the rv show usa is brought to you by
flagstaff rockwood
building better rvs making smarter rvers
so if you own an rv you want to sell it
of course you want to get
as much as you can for it right how is
the best way to do that
before we get started make sure you hit
the subscribe button if you would and
hit the bell
it's right there next to the subscribe
button of course uh that will turn your
notifications on so you'll be among the
first to know
when we put out a new video so make sure
you hit that little bell
also shamaya's got a couple of links
that he's going to be putting on this
video
more of our conversation on used rvs
with today's guest if you'll click on
those links
you'll be able to jump to those videos
and get all caught up so all right so
when it's time to sell your rv you're
going to sell it
should you try to sell it on your own or
should you trade it to a dealer
should you put it with a dealer in
consignment there's so many questions
when it comes to selling your rv
to help us break it all down we have
diana leblanc
our nrvia certified inspector and we
have
phil and stacy farley from you me and
vrv on youtube so
phil and stacy
phyllis stacy whenever y'all get ready
to sell your rv how are you guys going
to do it how do you think you sell it on
your own you're going to trade it in
and why well i can't even imagine
selling it right now
all right we people ask us all the time
if we have plans to sell it and
i tell them we're going to run the
wheels off this one and then we're going
to put new wheels on it we're going to
keep rolling
we've never really given it a thought i
guess you know i guess the the
i don't know i would probably sell it
myself i mean i don't know why we
couldn't just
sell it i mean we could slap you me in
the rv sticker
sell it tomorrow and it would go like
hotcakes it would but
but you know it's because of who you all
are you have a hundred and something
thousand people who love you all over
this country
that that follow your youtube channel
but for the average person
who is not a full-timer at best i don't
know has
average knowledge of the market what do
you think
phil stacy what what what do they need
to consider when selling their rv
well one they they have to consider
actually having people
realize they're selling it being found
so you know i guess they could put it on
facebook marketplace and all that but
you know you're worried about being
being taken who's coming out to look at
your rig i've heard some safety issues
with people coming out and looking at
rvs
i'd go with a dealer a dealer yeah or or
the consignment i would
i didn't know those existed until after
we started rving
the the consignment i knew about dealers
obviously but i would i would look into
both of those and
and see what they you know what
information they're giving you about
your rig and what they think they can
sell it for
they can definitely sell it faster
because they're going to get a lot more
people
in looking at your rig in a smaller
amount of time
so i think you know if you really want
to sell it sooner than later
that would be the way to go i hear
people diana that that say you know
i put my whatever travel trailer or
whatever it happens to be on facebook
marketplace and sold in three days
and i'm thinking that's great i wonder
how much money you left on the table
i mean what do you think that that
happens a lot doesn't it especially in
today's red hot market
in today's red hot market yes it does
happen a lot people are
they're selling them to individuals
they're running into some wrinkles that
a lot of people don't think about when
they're going to sell their rv
and that's how do i transfer the title
how do i make sure
i have a clear title how do i make sure
it gets transferred
to that new buyer and it doesn't stay in
my name
how do i make sure i'm getting certified
funds from that person
uh if i have a lien on it how do i get
that person the buyer's money and i pay
it off
and he gets crv and who gets it when
and it's very confusing and so
a place like ppl is is really the place
to go because we're going to take care
of that
seller and the buyer i say we deliver a
clear marketable title to our buyers
and certified funds to our sellers and i
say i still don't understand how you're
able to do it for 10 percent
and you you know you only have to pay
when you find the buyer that's willing
to pay my price
al pierce when you want to sell your
motor home
how are you going to do it are you going
to run the wheels off of it like phil
and stacy are
well i think we already have it's almost
20 years old so we've
we have done that but you know alan i
have
felt since day one when we got into
doing this
you see all the certified used cars out
there in dealerships around america
i've always felt that if someone got an
inspection prior to
listing their rv we'll maybe even trade
it into a dealer
but they could get more money for it
because it can now be quote
certified right and diana touched on
that
where they go through it when they bring
an rv into the into her dealerships
because she wants to sell her to get the
most amount of money she wants the buyer
not to have a lot of frustration
if they do find out something doesn't
work so
for me i i haven't thought about it i
guess i'm kind of like phil and stacy
i would give it to a consignment shop i
might be heading to texas by the way
uh rv nana to give you ours i'm just
kidding at the moment
but um yeah only because of the hassle
um you know we live in a gated community
nobody can come see us so i'd have to go
up to the front gate tell security
i got so and so i mean this could just
drag on for weeks and
we're busy we're inspecting rvs so i
would lean across
the the dealer consignment shop for sure
yeah diana when it comes to consignments
i don't know if this is true but i think
it is that the states
texas is a is a consignment dealer
friendly state but there are some states
where consignments are not even allowed
yes yes i do know that there are some of
the states that are like that
in texas at one point people thought
they didn't have to have a license to do
consignments they could just park an rv
out in the field and have people it's a
you know stop and buy type thing and you
do have to have a license and we are
licensed
and uh you've got to have somebody
who's reputable who's going to take care
of you
the buyer and you the seller and
you know you may have i have a 2006
airstream
i have people who are always asking me
if we can buy it
but you know when i get ready to sell it
i better take it to ppl
i bet you do too let's go ahead and kind
of uh open things up here for a few
minutes and uh
find out what everybody's up to phil and
stacy what is the plan for you me and
vrv
in the uh in the next few months what
are y'all doing
well we hope to get out of sunny and
warm san antonio and start heading north
um for some activities we want to get
out and you know
try to pick up where 2020 took from us
we want to get back out we want to you
know do the
the sightseeing we want to get out into
the national parks and set the other
um but we got to make it through san
antonio this next month and then we're
foot loose and fancy free it's not that
bad i mean come
on you know yeah i mean you you've lived
here before
stacy are you are you still in love with
uh
not with phil but in love with with uh
full-time rv living do you still enjoy
it
yes absolutely i just we just asked i
mean well we get asked all the time
if we're ever gonna buy a house or if
we're when we're gonna stop and
right now i can't imagine not full time
it would just
it would be really weird for us to be
sitting
stationary in a house so no there's no
end in sight at this point and you know
we've we're coming on our three-year
mark
and we've yet to scratch the surface
there's still so much to see and do out
there
that you know our list keeps growing
longer and longer and longer every day
when i watch your videos that you me and
the rv uh
y'all are so genuine you seem like
you're you're having fun
and you do a lot of wow thing it's like
for the first time you can tell you're
excited about
what you're doing and a lot of people
after the first year or two that kind of
goes down not with you all you all just
keep on keep on cranking out good
material
well stacy's always telling me okay look
i need you to be peppy
yeah that's the word in in our rig right
before a video shoot
look i need you to bring the pen smile
smile phil come on honey
but what you see on on video is exactly
what you see
in person we're the same couple i mean
it's we like to laugh we like to laugh
at each other
especially laugh at each other yeah and
we do a lot of that well it comes across
well
you you me and vrv and what what is your
slogan
today today is sunday i love that
al pierce um you guys used to be
full-timers but now you
now you've kind of moved back to uh to a
condo sticks and bricks but you enjoy
getting out
what are you all going to be working on
besides doing more rv inspections in the
90 degree weather
yeah it's been tough uh did one today in
the 90 degree weather but um
you know yeah we we come off the road
and we were just going to kind of go
like a
kind of like a snowbird kind of
environment where we travel three or
four or five months but then
we made a decision before covet hit we
weren't going to travel
last year and kind of good thing we did
then we said okay let's hit the road
this year and we started searching some
areas wanted to go and
things still aren't open some of the
events or locations so
so our travel plan has been put off
until next year what we're going to do
is go regionally
florida the carolinas alabama just kind
of stay in the southeast
usa right now we may head a little
farther away
but i can't keep doing inspections i
don't have time to leave you know
how's business oh boy i'll tell you
we've done three inspections in five
days um
and we're retired alan i know this was
supposed to be a hobby
it was a remember not a hobby i mean
we're serious about it don't
don't take that the wrong way it was to
give us travel money
yeah so we could you know get out there
and travel and we weren't taking money
out of savings or
had to get a job to travel like a lot of
rvers and
we all were younger back in those days
but um
yeah we we we didn't sign up for this
much work but
i love the belief you make hay when the
sun shines
yeah and boys the sun's been shining
around florida for the last
two years and we're making hay baby well
that's good
alan don't let al fool you he has got
just as much pep when you meet
you've met him in person i've met him
he's just as peppy and he likes to work
because he's really good at what he does
he likes a cigar too as i remember
you know i like to spend money so you
got to make it right
how's laura doing laura doing good she's
doing well yeah she uh
it's the same way she's in the other
other part of the house listening to the
show but uh
yeah we're all both doing well and for
people that don't know we are
a team in other words i do the outside
uh and a few things on the inside laura
does
all the inside work predominantly uh and
so yeah we combine our efforts so it
does make for a shorter day i know one
inspector
he puts in 14 16 hour days because he's
doing it by himself
because his wife still has a full-time
job so he does everything from the
setting everything up to getting on site
to do the inspection do the report do
the follow-up
it's a long day and i told you one day
we're gonna go to diana in just a second
i need you to send me a logo because
we're gonna i'm not sure if we've got
you as one of our resources and contacts
on our website
i know phil and stacy with you me and
the rv people can go there and they leak
over from there but i need to get one
because a lot of people are going to
have
inspection questions stuff diana i know
you have got a big deal happening
at your houston location next tuesday
i'm going to give you like a minute or
two run with a girl run with it okay
about two years ago i started something
called tuesday tips with rv
nana i wanted to do something to give
back to the customers who have done so
much for us because without our
customers
we wouldn't be anything and so i started
this i have some vendors who are coming
in one of them is gary weaver
and he is going to talk about
connectivity and how you stay connected
on the road
you guys uh all know that that can be a
challenge for a lot of people
and then we're going to talk about how
you change your rv
if you're not a full-timer how you
change things over from the winter
camping
into the summer camping and you you know
you get rid of the heavy jacket you
always have a jacket but you get rid of
the heavy one and you put your swim
shoes and or your swimsuit
and your beach shoes in there there's
things like that that we'll talk about
we'll have refreshments
we encourage people to come out and it's
our way of saying
thank you and a lot of times what our
customers learn when they're there
is they learn so much from each other
just like you guys do on the road all
the time
it's sort of like a forum of you know if
these facebook forums social media
forums
except it's face to face i guess like
you said social distancing but uh
and that is next tuesday at your houston
location uh from
three to six from can i just show up or
do i need to call first or
we ask you if you're gonna sit through
the classes to please call
only because of our social distancing
world we've had them before we'll have
60 or 70 people there
we can't do that like we could then and
we're being respectful
but call we also the store looks amazing
there's so many new gadgets and projects
or products coming in
i'm so proud of the team they're doing
very well
awesome well i want to thank everybody
do anybody want to say anything to the
other person
you know that guy that girl
or i'm going to come see you you know
that's it that would be that would be
awesome to pop in on our way north that
would be really cool
oh come see me yes come on we're
definitely going to come see you
