How to Sell Your Art Prints Online
Hi, it’s Noni from Printful!
Whether you're interested in creating art prints of your original artwork or taking
the extra step to learn how to put your art on apparel, using print-on-demand services
is a way for you to generate passive income with no inventory needed.
How it works
A print-on-demand service will print your custom artwork - be that a digital illustration,
a high-quality photo, or a scanned version of a physical drawing or painting - and ship
it directly to your customer.
The prints are made only as orders come in, and only in the quantity the order asks for.
This way, you can start your own brand online without having to buy large quantities of
products or investing in production equipment and staff when you get started.
So you don’t have to pay for your products upfront, stock them yourself, or manage their
shipping - you can run your business from the comfort of your home!
The whole process goes like this - you sign up to a print-on-demand service and connect
it to your ecommerce store - it can be a website you’ve created or an account on a marketplace
you’ve chosen to sell on.
Then you choose the products you want to sell from the catalog of your print-on-demand service,
create and upload your art, set your profit margins, and wait for the orders to roll in.
Your print-on-demand service takes care of printing, packaging, and shipping out your
products to your customers.
For example, let’s imagine a customer stumbling upon your store, let’s call him Gary.
Gary finds an illustration he likes and buys it from your store.
Because your store is synced with Printful, Gary's order is automatically placed with
us, and we charge you for fulfillment as soon as the order is confirmed.
Then we prepare, pack, and ship it.
So, if Gary buys a 16x20 inch thick matte poster for $35, Printful’s price for the
fulfillment is $12.
So from the $35 Gary paid for the poster, you get a $23 profit.
Wall art
Printful offers wall art in a variety of sizes, so you can choose the option that suits your
designs best.
You can use both digital and scanned illustrations and paintings for your prints, as well as
high-quality photos, just remember they have to be in PNG or JPEG format and have at least
150 DPI.
To ensure the best possible outcome, use full-bleed images with graphics that span across the
entire dimension of the document.
You should also create files in sRGB color profile.
For posters, we use top-notch printing equipment and durable quality materials to create the
best giclée prints and we offer both framed and regular posters for your store.
We do advise against using borders in your designs - borders can appear uneven if the
print is shifted during the cutting process.
Canvas prints can bring the whole room to life.
Using lifestyle mockups from our mockup generator can help you imagine how your custom canvas
prints might look in real life, so you can finetune your designs.
With canvas prints, we advise against placing important graphics or text very close to the
edges of your designs.
These details can appear uneven when the canvas is being stretched over the frame.
We also can't guarantee exact placement since the canvas is manually stretched over the
frame.
When designing the back print, take note that a 3.2 inch x 1 inch or (8.1 x 2.5 cm) barcode
is printed on the back of each canvas, 4.5 inch or (11.4 cm) from the bottom.
You can find all the information on our print guidelines for wall art in the Printful Product

Example Let's say you have a digital artwork that
you think would look amazing as a poster and want to sell it in your store.
Go to your Printful account, click on “Stores”, and choose one of the stores you have already
connected to your Printful account.
Then click “Add product” and choose a poster from the list of products here.
Here you can choose the orientation of the poster as well as the sizes you want to offer
in your store.
Now you can upload my design by clicking here.
You can adjust the placement here.
Remember to adjust the placement for each of the sizes you chose in the previous step,
and pay attention to the print quality information over here.
You can also choose a background color for your poster if you want, create a pattern
out of your design, add text, and much more.
When you're done, click on “Proceed to mockups”.
Here you can choose those lifestyle mockups of your poster in different environments that
I mentioned before, and also choose the mockup file format.
When you're done, click “Proceed to details”, add a description for your poster, and then
proceed to “Pricing”.
Here you can decide on your profit and retail price.
You can see Printful’s fulfillment price here and then set up your profit here.
Once you set the profit, the retail price will adjust automatically.
When that's done, you can hit Submit to store and that's it!
Your poster will be available for everyone to purchase!
Once you make a sale, Printful will take care of it automatically.
Some of the details in this process might differ, depending on the ecommerce platform
or marketplace you use for your store, however, we have clear guidelines and video tutorials
