okay i get it i hear you
you want to know how to actually sell
digital products what platform to sell
them on how you actually deliver them i
get it i get it okay i'm only one person
but here i am to give you just that
hey howdy hey y'all and welcome back to
my channel if you're new here what is up
my name is jessica stansberry and i am
being held captive by my viewers here on
youtube who want to know all the things
about digital products i'm just joking
i'm not being held captive i'm willingly
here doing this but when i say that
y'all are showing up in the comments and
you're like how do you sell it where do
you sell it could you do a breakdown of
how to sell it all the things i'm not
exaggerating like every other comment is
like how do i sell it how do i deliver
it and i'd like to formally apologize i
did not intentionally keep this
information from you i just wasn't sure
it was something you cared about so now
that i know that it is in this series of
videos about digital products how to
create them digital product ideas
creating digital products alongside with
me i bring you a video
on how to actually sell digital products
now our sponsor today is any task and it
is probably the best sponsor i possibly
could have had on this video because it
ties in directly with what i'm about to
tell you but i will tell you more about
them in just a bit okay so when it comes
to selling digital products you actually
have a crap ton a craft ton of options i
don't say that to be confusing i
really want you to know how many options
that you have
and which ones might be best for you
because the way i sell digital products
may not be the way you need to sell them
and vice versa so i'm going to break
down several of the different options
i'm going to show you how you actually
deliver digital products in some of
these options and kind of give you an
idea of which one might be best for you
and the type of digital product you want
to create okay in the first category of
e-commerce platforms where you can sell
your digital product we're going to go
with platforms that already have a
market built in
this is where you might want to sell if
there's already an audience looking for
the thing you're going to create so for
example i use elementor with my
wordpress site to build all of my sales
pages so if i am like going out into the
world to do a search on the internet for
elementor templates i might go to one of
these platforms first because i know
there might be people there selling this
type of thing if i'm selling digital
planners i might go to one of these
platforms first if i'm selling something
where there are actively people
searching for that
out in the world i might want to use one
of these platforms i'm getting ready to
mention which have a market built into
them and actually before i go any
further you could literally put your
digital product on all of these there's
nothing that says you can only sell your
digital product in one way these first
two that have a market built in are etsy
and creative market they have two very
different audiences creative market is
literally built for people doing
creative work and who need creative
tools to do their creative work so again
if i'm creating templates for elementor
or i have like a workbook template for
canva or even like a presentation
template for canva creative market might
be my better bet to sell that because my
people are already there and etsy is
more of a consumer market it's more of a
b2c type market where creative market is
more of a b2b so on etsy you're getting
everybody who is a consumer of anything
on the platform doing searches so this
is going to be more well fit if you're
selling something like a pre-made
digital planner or like a pack of
digital stickers
or digital art etsy might be more of an
option for you now both of these
platforms make it really freaking easy
for you to go in set up a store and
create a digital product and because i
have actually sold digital products on
etsy before i will take you into my shop
and show you how to set that up so with
etsy you can sell physical goods that
you ship but you can also sell digital
goods on creative market it is digital
only so you definitely have a different
mix in these two places but it is free
to set up a store in either one now you
do have to pay to list items on these
platforms and you do have to give them a
certain percentage of each sale it's
pretty minuscule and for the search
traffic that you're gonna get it might
be absolutely worth it for you
i never pushed my etsy store at all and
for the time that my digital planners
were on the site etsy alone made me
about four thousand dollars and these
were people who did not know about me
these were people who weren't in my
audience these were people who were
coming to etsy and searching for digital
planners so that four thousand dollars
if i would have cared that much about
etsy if i would have put effort into it
if i would have continued to make
products for that market it would have
continued to grow so you can see the
potential there okay so this is actually
perfect because we pulled all of the
digital planners out of my etsy store
they haven't been up in a very long time
and there's literally nothing in my
store so once i have created an etsy
shop i just come right here and click
add a listing and then i will fill out
all of the information so i'll need to
add a photo of my image and for a
digital product you just grab a
screenshot or you can make up mockups
like you know what it would look like on
an ipad or what it would look like on a
computer or whatever and you add those
as photos you can also add a video of
your product and then here is where
everything gets really interesting you
title it and etsy really wants you to
focus on keywords and there are a ton of
tutorials out there in the world on how
to do that but then you'll scroll down
and you will see
two things one renewal option do you
want this to renew automatically and i
always left that as a yes i don't mind
for them to charge me 20 cents to renew
it if it's selling every day right but
the second option and the most important
is i would want to toggle this as a
digital product so once i filled out all
the information i gave it a title a
description i told etsy that it was
going to be digital i would then come
down set the price and how many are
available and then at the very bottom i
would go ahead and upload my files now
the way that i did this is my digital
planners were actually interactive pdfs
so if you buy a digital planner it's an
interactive pdf okay so i would go grab
that it would be a file right and i
would actually want to deliver it in
both a pdf file and in a good notes file
because both of those were options for
my users i would create it i would
download it and i would
you know save it as the pdf it needed to
be and then i would pull it into
goodnotes to make it a good notes file
okay and then i would have a folder in
dropbox for the deliverable files i
wanted people to have when they checked
out here on etsy so i would create a
folder here in dropbox and i would drag
all the applicable files into that
folder so the pdf the goodnotes file
once i created that and then i would
also add a pdf download for instructions
in this pdf download i would have like
the actual instructions on how to use
the thing i was delivering them and then
there would also be links to videos to
help them out along the way so if they
needed to know how to actually install
it on their goodnotes app i would show
them that in a video or whatever so i
would put all of that in a folder and
then i would zip that folder up okay
just zip it do a little zippy zippy on a
mac if you want to zip it you just right
click if you have right click enabled or
you know secondary click and you do
compress and that folder so that's gonna
zip it up into a zip folder okay so what
i would then do in my etsy shop i would
upload that zip folder
but i would also upload another
like jpeg or pdf of instructions because
if they don't even know how to open a
zip folder then they're going to
struggle with getting this product so
here in the digital files i can you can
add up to five different files i would
add the zip folder with everything in it
and then another file that was either a
jpeg or a pdf that really walk them
through how to open that zip file and
how to get to everything that they had
purchased okay so that's what would go
here once i had this all set up i would
literally go down here to the bottom
right hand corner and hit publish and
that listing would be live now people
can purchase it so i could send people
there or people on the marketplace could
find it creative market works very very
similarly okay so next way to sell next
scenario you might want to use is if you
want to use your own website to sell
your digital products
so for instance for me i have more
traffic coming to my website than i
could possibly ever send to etsy because
i have all of this content all my
youtube videos my instagram like
everything floating out in the world
that is sending people to my website on
a daily basis so even when i was selling
digital planners i had them listed on
etsy yes but i also was selling them on
my own store and still to this day any
digital product that i have is usually
specifically built for my audience so
i'm gonna sell it on my store rather
than on something like etsy so let me
explain a little bit more so if i'm
creating like click up templates like if
i want to create a click up template or
a notion template or whatever and i want
to sell it to
my people
right the way that people are finding
that is they are seeing my youtube
videos or my content in some way where
i'm talking about click up or whatever
so it wouldn't make a lot of sense for
me to sell that on another market
because then they're going to take a
percentage of my sales and people aren't
going to etsy and searching for click up
templates so editing jessica with otis
and oliver here i'm editing from my bed
tonight but i realized that maybe
what i said didn't totally make sense
here so i wanted to kind of clarify if i
am the one driving all of the traffic to
the sales of my digital products like if
i'm the one who is you know creating the
youtube videos and the youtube videos
are driving the sales to my digital
products
i wouldn't want to send all that traffic
to something like etsy or creative
market because they take such a big
percentage of sales right so i want to
keep as much of that money as i possibly
can because i'm responsible for sending
that traffic there whereas it's worth it
sometimes to pay etsy or creative market
or a platform like it when you're not
sending the traffic when they're getting
the traffic for you
i hope that makes sense so in those type
of scenarios you may want to host on
your own site also if you already have a
site that you've paid good money for
that you've spent blood sweat and tears
building you might want to host your
digital products on your own site so
this could be woocommerce with wordpress
which is what i use this could be
shopify this could be squarespace all of
these website platforms have the ability
for you to sell digital products and
i'll actually just take you in my
woocommerce and show you how we set this
up so i have woocommerce set up with
wordpress so if you're using shopify or
squarespace
it's still very possible you can sell
digitally on both of those platforms i'm
just showing you woocommerce okay so
what i would do is i would head in here
add a new product and i would add the
product name i would add a description i
would fill out all the information i
need to fill out here right but down
here in the bottom again just like etsy
i have the ability to make it virtual
and downloadable so it is a virtual
product and it is downloadable so
here on my own site not only can i sell
virtual goods but i can make them
downloadable so that when someone
purchases they automatically get a
download link and i don't have to send
them an email with it later and i'm
going to talk more about the email thing
here in a minute because i feel like
that might have been confusing in some
of my other videos but i'll just click
virtual and downloadable it's a simple
product i'll put in all the information
just like i did on etsy how much it is
how many times someone can download it
and anything else i need to put in and
then right here once i have clicked
downloadable it will actually give me
the option to add a file and i would do
it exactly the same as i did in etsy so
all of these are different ways to sell
but they all work pretty similarly so
going back to the example of my digital
planner if i wanted to sell that here i
would again put everything in a folder i
wanted the customer to have zip it up
upload it here and then i would also
upload some instructions so that when
they went to download the thing that
they just bought they would have
instructions on how to use it and then
they would have the ingredients let's
say that i want to sell click up
templates here on my website now in
order for me to sell and share a click
up template i i have to share a link so
just like in my like create a digital
product with me where i created a notion
template click up is the same way so if
i want to create a click up template the
only way for me to deliver that to
someone is by sharing a link with them
where they can then use that template
and copy it the same thing goes with
like a google doc or canva template you
have to share a link and so if you're
looking at this and you're like well
wait how would i do that because it's
not a file you have a couple different
options
so if you're sharing something that
needs a link again a canva template is a
great example you really need to share a
link for them to make a copy same thing
with a google doc same thing with a
click up template or notion you can
still deliver it downloadably on
something like etsy or on your own site
like i just showed you
but the thing you would upload
in that instance would be a pdf
that has the link in it so if i was
going to sell the notion template that
you all saw me create the other day i
would grab the link i would have the
link to share it and to allow people to
copy it right
and i would create a pdf with just
instructions and you know a welcome from
me so like hi thanks for buying this
thing on page two are instructions on
how to install it blah blah and within
those instructions i would have the link
to the thing that they had purchased so
that's one way to deliver something like
that where it's not necessarily
downloadable but you want to deliver it
in that way you can absolutely do it
that way the other way and i'll just
show you here on my woocommerce site is
if i did not want this to be
downloadable i can still sell a virtual
good okay so i can sell a virtual good
here on my site without it being
downloadable right so what would happen
in that instance is it would be virtual
i would still set the price i would
still do everything like normal except i
wouldn't have a file to upload so then
what i would do is i would make sure
that this product was hooked to my
convertkit account which is my email
marketing system you don't have to have
convertkit but you definitely need to
have an email marketing system and i
have a ton of videos on my channel about
that but i would hook this product to my
convertkit in some way so here on
woocommerce literally on the product
page it asks me if i want to add it to a
certain area in convertkit
so what i would do then is i would set
up an automation and convert kit which
is my email marketing system again right
i would set up an automation there where
when they got added to a form or when
they got added to a tag an automation
would fire that automation would send
them an email and deliver the thing that
they just paid for here in the virtual
store
i would not have a downloadable thing i
would just have it be a virtual checkout
and then i would add them to the
appropriate form and tag in convertkit
and then convertkit would deliver it via
email now this is just personal
preference on what you would want to do
especially with something where you
needed a link to sell it or to share it
but know that people might get confused
if they check out for something and
they're not delivered that something
right away and you may get a ton of
customer service emails so if you're
gonna do it this way i would make sure
the thank you page for this item or the
thank you page in general on your store
or some kind of message that popped up
after the purchase said something to the
effect of the thing you just purchased
will be delivered to your inbox so that
you're not getting inundated by customer
service request because people are going
to be confused now i have two even
simpler ways to deliver digital goods
that i want to tell you about and one
that takes the process even further okay
but before i do that i need to tell you
about today's sponsor any task because
they could either help you create these
digital products or set up a place to
sell them i told you it was like the
perfect sponsor for this video any task
is a freelancer platform with services
starting at a dollar and over 15 000
professional freelancers with 24 7
support and 100 payment protection with
any task protection you could literally
go to any task and have someone who's
well versed in canva or photoshop or
indesign or whatever program you need
them to be well-versed in and give them
the criteria for the digital product
you're trying to create and have them
create this digital product for you
the hang up with so many people with
digital products is that they don't have
the skills to create and sell it and any
task is a great way to kind of bypass
that and get someone else to help you
create these products or help you create
your store or set up things i mean if i
just go to any task and type in
woocommerce there are so many options
where for a hundred dollars or less you
can get someone who already knows how to
use woocommerce to set all of this up
for you so that your store looks like
mine just did when you're ready to go in
and set up your digital products they
also have tons of graphic designers that
can help you create your social media
graphics do your photo editing and they
even have an entire section on their
website dedicated to freelancers who
specialize in nfts and digital art so if
that's the direction you want to go with
your digital products you are set any
task can be a really great way to find
somebody to help you do all of this so
many of you have been really interested
in this digital product idea but i also
see the stress of having to create it
and having to set up the shop and when
you can literally log into a site and
get someone to set up your woocommerce
store for you for a hundred bucks i'd
say it's a good deal and i think one of
the coolest things is that any task has
set out to help sellers or freelancers
who don't have access to traditional
financial means like bank accounts so
you're not only getting help for the
thing you're trying to get help for
you're also probably changing someone's
life and that's just
magically amazing okay to check it out
all you have to do is go to hey
jessica.com forward slash any task or
hit up the link in my description below
and make something great for as little
as a dollar
okay so i promised you two really easy
ways to sell digital products and a like
kind of extra way
and all of that is coming now
you can sell your digital products on
etsy and creative market but they're
going to take a cut you can go on
woocommerce or shopify or squarespace
but you actually have to have those
already set up and if you're really
wanting to avoid having to set up a
website or trying to give a percentage
of your sales to a platform honestly i
mean in its most basic form all you have
to have is a paypal button that when
someone checks out with it is linked to
your email marketing system and you can
deliver it just like i said a minute ago
so obviously you would need somewhere
for that paypal button to live but you
could use something like leadpages or
even just like a google doc if you
wanted to for that paypal button to live
but if you wanted to set it up that way
you would just go into paypal create a
product within paypal in your seller
account and when someone clicks that
link it will charge them the appropriate
amount and then you could use a system
like zapier which is basically a
software that links two things together
two softwares that don't natively link
together use zapier to say every time
someone clicks this paypal button i want
them added to this form or tag in my
email marketing system and that former
tag
will have an automation set up and will
deliver it for you now
is that the most efficient way to do it
absolutely not is it the most
professional looking way to do it
absolutely not but is it an option a
hundred percent now if you want to go
somewhere in the middle of that and
having your own website i would highly
recommend a service called send owl so
like send like send a letter in the mail
owl as in the bird that can turn its
head all the way around okay
cindell is a platform that's literally
made for delivering digital downloads so
you can go in and set up a send out
account and set up your product
and have a page for your product and
have someone be able to
check out and download it right there
now again there are fees associated with
that but honestly it's the next best
thing to having your own website for
this to go through and then the last
option i want to tell you about is
probably the most complicated but can
also open up a ton of doors for
additional income
and that is going to be a system like
thrive cart now there are other systems
besides thrive cart on the market that
do a very similar thing but i love
thrive cart so i can really only speak
from their perspective and what i would
do here thrivecart is essentially just a
checkout system it's just a you know a
cart system if you will but it allows
you the ability to add order bumps and
upsells to any products that you put on
it so let's say i wanted to sell a click
up template but i didn't just want to
sell a click up template i wanted them
to check out for the click up template
and then have the option to add 10 more
click up templates to their cart for a
discounted rate because that's going to
increase the value of each sale right
there are ways to do that if you're
hosting on your own website but they're
pretty convoluted and can get a little
messy but through something like thrive
cart i could just set it up to where you
know this is the product they're
purchasing
i can tell thrive cart that when once
they purchase i want them added to a tag
or a form and convert kit so the product
could be delivered that way
and then i can also set up the thrive
cart checkout to where they have the
ability to add things on checkout
that could drastically increase your
customer value per checkout and could
really help you make more sales
but thrivecart definitely has a yearly
or monthly fee and they don't
necessarily have a digital download
option built in but they do have a lot
of options that will again let you send
the customer to your email list and have
them deliver it that way or they also
have the option to send them to a url so
maybe you have a url already developed
to send any customers to that will give
them instructions on how to download or
whatever and you could even host these
digital products in something like
teachable or thinkific or member vault
or
something of that nature which are all
initially built for courses but could
house digital products
so in that scenario something like
thrivecart could automatically add that
person to those platforms and then they
log in to get access so like i said it's
a little bit more complicated but it
could really increase your revenue and
could really increase your ability to
make more money with each digital
product sale okay so that was a lot of
options i know it was but i've listed
everything i talked about below in the
descriptions so if you need to find etsy
or creative market or send owl or
whatever it's all linked below in the
description and hopefully this gave you
a good idea of how you can sell these
digital products how you can actually
put them in a store somewhere and have
someone give you money in exchange for a
digital good because trust me based on
the comments that is the biggest
question and i hope that this answered
it now if you watched my last video you
may remember that i said my next video
would be me trying to learn notion
but honestly after seeing all the
comments on my digital product videos i
felt like i needed to give this to you
guys first so stay tuned because i will
be learning notions soon but also i have
a few other things i want to tell you
about digital products i got a comment
today actually on my last video and it
was a super super nice comment not like
mean at all but i think it really
addresses something that a lot of people
have a question about and to kind of get
the gist of it this person said
something to the effect of i do not
understand why anyone would buy a pdf
checklist or even a simple template it
may just be me but i would like to see a
real world example not what could be
done but what has been done an actual
product that sold and for how much it
was sold i have the skills to make this
type of product i just don't see the
need for them and the potential of a
hundred dollars per day per product and
i have no brush y'all i have receipts i
can tell you how much i've made for my
digital products and i can show you how
those have been super lucrative for me
throughout the years so this is not
something i am like fluffing up as a way
to make money that nobody can actually
do so stay tuned for a video where i
address that comment and i show you
behind the scenes of what i have
actually made from certain digital
products in my career and how it truly
has made me a hundred dollars a day or
more actually most of them made me way
more than that and my plans going
forward with incorporating even more
digital products into my business so if
that's you too if you're like this this
is impossible jessica i promise it's not
and i'm going to show you i'm going to
show you more if you have other
questions about digital products hit me
up in the comments below and thank you
again to today's sponsor any task if you
want to check them out and get started
getting help doing this kind of stuff
for like a buck make sure you check them
out below in the description or go to
heyjessica.com forward slash any task
and until next time bye y'all
