good morning this is Jean here Gene tree
love from true love quotes for you I
keep coming to you from different parts
of our house
I'm trying to change things up a bit for
you guys
um I have to tell you uh I don't know
what diet is um I don't know what day it
is I've lost all cats
um
trying to recover
and I'm not doing a lot but yesterday
uh Jen my friend Jen came our Jen came
over I have to tell you that film is
still in my camera we videoed we were a
little bit of a mess so I'm putting this
film this video up first but yesterday
um I'm feeling a little bit better today
but yesterday I was not having a good
day and I had made arrangements with Jen
to come for lunch and I we addressed it
in the video that's to come whenever I
put it up and the day before Maxwell and
I had gone out uh to to do a shop and um
to get some lunch stuff I had some stuff
in the house but I wanted to do it
nicely and we did have a laugh because
we came away
from from the place and we I bought
everything else but lunch food I was my
head was in a wrong place and so when
Jen came I was really really tired
um I wasn't having a very good day I had
a bit of a bit of a relapse and um just
exhausted after this covid and after
this illness
um really exhausted quite a few of you
are commiserating you understand it and
um she's such a good friend you'll see
at the video coming soon that I said I
was going to make you lunch I invited
you for lunch and she had said oh I'm
I'm bringing you um baked goods because
she is a Baker and I love her I love her
things and she could be bothered she
went to a bakery we talk about it it's
so funny so we had cookies I didn't make
her lunch I was too tired that's what
good friends are for right we did have a
laugh and um she stayed and we just had
some tea and it was fine
um but that video was to come but I
wanted to just address my uh one of my
last videos I don't know which one about
my the quilts that I have made and I had
sold and I did sort of uh like a trunk
show crunch virtual cult show of the
quilts that I have I have made over the
years as you know I'm Not sewing right
now and um as somebody else I feel quite
useless in the quilting Community but
I'm not apologizing for it you know we
all need a we all need a a break now and
again and that my illnesses have forced
me but it's a good thing it's fine but
as I was saying my husband Ian had said
to revisit the quotes that I had sold so
I put up a few and asked if you would
want to see some more so I thought okay
I'll I'll go back to my Etsy shop where
like as I said it's on vacation and I'll
show you a few more of the quotes that
I've sold and I I got the pictures and
I've loaded them on my computer and I'm
telling you I had sold about 200 or a
bit more quilts and other little
uh crafty things like I I had done a
tutorial on oven gloves and um I had
made aprons and uh bibs that I was
selling in um like um craft shows uh
things like that I did my I did a travel
pillow which I actually on my Etsy shop
I had made this travel pillow
um and I had sold oh I must have sold 30
or 40 of them through my Etsy Shop
um I'll just put a few pictures up of my
travel pillows
um but you understand I had made tons
and tons of them and I had gotten a few
um requests for uh specific Fabrics on
my travel pillows I like a dinosaur and
Barbie and things like that so I sold a
bunch of them I'll just put a few
pictures up of them but I wanted to
explain when I was looking at my quilts
that I had sold uh from about 2011.
onward two of the several years ago I
was looking I thought
I actually made very simple quilts
um a lot of squares
you know man so it squares together if
you look at my quotes I'm thinking that
was so easy I just sewed a bunch of
squares together small squares medium
squares big squares uh makes it very
very
impressive and effective quilt that our
grandparents and our grandmothers and
our four mothers used to do they used to
cut out Fabric and sew squares together
now I understand that in the quilting
Community millions of patterns of
intricate intricate patterned quilts but
I think I think as I was making my
quilts I was uh I was the mother of I
think I believe five or six kids had
still lived at home out of our ten
children so I was a very busy mom back
then raising a large family and I would
go in my sewing room and I I think my
whole train of thought about quilt
making was I want to make it easy I'm a
beginner
um even though now I would refer to
myself as an experienced quilter back
then I was a beginner I've only been
been quilting for about 18 19 years now
although I had been garment making so I
was looking at my quilts and I thought I
used a tremendous amount of panels I've
always said let the fabric do the work
and I was looking at my quotes and I
thought boy oh boy back then and I still
have quite a few panels get a panel get
a panel and put some blocks around it um
now the the easiest way is a panel with
a border and I'm going to put up some of
my panel quotes I think I've showed you
before but I'll actually
um somebody said oh could you keep the
image up a little bit longer so you can
actually see and maybe I can talk uh my
process of making that those particular
quilts so I have dozens and dozens and
dozens and you might find me doing
virtual quilt shows because I don't want
the video to go on boring too too long
but I'll put the images up and I'll just
sort of um type in it's easier for me
that way
um to type in what exactly my thought
process was or actually who purchased
the product
um the quilt or whatever it was as I
said way back then when I was selling I
had accepted some custom orders that did
not last very long I had an extremely in
the very beginning I was like oh I need
to sell I had an extremely
upsetting
um right out of the gate incident of a
customer
who I'll just say
try to micromanage the custom order and
dozens and dozens of
correspondence back and forth no I don't
like that color yellow I'd and I want
that block a little bit bigger and I'm
thinking I I said to my husband it it
took the total Joy this custom order
um out of my quilt making
I know I can make somebody a custom
quilt if I if I know what they want and
da da da da da but this individual was
extremely difficult extremely difficult
and actually
uh referred my business to the Better
Business Bureau
and that case was opened and closed in a
heartbeat but that really put me off of
custom orders having said that I did
have quite a few repeat customers who
were lovely wonderful people to work
with and they and as you saw just a few
of them they wanted something and then
let my creative uh energy and my
creativeness uh translate to what they
wanted and they were thrilled to death
with with what I I came up with so it
was a real learning experience a really
learning curve and I was going to say
maybe a few of you I I did have my Etsy
shop this is years ago
um I was selling my quilts from about
from a small one because a lot of people
may be interested or may not want to ask
but I'll just volunteer I was selling my
um uh say a lap size quilt to um a small
lap size quilt to a larger lap size
quote maybe like a 50 by 60 inch quilt
something like that I would be selling
that for about between 280 and 350
dollars and I was getting it
um I had made and then on the other end
of the spectrum
I had made about
five or six king size fairly complicated
quilts and I was selling them and I got
it uh the One Was Eighteen hundred
dollars
because when I made the one quilt I had
said to uh my husband
um I really don't want to sell this
quilt was I'll put it up it was a Dr
Seuss quilt it wasn't hard but it was
like really pretty it was in the
beginning when I was sewing and um I
said I don't want to sell this he said
well what would you sell it for and I
said ah like 2 000 bucks you know like I
just pulled this number out of the air
and I actually sold it for eighteen
hundred dollars it was snapped up now
maybe the economy was different back
then because I'm thinking who would
spend 1800 bucks for a quilt
but obviously there are people out there
who have money and who appreciated
um the Artistry that went into my quote
I was I was really thrilled with that
but when I started my YouTube channel I
stopped I stopped my shop it was just
too much for me and then we moved and
blah blah blah you know the rest is
history so here I am but I'm just going
to be showing you
um some some more and I probably would
do another video if you if you enjoy it
I mean I'm just gonna maybe explain my
process a little bit more because a lot
of you are like oh you're an inspiration
and I'm thinking oh that's so nice but
the quotes if you actually break them
down so many of them were just so simple
I do have a fairly um Good Eye For Color
putting up colors together putting
Fabrics together but the actual
construction of a lot of my quotes I'm
like that was so easy I I didn't have
the time or the energy or the
inclination at the mo at that time
because I was raising a large family to
do heavy detailed patterns although I
had followed patterns as you will see in
the next few things but um I'll just put
the I'll put the quilts up and um I
really appreciate you appreciating me at
this point in my life and seeing what I
have made and what I have sold and um
what people uh who appreciated My Craft
um contributed to at that period of time
it was it was fun I enjoyed doing that
um not so much right now
um I'm trying to get better today's a
little bit better yesterday with Jen
I'll be putting that video up I was not
having a good day we did have a laugh
about it but every day I'm I'm feeling a
little bit better thank you so much I
really do have to rest and not overdo
things
um we have uh sadly we have our
congregation which is a 100 or so
brothers and sisters or a little bit
more
um we've had to go back to just pure
Zoom meetings we have two meetings a
week in our Bible for our Bible courses
and we're back to zoom because there's
so much illness there's covid uh flu and
RSV going around so in order to protect
each other and the public also
um we're scaling back yet again because
of the illness going around so please
take care of yourselves if you are ill
if you've had this our hearts go out to
you and our prayers for all of you in
YouTube land and again thank you so much
for all of your support I really
appreciate it and I hope you enjoy my
little um trunk show virtual quilt show
thank you so much folks as always love
from the true loves bye bye
