College ain't paid for this one let me
guess you went to college to get a
degree in business so you majored in
marketing and you want to work in sports
me too
so you take a job in ticket sales as a
foot in the door you figure this gets me
in making a decent salary in six months
I'll move into a marketing role three
months after that I'll be running the
department and by the end of the year
I'm part owner none of this will happen
especially the decent salary part when I
started in ticket sales
I made twenty thousand dollars a year I
think if it's any salary under forty
thousand just give me the hourly rate
yeah never mind
twenty thousand dollars a year sounds
better so then you figure the salary
sucks but I'll make up for it in
Commission what's out that Commission
check comes in and makes you an extra
thirty bucks
every other paycheck but hey at least
you're working for a sports team right I
mean it's sports so it's gotta be fun
no nope like nah like no like not even
it's almost universal that working for
sports teams can be the worst places to
work not all but generally they don't
really care about you being there you're
a number the job and position will
always be attractive on paper people
will always want in but not for long
aside from the actual team you may work
for the job itself a much better you
think your job is hard you ever try
selling hockey tickets in July bruh cuz
that's just a task them summertime
Commission checks come in still light
not only that it's sales you're cold
calling for ticket sales which means
your list of contacts might be dusty
used and abused trust me you'll know
because when the number comes up in your
cube you'll see the previous notes and
that [ __ ] gets worse and worse and worse
no matter how bad those leads are the
higher ups will always tell you how
great they are if I had these leads I'd
be able to retire by the end of the week
these people came to one preseason game
five years ago and when you're in this
world of ticket sales expect people to
get way too into quoting certain movies
wolf of Wall Street boiler room
Glengarry Glen Ross and on and on and on
they're gonna reference these movies in
every training and on a weekly basis to
motivate the team to sell more tickets
problem is you're selling minor-league
tickets versus high-end stocks at least
you get to work the game nights though
right and that's a mixed bag in itself
it's one thing to go around and meet the
season ticket holders it's another thing
to put on a winter hat and parade around
the concourse in a suit selling tickets
like the popcorn I did mention while
wearing a suit right okay just checking
like dressing up for game days no
problem I get it
my issue is when you have to sit in an
office looking like a stiff to impress
who I'm telling y'all scratch that
I'm warning y'all there's some rules to
working in sports that are not regular
like at all here's a quick list of the
rules that I endured no facial hair
black pants and white or blue button-up
shirts with a tie now not just any blue
will do it had to be the right shade and
hue blue or your ass was getting sent
home short hair this one didn't bother
me no vacation time during the season in
fact you're entitled to just five days
off a year that had to be taken between
the offseason and preseason but if too
many people had the same day off you had
to pick new days off yep no talking to
the players or coaches if you're not
working a game night you're not allowed
to attend the games
what the [ __ ] [ __ ] not only that but
where I worked there was no break room
so Joe where did you go for lunch that's
a great [ __ ] question so during our
one hour break we would spend 20 minutes
walking to the mall to go eat in the
food court yeah yep listen I'm sure not
all these sports teams are that bad to
work for actually I'm not sure about
that at all but hey at least you can
tell your friends and family you work in
sports right if you worked in ticket
sales comment let me know your
nightmares I mean your experiences of
working in ticket sales and then hit the
like button hit the double like it like
it's well actually if you like it twice
it cancels out so just like it once so I
can get them you know you get the thumbs
up hit the subscribe button it's
probably down right over here hit that
subscribe button turn on the post
notifications and I'll see you all next
week
