i figured that if a man can tape a molding banana to a wall
and sell it for a hundred and twenty thousand dollars so can i

please do consider subscribing uh you don't have to do it just just really think about it
um and then i'll be happy before i start today's video i just want to very quickly say there will
be a giveaway at the end for people who are artistically inclined so if you are an artist
or an art student please stay till the end um there's a little a little something something
going on instagram second channel twitch follow me on there uh if you miss my face in between
uploads i also want to give a massive thank you to everyone who left a like and a comment on my
latest video it massively helps me out in terms of the youtube algorithm and i'm just very very
grateful if you fancy helping me out some more please consider repeating those actions on this
one today we're talking about abstract cell and i'm sure most of you have had some run-ins
with abstract art in the past but if not i thought we'd just go over it real quick abstract
art it's also known as non-objective art or non-representational art and it's an art form in
which the visual representation of things in the real world play absolutely no part there's just
nothing abstract art finds its origins in the 19th century and it was born out of a period
known as romanticism now the romanticism movement basically put forward the idea that art
didn't need to be realistic it didn't need to be an imitation of the real world instead it
should be about freedom of expression and you know splodges it's just more about how you're
feeling rather than what you're seeing and that's basically how i would summarize abstract art
in about one minute the thing about abstract art is that it often it produces some very very
heated emotions in some people and normally for the wrong reasons it is very very widely known
that within mainstream culture a lot of people just completely reject abstract art as art at all
and that's because you get things like you know the banana tape to the wall and it's
it's kind of hard to justify why that is worth a hundred and twenty thousand dollars i'm sure
some art dealer somewhere can you know conjure up how it's a a metaphor for human degradation and
suffering um but still i'm not going to pay 120 000 for you know a molding banana partially
because i don't have 120 000 um but also because if i wanted a moulding banana i would just go to
my kitchen a lot of people argue that abstract art requires absolutely no skill and they just
have these insane price tags for no reason and it got me thinking right dangerous i know
wanting obscene amounts of money and having absolutely no skill are two of my most crucial
personality traits and so i realized that you know maybe abstract art has been my calling all along
at this point i do just want to very quickly say that i don't believe that abstract art is
you know a skillless medium when you look at a jackson pollock painting for example
even though it looks like a complete mess of color and textures it looks intentional so even though
the colors seem random and the placement seems erratic every single thing looks like it's exactly
where it should be and the ability to seamlessly sew together seemingly dissimilar textures and
colors is an incredible skill there's a really interesting quote by maurice dennis said in 1890
and i feel like it's the perfect counter to anyone who you know says that abstract art isn't art and
the quote goes as such it should be remembered that a picture before being a war horse a nude
or an anecdote of some sort is essentially a flat surface covered with colours assembled in
a certain order and i feel like that perfectly sums up that all art is art whether you like the
way in which the paint is arranged or not however for the purpose of this video i'm going to adopt
the mindset of you know many people and assume that abstract artists is that actually easy um
because otherwise you know this video would make no sense so i decided that i would make a piece of
abstract art and attempt to sell it for mad cash but before we get into me securing my artistic bag
i'd like to first secure my video bag by having a brief interlude with the sponsor of this video
i want to talk about the sponsor of today's video wondershare filmora 10. when i first
started making youtube videos one of the biggest problems i had was editing just working out
how to do it how we choppy choppy is very difficult wondershare filmora 10 is incredibly
popular amongst beginners and also experienced video editors because it's super easy to use
some of the new features that they've added to wondershare filmora 10 include audio ducking key
framing and motion tracking i think particularly for new creators the feature of audio ducking is
especially useful because it helps to smooth out the audio to create a consistent sound throughout
it's a really easy way to step up the quality of your content without really having to do anything
it's pretty impressive and speaking of ways to step up your content with very little effort
wondershare filmora 10 comes with a huge music library of royalty-free music which
means that you don't have to worry about getting copyright striked which
is it's the bane of every single creator's life it's painful
so very painful now is a really great time to start a new hobby so if you've ever thought
about becoming a content creator or video editing in general i highly recommend that you
go but i downl like that alone qualifies me to negotiate and i have negotiated
a banging deal for the chance to win a one-year license huge freebie all you have to do is reply
to my pinned comment down below and let me know what you think of filmora and what kind
of content you'd be editing on it but keep it pg alright i don't want to hear about anything
other than you know home movies wait that sounds even worse and once you've done that just pop the
create with film or a hashtag on the end and the lovely team over at filmora will choose one of you
to win a one-year license everyone say thank you filmora for sponsoring today's video
you may now watch the rest of the video bye
hello everyone welcome to my makeshift art studio otherwise known as my kitchen table
i'm gonna paint an abstract canvas today i got a canvas board instead of like a thick one
um just for transportation purposes this was a lot easier to walk with so i've never done this starla
art before so i did a couple of practice ones um and they didn't go incredible so i did this one um
not really sure what to make of that i did order some like painting spatulas like painting tools
um but they they didn't arrive yet so i've got a knife we'll just give it a go and try
you know we'll try and we'll see what happens i'm so nervous because i'm not good at art
and i am a massive perfectionist and the problem with that my brain just cannot accept
anything less than perfection um and when you're learning a new skill particularly like art
unless you're some kind of weird monet prodigy um chances are you're not going to be very good at it
art is one of those things that i think a lot of people think it doesn't take a lot to be good at
but it really does and it takes a lot of time a lot of practice a lot of refining your art and
if i'm not good at something straight away i just want to quit because i don't like not being good
at things i feel like now i'm getting to a place where i'm accepting you know it's okay for art not
to be perfect sometimes the beauty of art is the making it i'm using way too much paint by the way
i completely understand that and i'm sorry if this is really grossly wasteful to anyone but this is
one of the most fun parts for me i like just chucking it on there maybe i should just leave it
like this and this is my abstract art piece okay now i'm gonna get my knife and we're just gonna
break my cacti house we're just gonna do this i think that's how this works all right
i'm going to use this fanned
brush um and i'm just gonna go like this on the painting to merge the colors together a bit
see i was really hesitant to make this video because the people who are actually good at
art are just going to watch this and and cringe and the people who aren't good at art are going
to look at this realize i'm not good at art and then get bored so basically what i'm dealing with
is an audience who could easily make something significantly better than this and an audience who
could make exactly this which means that from a viewing perspective this offers absolutely nothing
to anyone okay i'm gonna leave this to dry um it's probably gonna be
dark by the time that i come back to it but we'll have to see
i'm basically going to paint on a second layer kind of like how i did with the first layer
but using lighter colors and hopefully this is going to be nice i have no clue what i'm doing
i was thinking about drawing flowers on it that was something i was thinking about or lily pads
very monet i have no idea i feel like i should have like come up with a plan before painting but
you know i don't i don't tend to think much so hello everyone tis i editing albert i just want to
tell you that from this point on it goes very much downhill for me in this painting i make
every single mistake possible if it starts to get a bit more chaotic
um it's because i hated every single minute of it
the only viable solution is just to let me cry and live out my days in pain
i hate it so much unless you're just gonna scrape it off
i feel like that looks like it belongs in the hallway of a dentist's office
at this point i don't even know what's happening i couldn't even tell you i don't know how we got
here use your scissors next that's where we're going creating depth character spice
that's what this is spice building now we've got this i'm gonna flick white onto it
because i see people do that sometimes in in our videos and it looks fun so
yes this looks very artisanal is that a word or is that what you use to talk about
baked goods i'm not sure ah my eye okay that one that one went behind me but never mind
okay we've had an issue it appears i actually dropped paint on the floor and i've stood in it
and now i'm i'm doing very similar to what this is but on my floor this is my child
um she's a bit of a mess but you know i made her so i'm proud of that why do i
feel like that's what my mom said when she introduced me to people
are you ready to seek the most incredible piece of abstract art you've ever seen
he's got texture he's got layers got so many layers
he's an onion and now with my painting finished i could upload him to ebay and wait for the money
to come rolling in the first day you know came and went and there was not a single a single bid and i
assumed that this was because you know some people were so overwhelmed with the beauty of the piece
that they just in fact forgot to bid on it but then the second day
there was also no bids and then it happened every single day until the auction ended
no one bought my onion so essentially what i'm saying
is i made terrible abstract art and i made no money from it because it was terrible which
ultimately should have been self-explanatory but i put my heart and soul into that onion
now my terrible failures aside it did make me realize quite a few things firstly just
how much time and work and money goes into making art i think i spent about 30 pounds just on paint
and then another 10 just on the canvas so that's 40 pounds worth of equipment
artists put so much money into their art before you know you even see it there's paint to buy
canvases equipment all of these things cost money and there is so much invested in in every single
piece an artist creates and probably more than you realize and more than i realized anyway so
with that in mind i decided that i'd like to help some of you out in the pink comment
and in the description you will see an email address if you are an art student or an artist
who is in desperate need of new art supplies please email me email me examples of your art
and you know an art store if you have one and i will choose one art student and one artist
and i will give you both an 100 gift voucher or equivalent worth in whatever your currency is
because this is open worldwide to your favorite art supply store art shop or amazon wherever you
get your art goods from and hopefully i can help some of you keep creating the amazing art that you
make not only that but if you are an independent artist who doesn't need art supplies but is
trying to sell their work please email me as well email me a link to your shop and also email
me your instagram handle because i am looking to buy some art and i would love to buy and support
within the community that we have from the shops that i buy from i will be sharing their instagrams
on my instagram stories so that you guys can check out their work as well and hopefully you know buy
some i know right now the state of the world's in it's a very hard time to be a creative person
and i'd just like to be able to support some of you the way that you guys have supported me you
guys have been incredibly supportive of me in the last few months not only by you know just
watching my content but also by supporting the sponsors that i've had on my channel and
and i'm just very very grateful for it i'd like to pay back some of that kindness that you guys
have shown me and to top it all off i will be putting this painting back up for auction on
ebay if it gets sold all of the money will go to an art related charity whether that is an
art therapy related charity or a charity that supports young artists i'm not sure if you guys
have any recommendations down below please let me know i'd love to check them out and you know we
can decide which charity the money goes to if it does sell if no one buys it and it doesn't
sell i will still donate to some of the charities that you guys recommend in the comments down below
and this can just hang you know in my kitchen as a as a reminder that i am terrible at art
but that is okay i had amazing fun creating this video and creating this this awful abstract art
and it's made me realize more and more that it's not just about the outcome
when it comes to art it's it's about the process creating this reminded me of when you're young
and you make art because it's fun not because you're trying to make it good or perfect or
too similar to anything in the real world it was just silly and fun and i don't hate this
even though it's bad i still kind of like it so let me know in the comments down below would you
give abstract art a go do you create abstract art or is it just not your cup of tea i love hearing
what you guys think you always bring so many different opinions to the table and i just really
value your insights so please do let me know remember if you are an art student or an artist
in need of art supplies worldwide send me examples of your work tell me a bit about yourself and
tell me where you would like the gift card for um because i'm aware that you know certain arts need
certain very specific stores to buy their art goods as always i hope you enjoyed today's video
uh remember to look after yourself hydrate drink some water you know your cells are gagging for it
i can tell and i will see you lovely lot with another video next week kisses to your mother!!
