Hey guys, it's Alex Tooby here from alextooby.com and today we're going to talk about what we
always talk about Instagram, but more specifically I want to talk about shoppable Instagram feeds.
So you may have heard of this or maybe you haven't, but basically Instagram is now allowing
us to tag products in our Instagram posts where our users can actually click on them
and go straight to our website to buy.
So obviously this is a great addition as it's going to really cut down that gap between
someone being a visitor or a follower and turning them into a customer.
So I'm loving this feature.
I think it's great.
Uh, specifically if you sell products, um, unfortunately you cannot tag a service at
this time.
Um, so this is strictly for physical goods, but if you do sell a physical good, this is
something that you certainly want to have implemented on your account.
So today I'm going to basically teach you how to do that.
So it's not too hard to set up, but there are a couple of hoops that we need to jump
through.
So before we get going, some things that you need to know is that if you are outside of
the United States, Canada, Brazil, I'm looking at my notes, United Kingdom, Germany, France,
Italy, Spain or Australia.
This will not be available to you at this time, but if you are in those countries then
we can go ahead and move forward.
So the next thing you need to have is a business profile on Instagram.
If you don't have that already, you can easily just go to your profile, hit the settings
cog, and then scroll down until you see switch to business profile.
The next thing you must have is a Facebook page and the very last thing you need to have
is your Instagram app needs to be fully updated.
Okay?
So you might need to go into your app manager on your phone and then just update it.
If you don't have the most recent version running, then you may not have this feature.
So if you have all of those things sorted out, now we can really get started with the
tutorial.
All right, so the first thing that we're going to do is set up a shop on our Facebook page.
Once you've opened a Facebook shop, we can add our products to it and then later when
we link our Facebook page to our Instagram account, it can pull the products from there.
So what you need to do is jump onto your Facebook account and then you need to go to the page
that you want to work with.
So I'm going to go to my Men and Coffee page.
I already have products set up here, so this should be easy to follow.
So the first thing you want to do is check out the left sidebar and see if you see a
shop tab.
Some pages, depending on which niche you're in or some of the options that you chose when
you created your Facebook originally.
May just set you up with a shop tab already.
So if you already have that, then you're ahead of the curve.
If not, where I have this shop now button, you're going to see add a button or something
else.
So if you don't already have a shop tab on the left hand side, you want to click this
button, then you want to scroll down until you see this shop with you or make a donation.
Click that and then select shop.
Then you're going to say next, and then you want to choose shop on your page.
From there, everything should be configured and only have to do is press finish.
Now you'll be able to see the shop tab on the left hand side if you didn't see it before.
From there, you want to go ahead and select the shop tab
and as you can see, I already have products here, but what you will see is a popup that
comes up and it says create a shop in three easy steps.
So just click the setup shop button and follow the instructions.
Eventually you'll see a select checkout method where you want to choose to either let your
customer checkout on Facebook or let them check out on your website.
Ideally, if you have an eCommerce platform set up or the ability to take payments to
your website, you wanna choose checkout on your website.
If you don't have that, then choose checkout on Facebook and basically your customers can
buy straight from Facebook.
Now at this time, that may be limited to USA only, but I'm not entirely sure, so give it
a shot.
Once you have that all set up, you're basically ready to add products, so you're going to
go ahead and click the add product button and then you can either manually enter your
products so you can add the photo, the description, the price, et cetera, and go that way.
If you only have a few, this might be easy.
If you already have a lot or you already have all of your products set up on say, Shopify
or woo commerce, all you need to do is do a quick Google search for how to integrate
that shopping platform with your Facebook shop.
There's super easy step-by-step tutorials that you can follow and basically it's going
to migrate all of your products automatically.
So all of a sudden your Facebook shop will have all of the products that you already
have listed on your website.
So at that point it's going to look like this where I have a variety of different products.
I actually use woo commerce.
So all I did was download a plugin and that migrated my products for me.
So it was super easy.
So from here, the next thing we need to do is integrate our Facebook page with our Instagram
account.
So you can do this from your Facebook page simply by going to the settings button and
then looking for Instagram on the left hand side.
Simply click that and then it'll ask you to log into your account.
Whoa.
All right, cameo by my cat.
This is Boyjtie.
Boytjie means little boy and Afrikaans for anyone from Africa or surrounding areas.
And he is a sweet little nugget, but is one of those cats that knows when you're working
a and has to come and bother you.
So I'm just going to leave him there if you guys don't mind.
So, um, as I was saying, you can go to the Instagram tab on the left hand side and then
log into your Instagram account.
From there.
Now your Facebook page is connected to your Instagram and the next steps we need to do
is on Instagram itself.
All right, so now we have connected our page to our Instagram via Facebook.
But if you wanted to, you can also do it from Instagram.
So all you have to do is go to your profile, go to the settings cog, and then scroll down
until you find linked accounts.
So I'll go ahead and click that, then click Facebook and then you'll be able to choose
which page you want to connect your Facebook to.
Okay, so really easy.
So at this point you have a Facebook shop that has all of your products in it and we
have connected that Facebook page with our Instagram account.
So the next thing we need to do is basically wait to be approved by Instagram.
So the product tagging feature is on a per account basis.
They're going to go ahead and look at your account.
They're going to look at the products that you're trying to sell and then decide if you're
approved or not.
So for example, say that you were just trying to sell services.
Instagram does not allow you to tag services.
They only allow you to tag physical products.
So you might not get approved for that reason, but they do state that it should take no longer
than a few days to be approved.
So just be patient and keep checking your Instagram account because you will see a notification
that says that you've been approved.
And to get started with product tagging.
So you're going to go ahead and click that.
When that happens, what that's going to do is take you to the shopping tab so you can
also access it by going to your settings cog.
Again, I'm going to scroll down to this business settings section and choose shopping.
So from here, all it really needs you to do is confirm which shop on Facebook you want
to connect to your Instagram.
So I've already connected my @menandcoffee woocommerce integration.
Uh, it pulls the woo commerce name because I used a plugin to migrate all my products.
And that's just how it looks.
It doesn't really matter.
Um, there it is.
It says I have 65 products, which actually only have about six products, but with all
the variations and t-shirts size and color, it equals up to 65.
So now my Facebook shop and all of my products are sinked with my account and I can begin
tagging them on Instagram.
So now that we have that, let's finally get to what we wanted to do from the very beginning,
which is tagged products in our posts.
So what we're going to do is select the plus button to upload a new photo.
I'm just going to select this random photo here.
I'm going to click next.
Obviously you're going to want to choose a photo that has your products in it.
This particular photo doesn't have any of my products, but I'm just going to use it
for an example sake.
So anyway, you want to go and use your filters or edit your photo, whatever you want to do,
click next.
And then you're going to want to write in your caption, add your geolocation.
And basically when we're at the point of being ready to share it, we're going to go ahead
and select the tag products button.
So from there it's going to open up the image again.
And basically it's the same as when you go to tag a user, you're going to tap on the
photo exactly where you want the product to show up.
So obviously if I was selling this coffee mug or this sweater, I would tap directly
on that.
So I'm going to tap his sweater, which is then going to open up my product catalog.
So it's showing me all of the sizes.
So that's why there's duplicates here.
But basically I would just go ahead and choose this shirt.
Um, if I tap and hold, I can drag it around.
So i wanna place that exactly where the product is, if you tap it again, you can delete it
if you don't want it anymore.
And if I tap somewhere else, I can add another product.
So I'll add this mug.
Um, and the price is reflected as it is on your website.
So for me, I currently have the smug on sale, which is why it's showing the crossed out
$20, and instead it's $15.99 so you can tag up to five products per photo.
Um, so go ahead and do that.
Again, you want to make sure that you're only tagging products that are actually in the
photo.
So if you don't have five then don't tag five.
Okay, so press done and then you'll see right away that the tag people option is now grayed
out.
So for whatever reason, Instagram only allows you to do one or the other.
You can't tag people and also tag products.
So before you go, you can click the preview tag products button and that's going to show
us what the image is going to look like.
So we can see that small little shopping bag in the left hand corner.
And then when we tap the screen, we can see our products.
So this is exactly what it's gonna look like when your audience views your posts.
So if you like it, simply press back.
And then you're going to press share and then your post will be live and you'll have your
products tagged directly in your post.
So obviously that's awesome.
Um, I want to quickly go ahead and show you what some accounts look like when they do
this and some of the features that come along with it.
So I'm just gonna search up urban Outfitters and you can see right away that these top
few photos all have the shopping bag in the top right hand corner.
So that means that they're shoppable posts.
So if I go ahead and click on that first one and then tap the screen, we can see that this
mug is for sale for $12.
So at this point, if I click that price tag, it's going to show a description of the product
as well as more products from this particular account.
So from here I can click the view on website button, which is going to take me to urban
outfitters.com where I can go ahead and buy this product.
So as you can see, having products tagged in your photos is a really quick way to get
your viewer or your follower over to your website and potentially purchasing your products.
Without product tagging, you have to maybe put a call to action in your caption and say,
go click the link in my bio and you know, navigate yourself to that product and buy
it.
So this is really streamlining things and it a lot easier, which means you're more likely
to make more sales.
So that's how you add product tags to your photos.
And then one last thing is that when you go to an account that has products tagged in
their photos, they're also going to have the shop tab in their profile.
So you can quickly select that.
And then it's only going to show you posts that have products tagged in them.
So again, this is great for someone who lands on your feed and is ready and eager to purchase
from you.
So that's it guys.
That's how you enable product tagging on your Instagram account and create a shoppable Instagram
feed.
Now before we go, I just want to make sure that you understand that just because you
tag products in your photo does not mean that you're going to make sales.
It is not a guaranteed tactic.
It is really important that you do more than that.
Kay?
You need to be posting quality content.
You need to be posting pictures that are eye-catching and really help show off your product or show
off your expertise.
You want to be writing captions that are engaging and provide value in some way or another,
and you want to be smart.
Use call to actions, engage with your audience, leave likes, follow other people.
You need to be proactive on Instagram, okay?
If you want anyone to come to your feet, check out your stuff, maybe click those product
tags and buy from you.
You need to also be putting that out into Instagram.
Okay?
So simply tagging products on Instagram is amazing.
It's really great.
It's going to for sure help a lot of businesses make more sales, but it doesn't mean you're
guaranteed to make sales, so make sure you're doing all of the things you need to have.
