decisions
whilst you are under pressure and also
have a determined and resolute approach
to your work and your projects so the
following NHS manager interview
questions all the answers that I'm going
to provide you with combined those key
skills and attributes to help you score
highly so the first question during your
NHS manager interview tell me about
yourself
and why you will make a good manager for
the NHS here's my suggested answer make
sure you take notes I am a focused
enthusiastic and highly organized
manager who takes great pride in my
ability to help my employer achieve
their organisational aims now having
strong values and ethics and also having
a desire to work in a large
multi-talented organization like the NHS
I believe I will make a great manager
because I am calm under pressure I am
able to motivate people to get the most
out of them and also able to manage and
deliver multiple tasks and projects all
at once I fully appreciate that with
being a manager in the NHS there comes a
huge amount of responsibility I am not
only ready for the challenge that lies
ahead but I am also eager to prove to
you my worth as a strong and impactive
manager within your organisation what I
like about that particular answer is the
fact that it is detailed it sort of
provides a large number of key skills
and qualities that I feel are important
within the NHS such as you know working
achieving projects whilst under pressure
motivating people and also delivering on
multiple tasks and projects those are
really important so because it's the
first interview question of your NHS
manager interview you want to make sure
that you get off on the right footing
and I believe that type of response will
achieve just that next question why do
you want to work for the
HS so they want to understand why you've
chosen to work as a manager for the NHS
because as I said at the beginning you
know you need a unique set of skills
because it's a unique organization so we
need to be careful in our response to
this question here's my answer
I want to work for the NHS as and
managers simply because my own personal
values are a strong match for those of
the NHS for example I will work with my
team to ensure everything we do is
focused on a commitment to quality of
care helping to improve people's lives
on also ensuring we work for everyone
inclusively regardless of their
background their circumstances or their
beliefs in order for the NHS to be
effective in its strategic aims and
goals
it requires its managers to lead by
example and I am ready to do exactly
that
what's focusing intently on the NHS
values that are at the core of
everything it does that's a good answer
because you are focusing it on the NHS
values which I believe you will be asked
a question around at some stage during
your interview so let's tackle that one
right now tell me what you understand
about the NHS values and how you will
apply them within this managerial role
so here we go here's my answer there are
six NHS values and these are working
together for patience respect and
dignity commitment to quality of care
compassion improving lives and everyone
counts their values underpin everything
the talented and passionate people of
the NHS do on a daily basis and it would
be vital that I to put them at the core
of my work whilst performing my duties
as a manager I would apply all of them
within my work by assessing how I can
align them within each team task or
project I am responsible for in managing
for example if I'm working on a project
and someone suggests there is a cheaper
more cost-effective way of doing things
I would only agree to do this if it did
not undermine our commitment to quality
of care and also our commitment to
improving patients lives so that shows
that you understand the values make sure
that you do look at the NHS values for
the particular trust that you're
applying for but those are the generic
six core NHS values and you need to put
them at the core of everything you do
now I've got two more questions to go
through but if you want to download my
full
set of 23 NHS manager interview
questions and answers there's a link
that's appeared in the top right hand
corner of that video if you click that
when you're ready it'll take you through
to my website where you can download the
full set of answers to all of these
questions here's another one what
qualities are needed to become an
effective NHS manager so what qualities
are needed here's my answer I believe
there are a large number of essential
qualities needed to become an effective
manager in the NHS and these are an
ability to manage multiple tasks
concurrently whilst working to the
highest standards achievable an ability
to manage your team and motivate them to
be the best they possibly can be a
desire to provide exceptional value for
money whilst continually looking for
ways to improve and also a desire to put
patients first in everything you do you
also need a commitment to the NHS trusts
mission and values and an understanding
that to achieve change within an
organisation the size and complexity of
the NHS you must be patient determined
and resilient that's a great answer next
question describe a situation when you
had to work with a team of people and
convince them to do something they
didn't want to do okay
so here we go I was working in a
previous role as a manager managing a
team of people who'd been through many
changes over the years now it was clear
they were tired they would demotivated
and they also lacked ambition I started
off by speaking to them collectively to
get a feel as to how they all felt the
team was performing the challenges they
were facing and also what was important
to each of them as individuals this
proved to be a worthwhile exercise as it
enabled me to assess what motivated the
team and also what the strengths and
weaknesses were of each team member and
then created a plan of action for the
team to work towards with specific tasks
allocated to team members based on their
strengths and their ambitions and then
supported the team helped them to
overcome challenges as they arose and
also praise them whenever they achieved
key milestones or goals now by being a
hands-on caring and understanding
manager I was able to motivate the team
and guide them to successfully
completing projects again in line with
the organisation's strategic goals
that's a answer to a difficult
behavioral interview
question but it's a great answer and it
uses what's called the star technique
now what I want to do is quickly show
you my 23 NHS manager interview

prepare for and the link to these is
