in this video i am going to show you how
to start selling on ebay in 2021 and
beyond g'day guys my name is samson i'm
a full-time ebay seller and in this
video i'm going to be bringing you a
complete
beginner-friendly step-by-step guide to
selling on ebay this guide is applicable
globally on ebay.com
ebay uk and of course ebay australia i'm
going to be covering absolutely
everything you need to know to start
selling on ebay
creating an account what to sell on ebay
listing an item
getting more sales getting products to
sell shipping sold items
ebay fees and finding products to sell
on ebay
i've included timestamps for everything
i just mentioned so feel free to skip
around and find the information you need
just quickly before i get into the guide
myself i am a full-time ebay seller i
have been for nine months and i've been
selling on ebay in some capacity for
about two and a half years
in that time i've done over a hundred
thousand dollars in ebay sales
and i consistently sell hundreds of
items on ebay every single month
on this youtube channel i make all types
of videos about selling on ebay and
making money online
so if you find this video helpful make
sure to drop a like and also subscribe
to my channel
if you want to learn more about selling
on ebay now let's get right into the
guide
okay on the ebay website in the top
right you're going to want to click on
register then you'll need to enter in
some basic information such as a name
email and a password for your new
account
once that's done you're going to want to
add a payment option so you can get paid
once you make sales on ebay
so click on account settings then
payment options and after that you're
going to need to input some information
such as your current address and then
also how you want to be paid by ebay
either paypal or a bank account once
that's set up you now have a seller
account on ebay
and you can access this page and list
your first item the most important thing
to know about your new ebay account is
that when you first open it it will have
seller limits
basically once a month ebay reviews a
seller's account and it decides how many
listings they're comfortable allowing
you to list
when you first open an account it will
have a seller limit of only 10 items
this means that you can list 10 items on
ebay
it may not seem like a lot but once
you've listed all 10 of those you can
easily contact ebay and request a seller
limit increase and as long as everything
is going okay with your account you
should have no trouble getting your
seller limits increased
every seller had to start like this
gradually increasing the amount of items
they're allowed to list on ebay as long
as you do everything right as a seller
you should have no trouble
increasing your seller limit once you've
ran out of listings
since you only have a limit of 10 items
it is important to choose those items
carefully you want to pick items that
will sell fast because then you can get
some feedback on your store
and it will also show ebay that you're
getting sales which will make
increasing your seller limits easier i
recommend starting with products from
your own home that you no longer use
preferably something small in size
because that will make shipping it out
way easier
some of the best categories to start
selling in are electronics and video
games because they sell really quickly
all year round on ebay if you have some
old video games like these
lying around then i definitely recommend
starting out with those
try and avoid listing products such as
books and dvds these can be great
sellers once you get up and running but
they generally take a bit longer to sell
and for your first 10 listings you want
to prioritize items that will sell
quickly on your ebay store
just a quick note on what you can't sell
you cannot sell any type of fake
counterfeit replica items on ebay and
there is also a list of products that
you are not able to resell on ebay
called the viewer list and i will link
that in the description
most products you can sell on ebay but
there are some you can't so it's
important to look out for that
a perfect example of a first product to
list up on ebay would be a gopro like
this
this is my old one so i'm gonna go
through the full process of listing this
item onto ebay
showing you guys the full process of
photographing this item and then listing
it
this is my ebay photography station i've
used two white sheets here to create a
nice white background that's the key
when you're taking images for ebay
make sure the background you're using is
white or at least the same color
throughout make sure the room that
you're taking your pictures in is well
lit that there's nothing in the
background of the image
and take as many pictures as you can you
can upload 12 images to each one of your
ebay listings if you so choose
and make sure if there's any little
details in the item that you're selling
or if it has a few small marks like this
gopro does make sure to take a picture
of those as well so buyers can see the
condition of the item that they're
buying as far as what camera to use
honestly most modern smartphones work
fine i actually was using a camera to
take my photos but then i went back to
using my phone because it's just way
easier
and here are the images that i chose to
use for this gopro a picture of the
front of the camera
one of the back one of the side and then
also a close-up
image of the little mark on the front
near the lens all right so we've got
pictures of the gopro and now i'm just
going to show you how i would list it up
on ebay i'm going to be using the ebay
website but you can also list products
on the ebay app it's the exact same
process the layout is just a bit
different
first you want to describe your item so
this is a gopro hero5 black and select
the category from the drop down menu
depending on what you're selling the
ebay catalog may come up and this will
basically just allow you to get a bunch
of different item specifics put in your
listing without you having to add them
manually
so this is the camera that i am selling
right next we're going to add our photos
that we just took just a quick tip guys
for photos if you want to get an even
better white background on your images
you can go through each photo and click
on the contrast button here adjust the
brightness a bit and then also pull up
the contrast select save and now i've
got a perfect white background you can
do that on all of your product images
and i do recommend it it makes your
listings look really professional and
it's gonna make buyers trust you as a
seller and we also need to describe the
condition of the item this is a perfect
time to describe any small flaws that
the item you're selling may have
so as you can see from this picture
there's just a little bit of paint
chipping around the lens
so i would describe that in the
condition so i've described this camera
as being in good condition with some
paint chipping around the lens
and since it's an electronics item it's
also important to say that it is working
fully
down below the photos you will have to
add an item description this is what i
recommend putting in there you can add
more if you'd like i like to repeat the
title in the item description so people
know exactly what they're buying then i
ask
buyers to pay for the item within three
days of purchasing i also say that
feedback is highly appreciated this is
really important when you're starting
out because you won't have much feedback
and then also at the bottom i like to
like message me with any questions so
potential buyers know that they can ask
me anything they might want to know
about the product next you are going to
have to price your item and if you're
unsure about what to price your item at
the best way to do it is to search the
exact product up on ebay and then scroll
all the way down
until you find down here on the left
click on sold items so you can see items
that have actually sold and as you can
see for this gopro one has sold for 160
australian dollars this one sold for 195
one for 174 one for 215
192 so we're starting to get an idea
that if i want to get a quick sale i can
probably sell this gopro
for between 170 and 190 dollars so
knowing that i'm going to list my gopro
hero 5 bike for 180 dollars for the
items that you're selling it may be
harder to gauge exactly what to price
them at and if you can't find any
comparable items already sold on ebay my
best advice would be to aim a bit higher
in the price
and enable best offer so people can
actually send you offers for your item
and then if the item doesn't sell you
can always come down in price
this section is quite important the
return options as an ebay seller you can
choose whether to accept returns or not
i recommend as a new seller you should
accept returns it will make buyers much
more likely to purchase from you i
choose to accept 30 day returns on my
store where the return postage will be
paid for by the buyer
you can get sales without accepting
returns but you should remember even if
you don't accept returns if the item
arrives damaged or faulty the buyer can
still return your product for the
postage section here
when you're starting out i recommend
using calculated postage so click here
to calculate the postage on ebay
you'll be taken to a page similar to
this and then you can work out how much
you should charge
when you're starting out that's the best
way to do it in my opinion when you
first start selling on ebay i don't
recommend offering international postage
finally you're gonna have to weigh the
item and then also work out the
dimensions of the box that it's gonna be
shipped in
these dimensions they don't have to be
exact but it is very important to get
the weight correct because that's going
to affect how much your potential buyers
will be charged in terms of postage
before listing the item you can actually
click preview and see how the item is
going to look once it's up on ebay that
looks pretty good to me
and now you've completed your ebay
listing
the easiest way to get your first few
sales on ebay
is to get some feedback on your ebay
account your feedback score is that
number next to your account name and
when you start selling on ebay that
number will be zero a lot of buyers are
very hesitant to purchase from sellers
that have less than say 10 feedback
and getting at least some feedback score
can make your account look a lot more
professional and make buyers feel much
more comfortable about purchasing from
you now you can get feedback from buying
and selling on ebay
so the best way to actually get those
first few feedback points is to buy some
products from other ebay sellers
make sure you buy from large sellers
because nine times out of ten those
sellers will automatically give you
positive feedback when you make the
purchase
you can buy items that you may need on
ebay or if you want to get some feedback
really quick you can buy a bunch of
cheap items and just consider it an
expense for starting up your ebay
business
when i started my first ebay account i
purchased items until i had around 25
feedback before i started selling
and these days when i open up a new ebay
store i'll make sure to get the account
to at least 100 feedback 100 definitely
isn't necessary but if you're struggling
to sell items
one of the best ways to sell more is to
get some feedback on your account you
can also add a custom ebay avatar
like the one you're seeing here in the
top right click on your username then on
this screen select edit profile and then
here you can upload whatever picture you
may like
change your avatar to a simple logo to
represent your business and make your
profile look legitimate it's also
important to be using the best offer
feature
so buyers can send you offers this is
one of the best ways to generate sales
on ebay i get a lot of sales via best
offer it'll definitely increase your
sales if you turn that on on your ebay
listings
ultimately guys getting products to sell
on ebay is about listing items
consistently
at a good price as long as your listings
are accurate and your items are priced
well be patient and you will start
generating sales
so once you've got your first sale on
ebay you're going to have to ship the
item off as quick as possible
the first thing you need to do is get a
shipping label for the item no matter
what part of the world you're in
this process is actually fairly similar
i don't recommend going into the post
office to purchase your shipping labels
this is an item that i just sold on ebay
and for any product that you do sell you
can actually print a shipping label and
pay for postage all on ebay right here
you'll get a list of all the different
shipping options for the item that you
just sold
select the least expensive option that
suits your item and then click
on create label you're then going to
want to print the shipping label off you
can just use a regular printer i
actually use a dymo for excel label
printer to save on ink but when you're
starting out just print your postage
label off on a regular sheet of a4 paper
package up the item that you've just
sold and then sticky tape the label
to the package i have links in the
description of this video for the
packaging supplies that i use to run my
ebay business
however this is one area that varies
from region to region
in the us you can get a lot of free
postage supplies but over here in
australia we don't really have that
option however when you're starting out
on ebay i would recommend just
purchasing
some postage supplies or using whatever
you have around the house to package up
the items securely
now ebay does charge a variety of
different fees for selling on the
platform without an ebay store you get
40 free listings every month and that
basically means that you get 40 listings
that cost you nothing to put up onto
ebay however if you sell one of those
items even if it's within your 43
listings you still will pay a final
value fee
on the total cost of the sale i have a
full video that you can find
here on the different fees that ebay
charges sellers under the new managed
payment system
which is what you'll be selling under
when you create a new ebay account but
as a general guide for most categories
the final value fee you'll pay for
selling your product on ebay
is around 12.35 purchasing different
ebay store subscriptions can reduce that
fee to as low as 10.5 percent but when
you're starting on ebay i don't
recommend purchasing an ebay store
straight away get the hang of selling
and then if you start doing more than a
few hundred dollars in monthly sales
then
i would recommend purchasing a basic
ebay store
there were dozens of different ways to
find products to sell on ebay
i have a full video breaking down the 10
different ways that i find products for
my ebay store you can find it here
but as an overview here are five ways
that you can find profitable products to
sell on ebay first is flifting that is
the most common way that a lot of ebay
resellers get into selling buying stuff
from flip shops for a low price and then
reselling it for a much higher price
onto ebay at thrift shops you can find a
lot of clothing and electronics items
that you can flip for a good profit
most major cities will have at least one
or two thrift shops so you should be
able to find one make sure you have a
phone and the ebay app installed if you
do want to go out thrifting because
you're probably going to need to look up
certain items the electronics and
clothing items from popular brands are
good items to look up when you're out
lifting the next way to find stuff is
garage sales if there are garage sales
in your area they're definitely worth
going to to look for products to sell on
ebay
you can find a whole variety of
different stuff at garage sales that
will have a good resale value and the
prices are generally pretty low
again make sure to bring your phone so
you can check the value of the items
that you may potentially be buying
one of my favorite ways to find products
to resell is facebook marketplace among
other local sales sites facebook
marketplace is definitely my favorite
it consistently provides me a whole
bunch of different stuff to purchase for
resale on ebay
in most parts of the world there are
probably some really good deals on
facebook marketplace the best time to
search for deals on facebook
marketplace is on the weekends early in
the morning because since people are off
work and they have some spare time
that's when a lot of new listings do
come up but pretty much any time in the
week
facebook marketplace can provide some
good products to sell on ebay retail
arbitrage is another way to find
products to sell
purchasing underpriced or clearance
items from retail stores and then
selling them on ebay for this method
it's most important to have the ebay app
installed because you're going to want
to scan these items
you can do retail arbitrage in pretty
much any store but some of the stores
most famous for
retail arbitrage deals are tj maxx loss
kmart walmart and over here in australia
paul's warehouse
the final way i recommend finding
products to sell on ebay is sourcing
from aliexpress and alibaba i have a
bunch of videos on this method on my
channel this is a bit more of an
advanced method you do have to be a bit
careful dealing with suppliers but
alibaba can be a great way to get
consistent inventory for your ebay
business
all right so you now know exactly how to
start selling on ebay in 2021
and beyond i know i covered a lot
everything from creating an account to
listing products
shipping sold items and then finding new
products to sell on ebay so if you have
any questions about anything that i've
put in this video make sure to drop them
down in the comments i respond to every
single one
selling on ebay is one of the best ways
to make money online it's how i make my
full-time income so i definitely
recommend it so hopefully selling on
ebay can be something that's really
profitable for you also
