today i'm going to teach you five things
you need to do to make a profit from
flipping furniture i'm letting you in on
all my insider secrets so come on along
and i'll show you how it's done welcome
in to lemons to lemonade furniture my
name is kara and flipping furniture out
of our garage in dallas texas has
allowed our family to reach financial
freedom come along with us and i'll show
you how it's done
in today's video i'm taking some dated
thomasville nightstands and i'm flipping
them for a great profit throughout this
video i have five flip tips to help you
be successful in flipping furniture so
stay tuned
[Music]
i'll start by cleaning these nightstands
with a bit of simple green to help
remove all the dirt and grime
[Music]
do
[Music]
pick up items that sell quickly right
now those are dressers night stands and
entryway table
[Music]
that's right nightstands tend to be a
lower price point item so they'll sell
quicker i'm always on the hunt for a
matching pair of nightstands at the
thrift store
[Music]
if you watch my channel regularly you
know that i like to update the base of
my furniture pieces this base was a
little too chunky for me i'll remove
some of the wood and give it more sleek
look
[Music]
learn what's hot in your market the next
trend for us is boho and that is super
hot right now in the dallas market and i
can sell that all day long but it may
not be the same in your area so be sure
to visit other furniture stores and see
what people are buying once you see what
that item is think of cost effective
ways that you can create that and sell
them for a profit and you will be off to
a really great start
[Music]
now that i've rounded off the base i'll
go in with my 3x4 surf prep sander and
make sure everything is nice and smooth
[Music]
no huge items like armoires or kitchen
tables with chairs i only do custom
orders for those things due to the space
they take up the time they take and all
the supplies that they quickly suck up
kitchen tables used to be on my list for
things to sell last year but this year
with the prices of everything else
increasing the cost to flip these and
then the sale price that i have to sell
them for means they move much much
slower for me this year
[Music]
for these nightstands i've decided to go
with sherwin williams emerald urethane
trim paint in the color tricorn black
the emerald trim paint has great
durability and a built-in top coat that
dries to a diamond hard finish once it's
fully cured making this a really great
option for nightstands that will
definitely have lots of things placed on
top of them
[Music]
use colors that are easy to blend in
your home like black white and sage
green are really hot right now those are
the top three things that i would say
don't go wild unless you plan on sitting
on the piece for a while waiting for
that right person to come along
[Music]
this is a satin finish but you can see
how shiny it is and this is with one
coat on so it will require two coats
total
[Music]
i'll do a light scuff sand in between
coats to make sure everything is smooth
[Music]
so i'm ready to work on the handles
but when i bought these i had a dresser
that matched this and i made a video out
of that i don't know maybe a month ago
or so and i'll throw that uh down below
it looks totally different than how i
did these nightstands
but
those uh the dresser it had a um pole
that was broken on it so i had to take
one of these and put it on the dresser
and hoped that i could find something
that would work for the nightstand when
it was time to flip those and i did i
found these
on amazon and i'll link them below in
the video if you guys need one of these
for any reason
and this is the original
so somehow i've got gotta match these
woods and i have an idea and i'm
fingers crossed that this is gonna work
because this was the closest thing i
could find but
the woods don't match so let's try
something
[Music]
i'm going to use my 3x4 surf prep sander
with the squishy foam pad abrasive
attached to give this a light sand and
see if i can get the finish off i'll
tape up the metal parts so i don't hit
those with my sander
[Music]
i'm using my favorite gold leaf metallic
krylon spray paint to get all the metal
parts to match
[Music]
[Music]
if you live in a rural area look for
other places to sell besides facebook
marketplace at sea is a good suggestion
the next door app your local flea market
or outdoor market
booth rental space that maybe you could
split with another creator all of those
are really great options right now to
get your pieces moving
[Music]
so
[Music]
just a quick reminder here are the
nightstands before i flipped them and
here they are after
i love how the updated base just made
these look a little more on trend and
the contrast of the light wood handles
added that little extra touch of boho
that is so hot right now in the dallas
area i purchased these nightstands with
a matching dresser for eighty dollars
total and the night stands alone sold
for 300. i'm very pleased with that
did i get any of these wrong is there
anything extra you would add for your
particular area let me know in the
comment section down below next week
i've got something really fun planned so
be sure to hit that subscribe button and
notification bell so you don't miss a
flip and i look forward to seeing you
next time on lemons to lemonade
