Hi guys, hope you're doing well.
Last time, I made a video sharing the importance of internships
and the 7 options to find a great internship in 2023.
But I got a genuine question that I'll answer in this video.
The question was if we don't have skills, this is our first internship
then will a company give us a chance for internship
and if yes, then how to find such companies?
This question is genuine but let me clear that
internships are done to gain skills.
So if you don't have skills, it doesn't mean a company won't hire you
so don't worry, every person starts from somewhere
so let me tell you internship options to begin with
even without having any skills.
The first method is to use LinkedIn and within that also
to use some rarely known tips.
We'll use the LinkedIn search feature
Whichever internship you're looking for, e.g. marketing, use keyword
'marketing' in search and then don't select job filter
use the company filter instead.
We'll find internships via company feature and not the job feature.
Here you can see the world's companies using marketing keyword
in their company name or description.
This list is still long, if we need only India's companies
then we'll use the location filter and select India.
And there's an important filter which will reduce your competition
which is company size.
We'll select the companies will a small employee size.
This is because if you're a student
you must be applying for Google internship or Microsoft internship
if every college student is trying for such internships
then who will try for growing startups?
If you have no skills, starting from such companies will help.
Among these companies how to find the ones offering internships?
For that you can use a filter called job listing.
Select yes and you'll find all the companies with job listings.
It is not necessary that the listed jobs are internships.
But using this you can click on the company name
and when you click on people, you'll find their employee names.
Here you either find the HR's profile or spot the purple circle
called hiring around someone's profile who is hiring.
It is often observed in startups or small organizations
that the person who is responsible for hiring of any role
is the person reached out for referrals.
He will help you with a referral or for any other position to be added
He will refer you as a suitable candidate.
This is a unique process to apply for internships with low competition
but once you find such a person how to convince them without skills
Note 3 important points every college student should know
Firstly, it's never the case that you don't have skills
I also thought so in college but we get confused between skills and qualities
you may not have skills but you'll have qualities
e.g. if anyone among you enjoys gaming
you'll have qualities like strategy/competitiveness
These are transferable qualities
If you can show it in one area, you can also show it in others
How to convey this to the recruiter?
When writing to them, share your qualities and not skills
Secondly, show enthusiasm, it is a must in every industry
During my college, I applied for an internship to promote an IIM graduate's book
I was surprised that he selected me because I had no skills and so many students had applied for it on Internshala
I got selected because I attached an extra document
in which I had shared marketing ideas to promote his book.
If you show interest & enthusiasm and share how you can solve the problems they must be facing,
and if you share a document, it goes the extra mile.
I can also prove it as an employer because I hired editors
I received some interesting emails
wherein they had analyzed my YT channel and shared how they'll solve the issues as an editor.
If you can do this, you'll be able to gain an internship even without skills.
The third point is to use the internship hashtag.
If you check out this hashtag on LinkedIn, you'll not see opportunities, you'll see
students sharing their internship experience.
What you have to do is find someone who has just finished their internship
who could refer you to fill in for his place.
So if you reach out to him
especially if he is only a year senior to you, you can request
him to refer you for the same position as he'll be the best one to do it
because he would've worked under the hiring manager
So these are some ways to find internships with no skills
I'll list some more good videos that will help you.

Thank you so much for watching this and all the best :D
