what's going on beautiful people of
YouTube framing every since the last
live episode that I did I picked up
another stack of vinyl records paid $40
for this stack I probably got maybe 20
listed there was a little over 70 Marty
made upwards of 150 200 bucks on this
lot I still got plenty more to go but a
lot of people were asking and how do you
list these things how do you sell and
most importantly how do you ship them
that's what this video is gonna talk
about we'll talk about things like
grading and I'm gonna try to simplify it
as best as I can for you because there's
so much opportunity for you guys to find
vinyl records out there yard sales and
garage sales whether you want them for
your collection like you do with gain
collecting to pay for your collection or
you just wanna make some extra cash this
will help you so sit back and relax
let's learn something
[Music]
alright guys so before we really get
into this like like I said I want to
make it a quick video but I do want to
state that I am no authority on vinyl
records I don't collect them I don't
have the room for my I'd love to but
since I am an avid video game collector
that's my hobby but that will not stop
me from buying and flipping the hell out
of these things you can usually find
them at yard sales and garage sales for
very cheap you can buy them in bulk and
a lot of times there are plenty of
opportunities to make a good bit of
money as long as you know what to look
out for so this is just a small corner
in the room that I have in my eBay room
which everybody calls it's really just
the room where I resell everything list
everything I keep my vinyls here
whenever I pick them up you'll see tape
on bucks because the vinyl record is
actually very heavy the more that you
have they have a significant time how
hate to them and I use a cheap little
Crosse Crosley tabletop record player it
this is not the best I know a lot of
vinyl heads out there watching this like
man you should upgrade that I again I
don't collect these things I have this
mainly just to test bad spots on albums
I want to make sure there's no surface
noise I wanna make sure there's no
skipping things like that
this Crosley record player I honest I
can't really recommend it if you wanted
you know actual quality I can recommend
it if you wanted to save space and you
wanted to be able to test your records
like I have now so if you can you could
probably find these things fairly cheap
at a yard sale or wherever it may be who
remembers that grand theft auto san
andreas now come on
classic alright let's go ahead and put
you off to the side here turn you off
and set you back down always try to be
careful with the needles even though
it's nothing crazy I still want to be as
delicate as I can
same with the album's themselves just
thinking like big you know CD disc even
though it's obviously not the same you
don't want to you know handle the rings
if you can't grab it by the outside
you'll put fingerprints on these things
that is inevitable but just try to be as
delicate as you can with them so what
makes a record complete you know I like
to think of it like a you know basically
like video games I know I've got a lot
of hunters & collectors I watched my
channel and this is just another you
know revenue source that they can be
looking for and this is something that
can help them either build their
collection or make some extra cash which
is always good when it comes to a record
you have obviously the sleeve you have
the album you have the cover
you know the sleeve cover for the album
itself and sometimes you have inserts
much like you would a video game you
know you'd have the manual the the box
art whatever it may be sing with albums
sometimes they have you know they
include little booklets or they might
have a little you know phantom piece of
paraphernalia that goes with it
but for the most part that's gonna be
the album the the slipcover does cover
whatever you want to call it sleeve in
the album itself
now one thing again like video games
that you're gonna hear a lot of if you
start getting into vinyl is re-release
reissue remaster that sort of thing and
I know it's completely wrong but when I
hear that I just think repro in my head
you know if I had a copy of earthbound
you know repro it's going to go for
twenty bucks if I have the original it's
gonna go from one hundred fifty two
hundred it kind of falls in the same
line with vinyl records you have a lot
of reissues a lot of they they you know
second prints third prints things like
that or shall I say pressings I know I'm
gonna be pissing off a lot of the vinyl
community out there but understand this
is just something that I've picked up
along the way I've been selling vinyl
records on and off now for two or three
years whether it was the eBay account
that sling that y'all see in the
description or my other one I sell them
fairly frequently at you know depending
on the album they can be very quick
sells or they can take a good time to
sell so trying to find out if you have
original copy or a you know a reissue a
second pressing whatever it may be
that's where it becomes a little bit
tricky there are certain things that
will help you you know like a lot you
know all the way up until like the late
70s you know things like that has a
barcode here's a couple examples this is
the wall Pink Floyd this is what is this
clean a day at the races neither one of
these have barcodes but again that's not
a surefire way of determining this is
living color vivid this is what was this
late 80s I believe ladies maybe this has
a barcode a lot of it you know all your
your anything past you know I'd say like
79 or 80 most like we're gonna have a
barcode that's not a determining factor
if it's gonna have its gonna be a
rereleased when I first started out
earlier on I couldn't tell honestly that
that well I didn't realize how simple
some things that would help you
determine you know you would look on the
bottom it would say like 1988
copywriting right beside it would say
2008 copy right you want to look at a
lot of things you want to look at the
producer of it you know the electric
Columbia but the ultimate ultimate way
of determining if you have a reissue if
it's not original and that's what you
want to check obviously is ebay it's as
simple as that you just have to do your
homework yet to cross references look at
pictures make sure you're typing in and
use eBay like a search and a News eBay
like Google you know type in living
color vivid first pressing or original
and then compare make sure you go until
you start getting an idea of what to
actually look out for one of the things
I heard early on from another vinyl head
he's like you know you got an original
first pressing fit F it's this F it's a
70s album if you open it up and seeds
pour out that's just a joke obviously
that's not the case but do understand
there are many indications that will
tell you if you have a legit actual copy
I have been fooled in the past I have
listed you know early on you know I
would put it up I didn't do my homework
100% thinking that is original only to
have awesome people messing me but
listen that's not original check this
and then that's how I actually started
to learn and then I started you know
diving in more to this but ultimately
eBay that that's that's your Google
that's your Wikipedia that will teach
you everything you know
signs to look out for and then when
you're out hunting you can pick up these
traits and use them
you're actually out there on the field
so record grading this is gonna be one
of the touchy subjects because
everybody's gonna have their own opinion
on their good records are notorious for
just any time you put in the necessary
they're gonna get dust they're gonna get
all sorts of whatnot on there they
actually make a vinyl record cleaners
you know you put it in usually from the
top like this and will actually rotate
and clean them I don't have one that's
it's nothing that I feel like I should
invest in but for things like
fingerprints and debris and whatnot I
use a nice felt cloth that I'm talking
very lightly I go around this thing and
just make it look nice for the pictures
I get rid of all the fingerprints and as
best I can but when it comes to record
writing it can be very intimidating on
eBay because when you look at it it
doesn't line up with most every other
listing you know when you can put in
things like near-mint very good plus I
can throw you off if you don't really
understand it I'll try to break it down
really simple for you
things like this if you're having meant
a record that's obviously gonna be mint
no no imperfections know that no scuff
scratches the sleeve everything looks
absolutely perfect looks like it just
came out of the record store and then it
kind of goes down but it doesn't seem
like it goes and this is where it throws
a lot of people off it'll say you know
if we're going from meant to Near Mint
which is obviously maybe a slight
imperfection maybe a ring on the sleeve
something like that eh then it goes from
video about 70 to again from very good
plus to very good and a lot of Records
you know depending on the condition
after kept up well usually fall into
that very good category they can show
light scuffs they can have slight wear
on the sleeves themselves on the inserts
things like that you wouldn't think that
considering when you have other listings
you know when you can start out things
like for parts or repair good light move
it's a little more simplified when
you're looking at other listings but
with records it can be a little
intimidating going down from very good
plus that's very good then it goes to
good plus and then good in my opinion
good and good pluses there's going to be
the worst of the worst you can actually
implement your own type of sleep grading
you can put poor or bad things like that
but when you go to good good plus
I still like to think of it that the
record will still play they will it
won't have any imperfections with it
anything below that it's just it's it's
gonna be trash I'm looking for scuffs
and scratches that not only can I feel
but I can just visually see that are
gonna impair the record and I actually
test them and if I can hear that surface
sound or popping or skipping it's it's
not gonna be good enough for me but this
one right here I'll decide from a few
bits of hair that came from the sleeve I
would give this a very good very good
plus I see the only imperfections I see
are some fingerprints which I can get
off and I actually have tested this out
I'm like I said I'm a big fan of GTA san
andreas and I wanna hear all of what
Living Color had to offer but again I'm
going to wipe it with this felt cloth
make it look good for the pictures these
thing since they're black they show up
any bit of dust or anything will show up
right on them but the record dragon
again it can throw people off I've I'll
say it a hundred times I'm no authority
on that that's how I feel the record
grading system works for me and again
I've been selling these things for a few
years and I haven't had any issues
sometimes honestly I'll use a recycled
listing and they won't even have the
record grading on there and I'll still
sell the album so if you're
uncomfortable with the grading system
you don't technically have to use it
just make sure your descriptions are
accurately described I know some people
whenever they list they make them list
video games they can have whatever it
may be it could be you know fallout 3 or
whatever for the 360 and it can it can
have some light surface scratches they
will list like new they will list very
good conditions for me that's a no-go
well I'm listening video games and it
has some surface scratches I will never
put like new or very good condition it's
it's it's I don't know maybe it's more
of a like a personal decision more of I
just don't feel that the honorable to
put very good condition if as you know
some surface scratches even if they're
light that's just not my style the same
applies with with records I know there
may be some people out there watching
this that says well you know even if it
has some surface noises and some some
some pretty major scuffs they'll put
good and maybe a very good eye I don't
do that I haven't had issues yet not on
some major would hear that that when I
sell these things my grading the way
that I do it has
cause of meeting trouble it hasn't but
then again I'm also I'm not lenient when
it comes to condition that's that's the
way I feel about it if I am gonna grade
an album on my listings but most of the
time I do I try to be as real as
possible I don't want to say that it is
very good condition when it's not that's
even though some people's definition a
very good can defer from another's for
me very good condition is like it like
it means very good condition I would
almost never give something mint
condition very rarely have you ever seen
something mirror mint for me I'd I can
just always see an imperfection and
something and that may be a downfall for
me I know a lot of people out there
probably like man you're losing money
but at the same time maybe it just
covers me I don't want someone to get
this I have had I have had anal people
in the past whenever they buy something
something that you would never even a
thought of this little corner bit right
here that I forgot to mention and I put
mint near mint condition it's not you
know something like that so I always try
to cover myself and I also try to be as
fair with my listings as possible all
right so now I want to talk to you about
how I actually list these how how I
picture them ignore this background this
bathroom is actually gonna be replaced
that's why I like using these cardboard
cells because they're easily replaced
versus the cloth if you don't have it on
a roll you just kind of it's a little
bit more money these are cheaper and
they worked fine for me and actually
here lately I've been using this black
drug that looks very nice but whenever I
list see since I try to get everything
in one shot if I can if it's a single
record album right here which this one
is I try to put the insert and it
probably won't show up that well you can
always check my eBay page and kind of
see exactly what I'm talking about but
see if I could look over can't even
really see it that well but I'll have
everything in one shot as best as I can
I want to have the album cover the album
itself and then the sleeve with all of
my listings there's usually anywhere
between eight to all twelve pictures
made that you can upload I'll have a
picture of the inner label itself I'll
try to have a picture as best as I can
of both sides of the album both sides of
the sleeve cover and obviously both
sides of the actual album cover and
again I want to if there's any
imperfections on the corners I want to
picture those as well but uh one of the
important things is the spline of these
things because much like videogame
collectors they want to see that spline
I say the condition of these things are
so small it's hard enough to see them
already said they want to make sure the
condition on these is as good as
possible when it comes to double albums
you know you can have two or three even
again I try to get everything in one
picture as best I can and then have all
the singular pictures right off that
much like any listing you would do on
ebay but I see some people if they will
literally just have the album like this
and I think that's such a turn-off
listing just for the fact that you can't
you're doing a little work for them by
having everything in the picture at once
versus just that because they're gonna
look at that and they're gonna say well
it's just the album they might not have
the sleeve in mind I have the inserts
even though it does you gotta keep in
mind some customers are lazy and they
don't want to put in that extra click
that's just the way I feel about it so
if you have just an album right here as
your as your main focus listing I just
think it's a turn-off
whenever I'm listening a game I try to
have everything out because it's quick
or people you know we live in a quick
time they want to see everything then
and there and then you can have your
close-up pictures of everything else so
it's simplified to the point where
you're going just a little extra leg
work but that's leg work that the
customer may not do and it may get you
that sale all right now we're going to
talk about what I'm sure everybody wants
to know about is how the hell do you
ship these things I always 100% ship
these things of medium mail unless the
customers willing to pay more to have it
shipped priority first class if it meets
that criteria but they will always form
a ship medium meal and they will always
ship in these packages right here I get
these I'll give you a bit of ice never
go on ebay to buy vinyl record shipping
boxes the eBay will gouge the hell out
of you a lot of my shipping supplies I
actually in a bubble wrap certain
mailers and cardboard boxes I'll get
from Amazon Amazon a great place for
shipping supplies I'll leave the link to
these which is the best ones that I have
found for the price in the description
and maybe a pin comment if I can
remember but these are absolutely
perfect you can fit probably like seven
to add I've never had to ship that many
I had a customer from this last lot
bought four I think obviously they fit
fine
put a little bit of space in there but
these things are absolutely perfect what
makes them really good that separates
them from the most is the thickness and
the perforations the thickness of this
cardboard is very sturdy when unlesss
things put together it is very nice and
if you're shipping mean email if you
don't know it's the cheapest option
vinyl records do apply and it's not the
the safest so you want to have the best
protection a lot of people think media
mills is going to destroy anything it's
not the case a vinyl record whenever you
have it packaged up nicely whenever you
have no gaps things like that and you
have a nice packaging it's actually
pretty damn sturdy so with this
particular packaging I'll go ahead and
do it like I'm gonna do a single and
again these perforations are very nice
it makes doing or makes packaging very
easy and it's not that complicated I
paid I want to say it was it could have
been on sale - maybe 17 bucks 17 20
bucks for a 50 of these and you're
probably thinking well that's that's can
be a little bit high itself I haven't
found a better deal for this quality on
ebay people try to sell 10 for 20 bucks
I mean you gotta you gotta put your cost
into each one of these into each album
that you sell so if you're selling $10
albums something like this is obviously
more economical than the other now let's
say I was this hasn't sold you actually
don't even think I listed that yet
but let's say we're doing Living Color
here I could just put this album only
and this will actually fold over and or
I'm sorry I'm going the wrong way here
once this is all folded over it'll
actually hold the album in place well if
you put a little pressure on there and
it won't shake around but whenever I do
this I actually like to put a little bit
of fluff on the bottom and the top it
just makes it a little bit more
symmetrical of a box it's a little bit
more even and it less likely a chance
that Alexa moved there's not much gap in
here but I don't like to hear any noise
whenever I shake any of my packages I
like it to be nice and firm so if you
have an eBay store subscription which
I'm sure a lot of you out there do they
actually sell tissue favors and the
tissue paper is actually a pretty damn
good deal I use this stuff all the time
people don't realize it's not for things
like glassware only I mean you can
that something ball it up and you have
that much box space per one and they're
there they're pretty cheap and
affordable but I'll take this and I'll
just pull this is kind of like you know
if I'm selling a video game and I wanted
to put a piece of bubble wrap over the
disc so it doesn't flop around just the
same idea I put a little bit on the back
and a little bit on the front and just
that little bit just gives it a little
bit more security whenever I package
this thing up all right so let's say I
have a stack of Outwell minami I grabbed
here I got one two three four five six
seven there's eight albums here total I
actually don't know if it will fit or
not let's see
I haven't had to mail that many at once
I think that would be just a little high
close to seven seven should be perfect
we're gonna do the the top perforation
obviously on this one and with that up
right there this top I love these boxes
these boxes are absolutely perfect look
at that that is nice I'm turning these
pan out I'll take the heck out of it
I'll throw the strip on top and on the
bottom slap a medium mail sticker on
that and that is good to go
that's really it guys it's not that hard
again I'm no authority on this I don't
want people to look at this something
I'm a professional record seller I'm not
I just made quite a bit of money selling
vinyl records and I haven't had any
issues yet so hopefully this video has
helped a handful of you out there if it
did make sure you like the video share
to someone who wants to further their
interest and making money but as always
everybody out there in this wonderful
world take care and enjoy the rest of
your day
