[Music]
hey guys it's Joe here and today I'm
telling you how to market yourself
publish book we are going to be talking
about three things you can do before you
publish your book and three things you
can do after your book is out if you are
interested in videos about marketing I
make videos every Friday and my series
called frozen focus where I tell you how
to build and monetize your personal
brand so make sure that you go subscribe
to my channel and your notification belt
is turned on let me know in the comments
down below one way that you plan to
market your self-published book and also
if you miss the first video and my
self-publishing series go watch it it
tells you how to self publish your book
in ten steps and that's more about the
writing process the brainstorming
process and how to actually get it from
a manuscript to physical but also one
last note before we get started so many
of you guys who watch my last video have
been emailing me and asking me to look
over your book or help you with the
process and because of that I'm just
setting up a small consultation service
where you can pay to work with me for 30
minutes or an hour on your
self-publishing plan your marketing plan
anything like that I am here to help but
since there's so many requests it has to
be streamlined through this process so
if you're someone interested in that it
will be linked down below I just wanted
to let you know so let's start with the
things that you should be doing before
your book is even published so the first
thing you should do which could be
before you even start writing is
figuring out who your target audience is
you need to know who your reader persona
is and when I say this I mean you need
to think about one person and give that
person a name let's name that person
Cynthia and let's say Cynthia is your
target reader
persona you needed to figure out what
Cynthia does on a daily basis what types
of book she's interested in how does she
consume her media outside of books issue
on Facebook Instagram tick-tock where
does she do that you want to figure out
you know her spending habits does she
like ebooks audiobooks all the stuff
that might pertain to how you are
getting your book into Cynthia's hands
so obviously you shouldn't just pull all
this stuff out of the blue some of it
will pertain to you know your age and
your audience's age some of it will
pertain to your interests and what the
book is about but also you shouldn't be
thinking of all this stuff you should
actually survey your audience and the
people around you who you think the book
is for and actually get the answers
directly from them so I recommend a
couple of different softwares for using
surveys free is Google Forms but also if
you are in marketing or public relations
you might have used Qualtrics which is a
paid platform I've used both both are
great but go the free route make a
Google Form and think of questions you
can search marketing surveys PR surveys
to kind of get idea of what types of
questions you should be asking them and
those questions and those answers that
you get will help you through every step
of the marketing process so the second
thing that you can be doing before your
self-published book even launches is to
start building your email list and start
thinking up if you start building your
email list and to start building your
launch funnel so when I say build your
email list I mean that you need to be
working with an email provider whether
that's MailChimp mail or like convertkit
leadpages there's so many different
platforms out there and I'll have them
linked down below where you can open an
account and then make a landing page
where people will click and show up on
where they will type in their email to
get updates about the book to know when
it launches and so you have a direct way
to communicate to your audience
let's be real social media less than 30%
less than probably 10% of your audience
is seeing the content that you put out
there and email have an email has such a
higher open rate and engagement rate
than social media and when it's time to
sell the book you can literally just
press a button and everyone who was
interested in the book before even
launch will get a notification and they
can go buy the book
so let's say you've already tried this
and you're not getting emails one thing
you can do to sweeten the deal for
people joining your email list is to add
a relevant freebie when they opt-in so
when I say this I mean make a worksheet
or a guide or some quick tips for people
that will be sent to them once they
agree to put in their email so you can
say get my free guide on meal prepping
and they will enter that email and get
that free guide and then when your book
comes out it's all about healthy recipes
for you know people interested in
fitness and a healthy lifestyle so make
sure it is a relevant freebie and if you
guys are interested in seeing how to
make a freebie for your email opt-in
list it's let me know in the comments
down below because that can definitely
be a video of topic for my next frozen
focus Friday so my third tip for book
marketing before your self-published
book is even out is to establish your
online presence this is so important so
right off the bat when you have the name
of your books make sure you get the
domain name and build a website for it I
can also make a video on how to build a
website for your book if you're
interested in that comment that down
below also make sure that you get all of
your social media handles on Facebook
Instagram Twitter
tik-tok get it on everything because you
do not want to go to get down the road
and someone else has it and also make
sure you have all of those things for
yourself as well because people will
probably be looking you up as an author
but it's not enough just to have all of
these places secure online you need to
actually make content that is relevant
to your book on that plaque
almost daily until the release of the
book and even after the release of the
book I do not want to go on your
Instagram pages and see content about
your beauty routine when you're about to
launch a self-help book down the road
you should be making content about
self-help every day and and then well
look you're making a book about
self-help so the same thing goes for me
when I launch my self-published book you
got into where which is a college
admissions guide for high school
students the whole year leading up to
the book coming out I was making video
content blog content about how to get
into college and how to get scholarships
and then a year later I launched the
book and was able to sell copies because
I built a audience who was already
interested in those things if you're
starting from zero make sure you go to
other videos on YouTube but I might have
on building your social media audience I
have videos on getting your first level
thousand subscribers add videos on
content planning all that stuff that
we've already covered in my frozen focus
series which is posted on Fridays so now
that we've gone over the things you need
to be doing before your book comes out
let's get into some marketing tips if
your book is already out or it's
releasing very soon so the tip number
one four things to do after your book is
out is creating in-person events or
participating in speaking engagement
let's just say social media is not your
thing in-person interaction is not off
the table you can have a launch party
for your book where you invite your
friends and family and then tell them
all to bring a plus-one you can also
just find relevant conferences and
events happening in your city that
relate to your books topic and request
to be a speaker or be a vendor there
where you can sell your book there are
so many different options for in-person
events and speaking you can also partner
with other self-published authors and do
a collaborative thing if budget is
something that you're worried about so
there's so many different ways you can
engage your audience in person by doing
book signings author meetups you know
working with independent bookstores to
you know show up and do things like that
the there are so many possibilities when
it comes to in-person experiences my
second tip for things to do after your
book is out to market is using Facebook
or Google advertising to market your
book now this is something that if
you're not knowledgeable about now you
might have to either hire someone who is
knowledgeable in that area or take a
course to learn about Facebook Ads if I
personally took a six-week course called
the power launch virtual marketing
accelerator and this teaches you how to
utilize Facebook and Instagram ads to
grow your business so I will link that
down below just because some of you guys
might be interested in it but it's a
very thorough course so if you don't
have the time to do that consider
finding someone who is knowledgeable in
the space and working with them to build
out Facebook and Instagram ads to target
the people in your reader persona that
we talked about earlier in the video so
my last and final tip for marketing your
book is to work with traditional media
and influencers and basically just
building out a public relations strategy
for your book once again this is all of
these things that I've been listening
today in core hire a lot of work it's
not just something that's gonna be done
overnight so I don't want you to
overwhelm so see if there's anyone in
your network that can help you with this
if you don't know how to do these things
and I am one person in your network and
I have my link down below to work with
me directly if you have way more
questions but working with traditional
media might include you know getting
featured in a magazine getting on a TV
show different things like that and
working with influencers would entail
gifting influencers your book and
exchange for reviews comments and kind
of just for them to show their audience
your book so that's how you can get some
extra eyes on your book and that's
something you can engage with long after
your book has been published as long as
the information inside is still relevant
so I just went through six ways you can
market yourself published book three of
those were before your book is published
and three of those were after your book
is published so I hope this is helpful
for you guys
I was so long to make a part two to my
first self-publishing video but it reach
a hundred thousand for you so I know I
had to give you guys more content that
is related to self-publishing
you can also check out my book and
workbook so I actually saw published two
things I saw published a book in a
workbook and they they're both called
you got into where and it's basically
like I said a guide for high school
students and parents who are trying to
get a mission and scholarships to their
top universities so I'll have that link
down below
tons of things will be linked down below
but then you guys so much for watching
supporting this channel and I wish you
the best of luck and your
self-publishing journey so I'll talk to
you guys next time bye
