hi is this Brad good afternoon Friday
it's Chris from a nerds world I'm doing
loss now a good time to talk yeah
wonderful I pulled up your website and
I'm here to answer any questions that
you might have very cool so some context
additional rotation physical location
this saga okay years later I help them
scale open up their second location
downtown Toronto cleavage on streets of
the director of marketing working
directly with the co-founders co-owners
and really my question for you is
Facebook around on and off page SEO
currently seven pages total the website
including the home page yes not
including the temporary gift card
sectional TV removes and really the
local NGO function of downtown auto shop
so if you look up
page one the local pack as well as the
actual on pages well lake all that the
Google search result
yeah will you look
it appears a lot a lot later on and our
goal is to get it to where the
Mississauga location is so that's where
I wanted to jump into a conversation you
would see where some of that guiding and
strategy work of it yeah for sure I have
currently all your stats in front of me
a so if there's any specific questions
that you have I can I can definitely
answer them for you but I'll I'll just
give you a brief overview of what I see
at first glance the first part which is
not the best as the website is built
with Squarespace yes that will hinder
you to a certain extent that being said
it's absolutely possible to do local SEO
Squarespace website I do see that you
are ranking first page for Mississauga
related terms
the biggest issue is your you're on the
5th 6th 7th and 11th place which is not
quite the 1st and 2nd place which is
what we're sort of pushing for the good
news is that you are getting a ranking
in Mississauga and my recommendation
would be to get it to that first place
which wouldn't be overly difficult the
majority of the time it would start by
adding more content to those pages and
working on backlinks but that would be
the sort of the way we look at it from a
metaphorical standpoint is every keyword
is its own competition so what we
normally do is sit with a client or talk
over the phone and decide on which words
are gonna bring you the greatest value
the most you know potential clients that
will hopefully end up becoming long-term
return clients so in what we do is every
single key word one by one we build a
strategy based on that key word and
based on the competitors that are
currently ranking higher than you for
that key word so for example
right now it has searched 2400 times per
month and you're in fifth position so
you're getting a very very little bit of
that traffic but there's huge
opportunities with knowing statistically
2400 people are typing that in so what I
would do is I would look at the four
company websites that are ranking higher
than you and figure out what they're
doing better than you online and work
out a strategy on how you could beat
them that's one example with SEO that we
provide it's all completely custom I'll
be up front we have pricing and packages
on our website it's more a show of what
we're capable of doing when somebody
comes to us we ask them one of two
things what's your goal and most people
goal is to get good traffic and rank
higher and the second question we ask is
what is the budget like what are you
looking to spend which is always the
most difficult question in the world to
ask a stranger which I understand but
that sort of dictates on how much
involvement we can have as a company and
it sort of directs like are we doing the
work are we doing half of the work and
you're doing half the work or are we
more so giving you homework and
directing you and you're doing the work
and all three of those options are 100%
possible our goal is the same as your
goal is just to get a positive return on
investment and more people to your
website so we're never going to try to
sell you something that you don't need
or maybe you know something that you
don't have a budget for and I don't want
that to sound bad at all that's not my
intention but I mean I I see a million
ways that we can just kill the
competition period and not just in
Mississauga
in Toronto as well that being said
you're already ranking for the
Mississauga term so that's what I would
just concur that right away and then I
would look at Toronto and I would do the
same but the number one issue I see is
just a lack of content on your website
you really need to bulk it up and create
landing pages for all the keywords
because currently I don't know how much
you know about SEO I should have been
one of my questions but currently you're
only targeting 148 keywords when
you should be targeting you know 14800
keywords and that's where you that's why
your traffic is is is not as great as it
could be so we're referring to fourteen
thousand keywords literally talking
about incorporating certain themes
across the website according to that
particular word and building up content
caters that specific word so yes but I
the last thing I want to do is saturate
your website with nonsense to the
average person that comes to your
website they're looking for I'm guessing
a list of the services you provide may
be price points and a contact number in
an address so for those people I want to
make sure that the user experience is
spot-on and they can find what they're
looking for real quick what I'm talking
to you about is creating landing pages a
landing I'm sorry I'm just going to turn
this live chat off one second please
what I'm referring to is a landing page
a landing page is a page that's
specifically set up in order to generate
new traffic to your website so for
example if you wanted to cater to
that we would find out what the five
terms are for people searching for that
service in Toronto and for each of those
terms we would create a landing page now
the only way you find that landing page
or anyone finds that landing page is if
they go to Google or Bing and they type
in that exact keyword it will bring them
to that landing page you got it
yes yeah and this is huge you know I've
been studying SEO for 16 years
landing pages have always been hugely
popular for me they work it's a very
little bit of effort that it requires in
order to put a page together but I mean
once a page is set up you really don't
have to do anything once it starts
ranking you just let it sit and you know
the return on investment could be within
a month and that will continue to
generate traffic for years and years to
come I just I just times the current
number that you had by a hundred or and
just saying that the opportunities are
really endless it's an infinite number
the sense that we're discussing right
now yes though realistically and I don't
you know footage bread and startups
replica bread would Ted mean it's gonna
bury you know the space you know the
marketing space making so it's gonna
vary according to what the needs are but
now when it comes down to an overarching
average priority downtown toronto
mississauga is important as well the
priorities downtown Toronto so the
accrue to put downtown Toronto first
order to get ideally into the local pack
the top of the page of the map and as
well as ideally work our ways of being
on you know page one eventually what are
we looking at in terms of what we a
tight investment on your editor team
dead can you give me who would be can
you give me a domain or a business
downtown that you would consider as
being sort of the number one so I can
just take a look at what we're doing
so what I'm gonna do is just gonna pull
up their stats and give them a direct
comparison with where you're currently
at and that will give me a better
understanding what I actually do an
audit I pull up normally three to five
competitors but just because we're on
the phone I'll just pull these stats
quickly just one moment please
now when you said that they're one of
the the players let's say is it because
they're well-known is because of their
craft or is it because maybe you can
just tell me why you would consider them
definitely the quality of their work
give it and also the discoverability
factor my feeling is they also have you
know these develop fabulous because they
have done a few collaborations and you
know NBA for example so they've had to
solve the placement and overarching you
earn media attention that then allowed
them to gain up on that momentum if that
in addition to that of just going back
to incognito mode
so would appear for me yes I well I have
the stats in front of me and I just made
some quick notes on a piece of paper and
I can walk you through what I see
sorry just on my call it's gonna take me
10 minutes
thank you I'll tell you what I see when
it comes to backlinks you're like right
right on you have 200 or so you have 115
backlinks and they have 113 so you're
pretty much dead on keywords you're
targeting 148 keywords they're targeting
219 keywords so I mean that's you're
pretty much dead on as well now where
the difference lies is your traffic last
month was 287 people and our traffic was
two point seven thousand people and
everything that I'm talking about right
now is not direct traffic it's not
referral traffic I'm specifically
talking about the people that went to
Google type something in and went to the
website so this is all organic traffic
so this is where this is where their
traffic is coming from and I can see
like December 2018 I would have to look
into it but they had one month where
they had almost 16,000 visitors
organically which it could have been a
collaboration it could have been in the
news but it's sort of proof proof to the
pudding I don't know how you want to put
it that that type of thing does work and
it does generate a lot of traffic to the
website but I'll get into this a little
deeper the way they're generating
traffic is specifically on their brand
itself like the name of their brand
because yeah I'm looking at where the
traffic is coming from and out of the
two point seven thousand people that
found their website organically eighty
percent of them plus typed in their name
directly in Google yeah yeah that that
being said right that's a huge reason
why you really want to build the brand
name and I think it's a competitive
market but I don't think I don't think
it's impossible by any means to go back
to what I
sort of predicted to take I don't know
like when we start a project and we've
never dealt with a client before
anything that I give is sort of just a
guess until we actually do a month's
worth of SEO to sort of figure out how
easy or difficult certain keywords are
we we don't know that being said the way
we structure our pricing is month by
month so we do it for our many different
reasons as part of my sales pitch is
that you're going to be pleased with the
work that we do month one or you fire us
at the end of month one there's no
penalty you're not losing anything that
gives you the right as a client to
demand excellency in communication and
the second reason is month one really
gives us an opportunity to find out how
difficult that those keywords are we
don't have any
so if we worked with you you would be
the only one we would never you know
create competition amongst our own
clients and that for that reason I don't
know I couldn't give you an honest
prediction I can tell you the average
person you'll see results month one it
doesn't necessarily mean first place
results but what we do is take a
screenshot of what your current rankings
are and the current number of keywords
you're targeting and then we show you
where we are after 30 days so you could
also go incognito and see those jumps
but on our stats package that we use it
shows you a green arrow and shows you
how many spots you've jumped during the
30 days and that's what we submit to our
clients during the month and upon
completion of month one but for example
if you came to us and you said this is
what my budget is month one it doesn't
necessarily have to be the same budget
month two two and three etc the way we
sell our service is we say that all the
work is the same quality our SEO team
here like specific full-time is three
people we have a big team of web
developers that are also here that help
us with building stuff that we need and
we build a custom strategy based on the
actual amount of money that you can
allocate to the project so had you come
to us and said my budgets a thousand
dollars and I would sit down and pull
all the stats in detail and really come
up with a strategy that's like a
checklist of what we would complete in
month one but it wouldn't be similar to
any other strategy that we've ever done
it's going to be all based on actual
factual stats and what your competitors
are doing because we can see literally
everything no I use well I use semrush
yeah I use some rush and I've been using
it a long time but it's more so of what
I'm looking for opposed to the tool like
the tool doesn't have any tricks it just
lets me see what keywords you're
targeting or third targeting I'm just a
strong believer in reverse engineering
success so I look at what they're doing
and what they're doing successful and I
just beat them
and it's a fun game for me and and and
it's really it's become an addiction
three but how do you deal with that yeah
we just say no okay we're out front we
deal with one person now if they come to
us from Vancouver our clients SEO
clients are worldwide so we're not going
to say that whenever
we would never deal with one of your
competitors so if somebody called us
from Hamilton then we would work with
them if it's toronto mississauga if
that's your locations then we would not
work with them just the conversation
he's had put together a realistic budget
that could actually you know provide
some fuel to that get things moving it
meant let you go in the next the
logarithms but you know within a week is
to what we would want to do now the work
or does your team work on an hourly
basis how did that work
yes so when we're putting a strategy
together it's based on the budget and it
is somewhat of an estimate but based on
the budget I sort of work out how many
hours we can allocate and so it's not
down to the minute or anything like that
when I put my strategy together we often
go over the number of hours but there's
never an additional cost so it's more
like an internal way of judging how I
should lay out what a strategy is
opposed to like a stop clock being hit
but time does the budget does equal the
amount of time put into the project
meaning the amount of things that we can
sort of check off our list on a monthly
basis it's more so like like I can give
you general knowledge but without being
hired and actually doing the deep dive
and coming up with it I don't have
anything specific and I and I sort of
frown upon I see a lot of the
competitors have like a document that
they send to everyone and it's the same
we won't call it nonsense but it's it's
just fluff you know I'm gonna get you
ten backlinks I'm gonna get you ten
pages of content and it's not what
businesses really need because what you
need is not what the next door neighbor
needs so well I'm just a strong believer
in creating a completely custom strategy
so I don't have sort of a cookie cutter
package I don't mind talking to them if
there's any specific questions or
talking to you but I don't have a
specific package until we're hired and
that's when we actually put the package
together okay so what I'll do is just
relay the information of you decided
about a URL through that it's all good
I'm just curious is there any kind of
you know humblebrag to some things that
was any included in the mix just to
showcase in addition so you always your
well-spoken dude in addition to what
we're talking about now did you show
them what you've done previously but I'm
sure that's discoverable yeah the terms
that we rank first forward personally
any web development terms that you type
in Google we're number one any logo
design related terms and SEO Toronto is
the most competitive word and most of
the year I'd say ten months out of every
twelve were number one I think we might
be number two right now but you got to
realize like we're a team of three
competing against these other people
it's more like a factory where as
clients come in
we're very personal you get to meet the
whole team because we're in Toronto so
even if it's not in person there's no
outsourcing and you actually have a team
that cares about your project because
we're accountable you can look us in the
eye so I mean what we're what we're
known for it is good quality SEO that
gets real results around the world I'm
very confident in our ability and that's
why sort of without saying beg our first
month of the relationship is hugely
important and that's where I find that
we gain the most trust from our clients
is because after month one they're like
okay look I got a return I'm getting
traffic I trust them based on
communication and sort of that's where
we shine in month one that that that
gives us the opportunity to show what
we're capable of internally we have a
team of about 30 people here at our
physical location so there's a little
bit of everything as for how it would
work
given a project manager which is your
SEO expert it's either a gentleman named
Ming or a lady named Gail and I sort of
supervised everything but there the
actual doers so they both physically sit
in our location and they're giving the
projects I give them direction and they
complete the mission if you ever had any
questions there's no appointment needed
you can just pick up the phone or come
in person and talk to them directly
about your project they can pull up
stats in real time and if you ever
wanted to talk to me I'm here as well
okay by the way the island are you a
massive fan of the bread I have a couple
items anything really this this phone
number that I called from is this Medina
retail store this is where I work the
far majority of the time but even if you
send an email just put the subject Chris
will relay it to me right away so I I
get it within a few moments nerd nerd at
a nerds world calm there's only two of
us have accessed my wife and I so that
is our personal email that's how we
talked about the pricing we talked about
how we move forward together sort of a
guideline oh yeah we're we're on the
ball and so if you if you came up with a
budget then same day literally if even
if it means staying late I put together
a strategy just to show the excitement
and starting a new new relationship I
would pull all the key words I would put
actual stats package together that's
handcrafted opposed to cookie cutter and
I would literally put a checklist
together right on the spot and I would
give you the direct comparison with your
clients and everything would be very
very specific so you have that checklist
in front you
and month 2 for example sorry for
cutting you off month 2 for example
would be some completely custom again
the strategy that I'm giving is only for
a month 1 months who would be completely
different based on the results for a
month 1 that would then dictate what I
would recommend month - yeah as a team
we do it we sit down every morning and
come up with strategies and ideas so we
have three sort of set of eyes on the
project but because I've been doing this
so long it only takes me a good hour to
come up with a real strategy so it
doesn't take me a long time and I do the
farm majority of them myself yeah and
you know what even without saying that I
have charts here that show me absolutely
everything so they'll show me who Google
looks at as competitors and then it was
pretty neat is they actually categorize
you not just you any industry so even
people that you might think are
competitors if they're too far ahead of
you in traffic rule it won't look at
them as competitors so there's actually
a chart here that I I have and it's I
don't know how to put it so almost like
different leagues
so as you conquer one league it will
jump you into the new league and show
you who the competitors then are in and
around that bracket of organic traffic
that you're getting so it's actually
quite exciting so I do have all those
right in front of me actually right now
as we speak no were they actually all
you're seeing directions would recommend
yes okay alright buddy so appreciate it
I will then send an email back go by the
budget and then we'll come forward
sounds good if you don't mind I'll just
put around this time next week I'll just
add your name to the calendar and if I
don't hear from you in a week I'll just
send you a friendly follow up yeah all
right thank you for your time sir have a
wonderful day okay
