hey guys this is shane and welcome to my
career of the lost channel and today
i'm talking about selling books online
used books or new books selling books
online
and avoid falling into a trap
something that's just happened to me
that i'm i'm working my way out of so
um before we get into that i hope you
subscribe hope you find this useful
leave me some comments and i'd love to
hear your perspective and
and what you do to to avoid this
particular trap
so with that let's jump right in so
here's the trap
you you sell books online or it could be
anything
but books are our wheelhouse here at
curator lost i see cool i buy cool but
95 percent of what i do is books but
you you see stuff you buy it
it's awesome it has great value
you bring it home and then you don't
list it it sits in your stack of two
lists or you get behind we're all busy
and before you know it you've got dozens
maybe even a hundred items to to list
to sell and and you're behind and you
feel like
man i am how it's a trap i've got
capital invested i've got time invested
what do i do
so here's the deal first off
this is common sense but you know
sometimes it blows
my mind when i do it myself is if you
don't
list the item it will not sell
i've had i've had some books that i've
had and i'll i'll
they'll get covered up by something i'll
list them and
they'll sell within 10 minutes i'm like
man this set on my shelf to list for
two months what did i do i should have
already moved this on
so if you don't list it it will not sell
okay uh that's what we have to keep in
our mind so
you know what why do we sell why does
anyone sell first off
you probably sell for the money it's
it can be a good gig whether that's your
hobby like it is for me
if it's a side gig if it's your main job
and how you're making your income
you can sell books
used or new you can do this
online through whatever your sales
channel is whether it's ebay or amazon
or makari or whatever etsy
you can sell books and make good money
on
your return that's probably the number
one reason we all do this right
for me it's a hobby but it's a hobby
that makes money
uh the second is and for me personally
uh and really probably one of the most
fun parts of selling books
i get it it's it's a treasure hunt thing
for me i
you know you find something of value uh
somebody else was throwing it away
effectively
right either at some sale or
thrift store and you find this thing for
50 cents or a dollar and it's worth
10 or 20 or 50 or 100 bucks
i get i get an endorphin rush on that
that is
a treasure hunt um
it's a treasure hunt experience and then
when the item sells you get another
little hit right so
these are all reasons we do what we do
you know for for the money and maybe the
thrill of the hunt right
um the collectibility and throw the hunt
the fun of it
but let's let's face it there there's if
you're getting into
book selling there is work you
one you have to go out and source your
material okay
which can be the fun part depending on
where you're at and how you feel about
it
but then you have to do the listings
again
if you don't list it it will not sell
so there is work involved with that
then when you sell it when you sell your
item
you have to box it ship it drop it off
at your post office or schedule for pick
up however you want to do it
but there's work there too so often
times people find
that the listing and the shipping to be
the most
arduous part that's the grind part so
for me
i had a big stack of stuff i had a rainy
day
uh yesterday i i sit down and
you know spent a couple hours i took
photos processed them through
um spent about two hours uh did some
comps
and listed like 46 books so made me feel
better about what i put out there it was
a good good use of my time on a rainy
day
and i i enjoy doing it so hey get a
process
folks get you a process whatever works
if it's when you bring something in
you list it right then if you have
certain days a week that you list
obviously having your tools but get a
process and stick to it
and don't fall into the trap of not
listing because if
you don't list it it won't sell so
hey a little bit of this is just me i
guess
venting over the fact that i fell prey
to what i'm saying here
but hopefully especially for you new
book sellers
hey just a word of advice and and and
get yourself a process
make sure that you you get those things
out
get them out there online so that you
can make the sale
and then go buy more stuff so that's it
uh
hope you're having a good day and we
will talk to you soon
bye
