Hello and welcome to design and business
conversations for creatives I'm Cheyney and today, I am here to share with you my
Society6 upload process. Including how I tag and also
how to create a collection. I've been uploading to Society6 now for over a
year. A couple of months ago I created a video
where I exposed my Society6 income. Since then, I think I have doubled my
sales. Society6 is the print on demand website
that I'm on that I do the best on. I'm also on Redbubble and
Teepublic however Society6 is continuously the one
that I do well on, so I thought I would share with
you (if you're new to Society6) my uploading
process and hopefully it can help you have some
success on this platform. Also please ask me any questions in the
comments below. I am happy to answer however I can.
I'm not an expert, I'm merely sharing my experience.
I also share my Society6 artwork on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and more
recently, Twitter. Not all of my sales on Society6 are
brought to me from Society6 so please keep that in mind if you are creating
for society6, you need to do the work to
market your store and get yourself known. I have linked some
timestamps in the comments below segmenting the video so if you want to
get to a certain part you can just click those below and get right there and not
have to listen to the rest. If you like this video, please give it a
thumbs up, subscribe, hit the notifications bell, check out my other
print on demand videos, and yeah. I hope you enjoy. I'm
just going to show you my uploading process on Society6. Before we
dive straight into it, I just want to note that there's a really easy way for
you to find keywords that work. Keywords are really important to put
with your artwork to ensure that Society6 can
find your artwork and anyone that comes onto the platform
can type into the search bar up here and find exactly what they
are looking for and hopefully your artwork, if keyworded correctly, will show
up. Today I'm going to upload a striped
pattern that I have made specifically with my cousin in mind who has asked me
for a mask that's masculine, and rather plain
and a little bit different to what I have
already on Society6. This was a good opportunity to show you exactly how I do
that. I'm going to click into the search bar
here and just look at what is under striped.
If you type in the keyword before you create something,
do a little bit of research of what what is already out there. There's a whole
bunch of options here. I like that one!
This one's doing very well, uh, navy blue minimal. You can tell by the
number of likes. Let's just see what the keywords are in
this one here. So I can go down all the way down, down,
down, down, down, and whoever uploaded this design here,
uh, you can see the keywords that they have used here.
So, graphic design, pattern, illustration, abstract, drawing, vintage, retro,
watercolor, classic, blue, colour, blue, navy, solid.
Right. I'm just going to look at a couple more just to get some good ideas of what
I might want to put in my keyword section. When I come to do
that.
Colourful, minimal, stripe, striped, dark,
stripes.
This one keeps popping up so I'll take a look at that one.
Graphic design, digital pattern, abstract, Scandi, minimal, geometric.
Okay cool. Having a look at these just gives me a little bit of an idea of
what keywords I might use when i'm uploading my artwork. So let's jump
straight in. I'm going to use the new artist studio
rather than the old artist studio. I do like the old artist studio a
little bit better however I find that the new artist studio is
really good for my pattern design uploads because I don't have to do a
whole lot of fussing about. I go: Add new artwork. I have my artwork
prepared on my desktop here. Blue striped pattern.
You'll notice that I've titled the pattern in here. I'm still
unsure yet how much titling that relates to SEO and being found on
Society6 but I think it's a really good habit to get into. Anyway, so rather than
naming this: "Pattern 1" actually put some of the
keywords into, into the name.
Enter artwork title. So here I'm going to want to place as many keywords as I can
that will make my design be found by someone who is interested in this kind
of artwork. I'm going to put Navy Blue Stripe
Pattern Design.
I might make that Contemporary.
Contemporary Navy Blue Stripe Pattern Design. So hopefully those are some
good keywords. Continue. Uh, you have to represent that
you own the artwork. Do not upload other
people's artwork. This here I created just before I jumped
on to do this. I created it in Adobe Illustrator, it's 100% mine.
So I represent that it's mine. Does this artwork contain mature content?
If you have any swear words or any graphic material
you will need to click yes, but this is very safe, so click no.
Continue. And now it just gets uploaded onto all the products that are available
and i'm going to have to go through and toggle these all on or whatever I want
to have this pattern on. This is where I
want to focus on. You need to categorize and I would deem this to be graphic
design so you need to choose the correct category for your artwork
and then it comes up with some suggested tags and usually I'll put in a
couple of those so it is digital, and it is a pattern. These don't apply so
I'm just going to go in and and remember some of those tags that
other people used and that I've already put into my title. So, contemporary,
stripe, striped, stripes, striped, navy, blue,
navy blue. I'm gonna put in masculine - Generally I don't like to classify
things by gender, however, I do think it is something that people
will type in. My cousin, he looked at my designs and he said "oh
do you have anything more masculine?" That's what encourages that keyword.
Uh, I would say it is minimal, minimalistic, what else was there? There was dark lines,
geometric, I'm going to put on surface print, so that is another word for
pattern design. Abstract. You get to put on 20 keywords. We're at
17, so we need three more. If I were a
consumer what would I be searching if I wanted to land on this kind of
pattern? Simple, clean, and modern. So then you have the title.
You're going to want to, have the words that are in your title,
you'll want to have those in your tags but you'll also want to have them in
your description box. So I just copy and paste.
So apple+c, I'm on a mac, and apple+v. Contemporary navy blue stripe pattern
design and then i just put a little bit more about the artwork
a little bit more of a story and also this is an opportunity to put in a
couple more keywords but also tell your story.
Custom art created for my cousin who was
looking at my Society6 for a mask and requested
a more masculine design. Created in Auckland, New Zealand
by Design by Cheyney. So this here, you don't want to just
repeat what you've done up here but rather tell a little bit of a story.
I don't change my markup, some people do that is something that
you can do if you want to you just click into there.
Save the details. Click into there and then you have the
option to mark up any of the wall art. I can't remember if I went through and
changed this or if that's just the standard one. I think it's the
standard one. Yes. I uploaded this at a really large
size so if we go into the information. It is huge and I
uploaded it at 200dpi. Uh, you can have a smaller artboard
and a higher dpi, like 300. This is just the rhythm that I've fallen into and it
works for me so I know that it's gonna go over all
the products without a problem and I want to
enable it on all the products. So I simply just go and
click on all the products. You'll see that sometimes they toggle off
but just click them once and be patient because they do toggle back on.
It took me a while to get my head around that because I'd click it and then be
like 'ah'! But you can see they they go back and
forth on ya! So just click them once and leave them
and then I go back through and I just double check.
I'll fast forward through this process a little bit so it isn't so painful.
You don't have to watch me toggle on every product. Since i've created a
pattern and i've done this for a long time, I already know that this is going
to work over all the products without any adjustments.
I'll just show you hypothetically what you need to do if you do want to make
adjustments. If you want to make it bigger or smaller,
you just click into edit,
wait until it loads, it can take a while.
And then scale it up or down here, and then
just make sure you click 'centred' because sometimes it can move
and you want to make sure that everything is within this gray square
here. So centre it like, and that like that. So this
is, this is basically what we refer to as your bleed.
So this is where the actual artwork will sit on the cushion but it bleeds over
the edge to allow Society6 manufacturers to create seams
and make sure that there isn't any white gaps like that,
you know up there. Centre it and then save, and enable. But in this
case I was happy with how it was, so I'm just going to cancel.
And then once you've gone through and you've made all your adjustments, what I
do is, I just go one last scan through everything and
check that it's actually, they're all toggled on. I know what these
look like just because i'm so familiar with the platform and i've
uploaded over 100 designs now, so I know that these are going to be fine but
you can just wait, i'm just being a little bit impatient.
So go all the way down, make sure they're all toggled on, so i'm just scanning,
checking those are all green. Yep! And then you need to represent that the
title, tags, and description of my artwork do not include the names, titles, brands
trademarks, or copyrighted material that belong to any other person/company/
organization. So publish artwork.
And that is now published. It will actually take a while to
show up but you can find it earlier if you would like.
Go into old artist studio
and you'll see it here. And my cousin wanted a mask and i'm,
I don't really want to wait for it to upload and I want to send him the link
now. So I can go into 'view enabled products' down here.
Then scroll across to the mask
and then I can click this little eye which will take me to a new,
a new browser. And then this here is the affiliate link so since I created this
and i'm sending somebody to buy this. I can copy
that and send it to him, and it's already for him to purchase.
Another thing you can consider in Society6 is creating collections.
Say I wanted to make it really easy for my cousin to find
the most masculine masks out of 128 designs,
I could go to the collections tab here, and create a new collection
called "Masculine Face Masks". Put in the description here,
and put: "Minimal face masks for those who
are looking for something practical, stylish,
and simple. Create collection. So then you need to go into your shop,
I would go down and click "Apparel & Bags",
"Face Masks" and then I can go through and click into it and "Add to collection". So I
would say that's a "Masculine Face Mask". Add new collection. Again, I will
reiterate, I don't really like gendered or gender specific,
however it has been asked from me, so this is a good place that I can send
my cousin. I think this one, this one here would work.
And you can tell that it has gone into that by that little
icon they're changing so it's changed from green to red
and that means that that is in the collection.
You can also "Add a new collection" if you wanted to.
So then if I go down I think this one is. I'm just basically tailoring
all these to his needs, so not only will I send him the stripe
design that i just created, but i'll also send him a link to this so he can have a
browse and it just makes it really easy for him he doesn't have to weed through
all my designs and figure out what is going to work for him.
This one here is a Kiwi one, really masculine colors.
This one here is a coffee design, you can't really see it but it's,
he likes coffee, so I'll put that in there. And remember I'll need to put that
one that I just uploaded in there and it won't be
available on my store yet because it can take
15 to 30 minutes to upload. So again,
if I just want to go to manage my posts, and I'll show you how to get to it in
the new artist studio. Very similar to what I showed you
before in the old artist studio.
Is: Down here I can put "View and edit products".
Down here I can scroll across to "Face Mask".
Click there and then "Add to collection". "Masculine Face Masks".
So there you have it. And now I go into "My Collections"
all of those will be in one place. So I can just copy and paste the link
and send it to him. Share this collection, get the curator
link, copy link, and then post it to him. And that's how I upload and create a
collection. Thank you for watching. If you like this
