hi everyone this is Shannon from
adulting with Shannon thank you so much
for joining us today I wanted to talk
about a topic that so my friends have
been asking me to post on and that is
how to sell your items quickly um
I use an app called offer up it's the
same as Craigslist and depending on
where you live there's different local
apps Facebook marketplace I know is one
I've never really used that one a whole
lot but there are several different
options I have sold hundreds and
hundreds of items on offer up and
Craigslist and I have made thousands of
dollars on them just selling things that
either I didn't really need or just
things because we're moving or whatever
so I have a ton of different tips and
tricks on how to get your items sold
fast and for the dollar amount that you
want them to be a little bit about
myself I'm a mom of two little girls
um this is my husband right here I
married to Brad of twelve years and I
have and I have a six year old and a one
almost one and a half year old little
baby so that's a little bit about me
let's get into the tips and tricks first
off it's really really important before
you list anything you want to make sure
that you are going to be home for the
next at least three days it doesn't make
any sense to post something and then
you're gonna be out of town you're gonna
need to be available and at home so it's
kind of obvious but people do it all the
time because I'm enquiring I buy things
as well and they're like oh I'm at a
town why did you post it so don't post
anything unless you know you're gonna be
in town for the next few days next thing
you want to make sure that you only have
when you post something you only want
to be up there for a day two days at the
most
how I know if I have my item priced
correctly and listed right is if I get
tons of inquiries right away
when you post that the first hour is
gonna be your best indicator of how well
you posted that and how well you price
that if you're not getting a ton of
enquiries there's something wrong
you're probably overpriced or maybe your
description and pictures aren't great so
let's talk about that first pictures
huge that is all they're going off of
that verse that are scrolling through
your pictures have to be on point they
need to be clear and you need to have as
many photos as is allowed take a picture
of every angle and if size is an issue I
always I always will take a picture of
like I'll put a quarter next to it and
then I'll put a quarter next to the item
like so let's say it's a little rocking
horse or something like that I'll put a
quarter next to it and then that way
people can see they'll have an accurate
description of this size okay
from the picture so make sure your
pictures are clear good quality make
sure lighting all of that is so so
important they're just going off of your
picture so you got to make sure that's
on point number two spend some time on
your description this is really
important it seems obvious put
measurements if you don't people are
gonna ask you and it's gonna be super
annoying so um if you're posting a
dresser put the measurements on there
what's the height what's the width
what's the depth put that on there put
an accurate description of the condition
what it's like maybe a little story
about it spend some time on this do it
right the first time and then that way
it's gonna get sold quick
another thing be active be present as
soon as you post that people are going
to start inquiring be on top of those
people are browsing there on there
actively so if they're looking for a
dining room table they're gonna put you
know in a crayon yours
and five others yours isn't probably
that special so you be totally on top of
that and beat out all those other people
so somebody says hey is this still
available don't just reply yes and leave
it there always be like yes it is what
time what time can you meet nail them
down don't just write yes continue on
the conversation hey what's a good time
for you to look at it always always pin
them down if they say hey I don't have
any time today can you hold it no
first-come first-serve that's so so
important the longer people wait oh I
can get it till tomorrow or next week
the more they like talk themselves out
of it and they're gonna look at other
items and they're gonna go with somebody
something else pin those people down
make them get that item to day if you
can I always say hey I've gotten several
inquiries right now it's first-come
first-serve I'd love to hold it for you
but I can't what time can you pick it up
to ensure that you're gonna get it
always always always pin them down they
say okay 5 o'clock I can get it at five
thirty minutes to an hour before they're
gonna come I confirm with them hey are
you still coming at 5 o'clock make sure
make sure they're still coming pin them
down
people need to be like kept up on I'll
need to know that that you're on them
that your time is valuable you don't
want to waste your time or their time
also be honest about the condition if
it's you know the wear and tear if
there's scratches all over it be honest
front about that the worst thing is to
have somebody come and look at it and be
like oh that's not what I was expecting
and leave that is such a waste of time
spare yourself just be open and honest
but then at the same time sell that item
and sell it by like hey yeah there's a
few you know wearing tears but that's
why I'm giving it away at this price
another thing is is when they say yeah
I'm gonna come at 5 o'clock what's your
address I always I feel like this is my
leverage and it works for me almost
every time I always say oh yeah I'll
give you my address when you're on your
way let me know when you're on your way
and that thirty minutes before that hour
before when I'm like hey are you still
coming at 5:00 yeah absolutely I'll be
on my way at this time okay great
here's my address um for one I don't
want all these people having my address
people are super super flaky they'll
tell you yeah I'm coming and then they
won't show up so for one it's just a
safety thing I don't want all these
people have my address for no reason and
two I feel like that's like the other
leverage to where you know they still
need to reach out and it always works
for me that way
when I give my address too early for
some reason I always have people that
will bill out for whatever reason
another thing be super friendly and
engaging like I said before when they
ask you many questions don't give
one-word answers hey thanks so much for
reaching out I'm so glad that you're
interested in my couch set oh I have
such a love for my couch you know this
and this happened I have to get rid of
it um you know but you know this is you
know what happened I just you know I'm
glad it's gonna go to a great home when
can you come pick it up always always
always nail them down when are you
coming to pick it up assume that sell
yeah this involves some sales
some sales skills nothing complicated
but definitely always nail the person
down awesome great when can you come
pick that up
always always always cash only obviously
offer up though has this great new
feature where they have their own credit
card system where the buyer can actually
pay offer up they pay them and then
offer up charges them like a small fee
and then offer up pays you so it's
totally safe it's totally secure I've
used it a few times and it's really
great for those higher ticket items that
you have like a couch or whatever where
you know if they don't have the cash
they can pay it through offer up and
then offer up pays you so that's another
huge option but I would never do PayPal
cashier's check no make them either have
cash or hey you can pay offer up through
the system and then a front page you
right away the price it's really really
really important that you're not putting
some love tag on this this love price an
emotional price tag on this item if you
want it sold right away
well okay at first what I do is say I'm
gonna sell a lamp I'm gonna go on offer
up and look at all the lamps that are
similar to mine and see what price range
everybody's in so let's say for my lamp
everybody's going for about $20 if I
want to sell that fast I'm gonna list it
for 15 and that's because I know I'm
gonna take let's say 10 dollars for it
that's my rock-bottom price always list
it for a little bit higher than what
you're willing to take do not list it
for your rock-bottom price everybody's
gonna want to negotiate and they're
gonna want to feel that they got a good
deal it's really important for the
buyers psyche to feel like they got a
good deal so always list it for a little
bit higher than you're willing to take
that way you can negotiate with them
typically people will ask you 50 to 40
percent lower and then that way you can
come up a little bit so you listed it
for 20 they're gonna say hey I'd like
your link for 10 bucks I don't know if I
can do you know 10 well first I would
start off like hey thank you so much for
for making an offer I appreciate that
you're interested in my lamp set I'd be
willing to let it go for 17 and they'll
come back with all right well what about
15 gosh I guess I can let it go for 15
dollars you know something like that and
you know that was your rock-bottom price
anyway but you definitely got to play
that negotiating game it's very very
very important for the it's very very
important for the cell only posted a
little bit higher than you're willing to
take that way you can always negotiate
it with them and it will totally help
you out if you're if you're wanting to
sell it fast market for a little bit
lower but regardless it's really really
important that your listing is not up
for more than two days people are
looking and it shows how long your
listings up for so if it shows a week
two weeks a month people are like oh
these people are desperate and they
either think your item is garbage
there's something wrong with it your
price too high and you're gonna get
fewer fewer you're gonna get fewer
increase the longer it goes and you're
just gonna get these lowball terrible
offers so if my item is on there for
more than two days I know that for one I
priced it too high or for two my
pictures aren't very good my
descriptions not very good regardless of
what the reason is I take that posting
down very important take that posting
down and reevaluate figure out did I
just post it too high you know what was
the problem fix that problem repost it
and that way post a whole new one and
that way it will look like you know this
was just posted an hour ago
it says it by the hour you know this
this listening was up just an hour ago
five hours ago
it's very very important to see that
this is a new fresh offer it goes on the
top the longer you have it people aren't
even going to find you're posting more
than likely because it goes further and
further down the line another big tip if
you're gonna be out and about a whole
lot and you're not really gonna be home
as much and this item is not like a
couch or something in ginormous take it
with you put it in your vehicle that way
you're out and about and somebody
inquires you'd be like hey I can meet
you right here or where's your home and
if you're really close to it I've
brought my item to people's homes before
or I've met them really close to where
I'm at that's worked out for me a whole
lot but if I had my item at home then it
would have been that evening and I
probably wouldn't have sold it as
quickly so if you're gonna be out and
about take that item with you my biggest
takeaways for getting your items sold
quickly is don't hire and post up for a
really long time mail people down get
them to commit to a time and a place and
preferably that same day within the next
few hours get them to commit to that
don't put a love price on it make sure
that you're priced appropriately and
price to sell quickly be home be
president don't be done
keep your item with you be friendly be
engaging respond quickly be present on
that app and most importantly have
amazing pictures in a great description
I hope this helps if you guys have any
other tips that I didn't mention please
leave them in the comments below let me

has been your best sell that you've sold
